Rock musician Kid Rock performed a free concert for servicemen and women at Fort Travis Air Base Friday night. The Grammy-nominated artist also met privately with a selected group of active and veteran Airforce personnel before the concert.

"We've been standing outside for an hour, but we still haven't figured out what we're going to say to him," said Staff Sgt. Nick Brand, standing in line with his brother, Ian, also an enlisted airman.

Media was invited to videotape the interaction with Kid Rock, but minutes before service personnel went in to meet him, Kid Rock's management denied media access, saying Kid Rock wanted to keep the exchange private.

"I thanked him for coming out here and showing us his support," said Sgt. Ian Brand.

Other servicemen had guitars signed by Kid Rock.

No photos were allowed, but what was taken by the musician's staff members.

The concert started at 8:30pm with Kid Rock performing his radio hits.

Travis concert was excellent! Even better than pulling security at the door for Kid Rock at the concert! Thanks for entertaining our Travis family ... and thanks for making my volunteer time a memory.

Here. I really don’t care if our soldiers are over ‘there’ for land found on a hill, country, freedom, religion, oil. In the end they are our people fighting for what some who we elect and to trust, and represent family sacrifice in. At all cost we ‘must’ support all of them in all form of obligation in. Media, will. Diminish found won freedom, found. In, as you know a song or guitar strum. Thank you…

I was at this concert at Travis Air Force Base and it was absolutely amazing!! A lot of entertainers would skimp on a free concert and use it as a publicity opportunity, but Kid Rock did the exact opposite. The concert was just as great (or better) as a concert one would pay to see and he did not use a minute of it as an oppotunity to promote himself. This is a man who truly appreciates the military and uses his actions to speak louder than words. Thank you.

Is it any wonder why KID ROCK kick the media's ass to the curb, because he gets it, you the media are nothing but a bunch of whiney ass bleeding heart liberals that only spin the topic to fit your needs and get ratings (that are poor anyway). He knows who either puts up or shuts up to protect this country and constitution and it isn't you the one's hiding behind it. THANK YOU KID ROCK, all anyone from the military would like is a THANK YOU, nothing more, and you provide that, nothing else is required or warranted.

Its REALLY great he supports the troops, I have seen him while stationed in England. But Travis AFB really its not exactly remote, not like here in North Dakota, where NO ONE comes probably cause its -7 right now. But please keep supporting the troops Kid we do appreciate it!
