The next stop of the club tour was Nashville, TN! Thank you to all of our fans in Nashville who came out to support the tour! The following local charities/foundations were recipients of CARE support in Nashville. Please see each website for contact information!
Gilda’s Club
Gilda's Club ensures that all people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action, and sustained by community. They offer the KID SUPPORT program for children with a family member with cancer and children who themselves have cancer. The programs are free and they bring families together to get the support individually and as a family unit. The CARE donation will support Gilda's club as well as one special child and his family that have gone through some very difficult times
Preston Allen's mom came to Gilda’s Club Nashville after her husband Dana was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer in 2002. Gilda’s many workshops and support groups helped them and their son Preston, a one year old at the time, live with cancer. The husband died last year at the age of 46. KID SUPPORT taught Preston how to recognize his feelings and emotions and then learned (and is still learning) how to express them in healthy ways in a safe environment. He knew he was not alone – there were other kids just like him. Last month Preston, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Friends from Gilda’s accompany them to doctor appointments, sit with them through chemo, bring them dinner, and try to give that sense of community that is sometimes necessary to overcome large obstacles.
Best Buddies
Best Buddies fosters friendships between people with intellectual and development disabilities and their non-disabled peers. The CARE donation will be used to start a Best Buddies Middle School program in five Nashville area middle schools. The program will pair students with special needs to their fellow students without disabilities with the goal of fostering one to one friendships.
Nashville Rescue Mission
The Nashville Rescue Mission helps the poor and hurting in Nashville. It serves three hot meals a day, provides a safe place to sleep and through its life-recovery program, helps people find a way off the streets to a better life. It costs around $2.26 to provide a meal to someone who is homeless. The CARE donation will ensure that a hot nutritious meal is available for anyone arriving at the doors seeking help.
