Yes, it was a scene, but maybe not what you think

DULUTH, Ga. Part-time Nashvillian Kid Rock caused another scene at a Waffle House this time, for charity.

The entertainer came to sign autographs for hundreds of fans during a fundraiser at the suburban Atlanta eatery. The event came just a week after Kid Rock, whose real name is Robert James Ritchie, pleaded not guilty to a charge of battery from a fight last fall at another Waffle House.

Waffle House spokeswoman Kelly Thrasher said the Atlanta-based company wanted to "take a negative situation and turn it into a positive situation."

Proceeds were to go to Nicholas House, a homeless shelter for families in DeKalb County, where the 37-year-old entertainer was arrested last October following a fight with a customer. Ritchie was scheduled to serve food to Waffle House customers Tuesday but changed plans when he realized he would only have time to sign autographs before his concert scheduled for later in the evening at nearby Gwinnett Arena.

Ritchie said he wanted to make up for the fight.

"The whole situation before was kind of silly," he said as he signed autographs for fans. "We just thought after that unfortunate incident we'd try to do something silly but something more positive."

With posters, CDs, guitars and hats in hand, the line of Kid Rock fans snaked around the building for hours waiting for an autograph and photo with the hick-hop star.

Some of the fans drove hundreds of miles to see him.

First in line: Ashley Miles, 21, from Morgantown, W. Va., and her mother, Terri Miles, from Maryland. They arrived at 8:30 p.m. Monday, set up chairs and waited all night.

"I love him; he is gorgeous," the daughter said.

Next in line: Alisha Mullen and husband Wes Mullen, who arrived at 3:30 a.m. from Point Pleasant, W. Va. They brought sons Carson Taylor, 7, and Brady Taylor, 10.

When asked what he would say to Kid Rock, Carson smiled and said, "I'm a cowboy, baby," mimicking Ritchie's hit song.

Police say Ritchie's tour bus had stopped at another area Waffle House on Oct. 21 after a performance in downtown Atlanta; an exchange of words with a customer escalated into a fight that spilled from the restaurant out into the parking lot.

Officers took Ritchie and five members of his entourage into custody about a mile down the road after the group left the Waffle House.

It's not Ritchie's first public altercation. About a month before the Waffle House incident, he was cited in a police report for misdemeanor battery after he was accused of slapping and punching Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee at the MTV Video Music Awards in Las Vegas. (Both musicians are ex-husbands of Pamela Anderson, who was a presenter at the show.) Charges were never filed in the case.

KR, You amaze me and I am not alone! Your true fans support you because your true fans know that while you are the American bad ass, your American heart is huge. Regardless of the circumstances, continue to stand up for what you feel is real. Some things are simply not negotiable! Remember, when theyre riding your ass, youre giving someone else a break! Keep on being real - it is working for you! With love from one so called rebel to another! (Im a displaced New Yorker trying to live in the Southsometimes they just dont understand!) By the way- Charleston, S.C., loved you. Rumor has it that you were so fan friendly while you were here. Ive heard several stories and have one to tell. You played basketball with a young fan then took your shirt off, signed it, and gave it to him. How sweet is that!!! You and Marlon signed our shirts and took pictures. We had so much fun laughing about our experience that we purchased front row tickets to see you in Savannah last Saturday. In Savannah, you winked at me. I winked back! We have had such a blast seeing you that we are waiting for Charlotte, NC to go on sale. Hopefully, I can get front row again and wink at you first this time! Thanks for showing us such a good time and rockin the house the way you do along with Rev Run!!! You two are mind-blowing together. You were incredible in Savannah when you conducted the band on queue! That was awesome! I have never had so much fun at a concert. How about showing some love with some after show passes? It cant get any better than that!

How can you not love this guy. Whether it's being among the first and most frequent visitors to Iraq to entertain troops, doing charitable work, or throwin' down damn good music, through all the craziness of celebrity, this is a man who doesn't appear to have forgotten where he came from. Count me as a fan.

Great! I enjoyed your appearance on the Ellen show. You impressed me with the ability to laugh at the situation over the Waffle House scuffle. What ever happened to the old school way of duking it out, shaking hands and parting ways? It's the stupid legal bullshit that makes those idiots see $$$$ when they "provoke" a fight with someone famous. And by the way, where's the damn paparazzi when you need video proof? Well, cudos to you for turning the whole incident into something positive. I love your new CD. AMEN is my favorite song. I get goosebumps every time I hear it. I was lucky to get to see you a few years back at the Riverbend Festival in Chattanooga. As a native to the area we have attended the festival since it's start. Your's was one of the best shows in it's history. Thanks for the music. Thanks for giving back. It's amazing how just a few hours out of your day can make a difference. Keep up the good work.

miss you since feb.9. Had so much to ask yet I had little time. was nice to hang with Cheli but I wanted to ask you about your life. Don't know much about your world so let me have another chance . Love the fundraiser for the homeless

Great way to turn things around!! The homeless and afflicted--A lot of people turn a blind eye. If you'd never been down that road, you wouldn't understand...Thank you, Bobby!!! ? One of the many reasons I love this man! Problem with the story...1 after reporting on the positive...the story was closed with reflection on the 'silly'. (What a shock--but ppl love the stupid b.s. for some reason. Does anybody live and let die anymore, I mean come on...everybody knows...it's ok.) And number 2..."Proceeds were to go to Nicholas House....where...entertainer was arrested...following a fight with a customer."--I thought all that happened at the Waffle House--and the Nicholas House was the...charity...yeah...okey doke...we got it now. Anywho. I'm sure he 'Rocked the House'. He stays connected with the fans and we love him!!! It's Race Weekend in Bristol, TN!! Rev. Run will be shooting! My baby brother just left yesterday for the Navy...way too many problems at home to count...I have been so very down...but i got you to look forward to. So, Sugar, Turn that Sh*t up- loud and proud! ??? Take me away... Looking forward to seein yuins Friday night!! ~?~ As always Bushels of Lovins, Jae
