"Be Realistic, Demand the Impossible" - spray painted on a local Michigan gas station wall back in the 70's reminds me to do my part in helping out everyday, in every way, in order for our world to experience peace & harmony. Husband says this response sounds like one he would have heard on SNL's "Deep Thoughts by Jack Handy" -LOL...

I care about so many things its hard to sum it up... I care most about my children! But as far as the world goes I care about families dealing with addiction. I grew up in the world of addiction and dealt with my own struggles. But bc of NA and the people in meetings I changed my way of life. I had my children outside the world of drugs but so many dont. I had to sit back and watch so many kids struggle.The issue of drug addiction does not only involve the individual, it is a family dilemma and one which requires a community response. Parents are forced to decide between getting treatment for their addiction and trying to raise their children. It's known that parenting is a challenging role which is made even worse when parental judgment is clouded by addiction. A child raised by parents with addictions is at risk of both emotional and physical trauma. The problem is how to provide care for vulnerable children. The treatment and recovery from addiction is a long and difficult road. The child welfare system recognizes the needs of parents to get treatment and supports parents who wish to improve themselves, but the main goal of the agency is the safety of children. So in result, it is difficult to return children to parents who have not fully completed treatment. We need a resource that would provide parents with supported care for their children while they receive treatment. THAT would be a huge benefit to families, children and the community. The current system does not meet the needs of families and leaves children in many vulnerable positions. Without treatment options it creates a situation which forces families and community agencies to make extremely difficult decisions which impact the lives of some very young and vulnerable children. Our children are the future!

I care about my family and friends especially those going through hard times including deaths in the family, employment issues, and those with family members over seas. Even if we're all smiling most people are going through something so it helps to show you care even to those who push you away- we have no clue what they're going through.
