    what would you do??????
    Rosaria says (24 Aug '09)

Today as I was driving to my PT appt.. I see a small dog on the opposite side of the state hwy.. Would you believe that people just drove past and around that poor little thing...
Well I could not.. I made a U turn at the first driveway I came to, pulled in the shoulder.. put my hazard lights on and started blinking on coming traffic.. I rolled up on this little guy, got out of the car and boy was he yelling at me...lol..There was a house not too far so as the dog walked ahead I followed.. I knocked on the door and a young woman came and right away said to me.. "don't tell me he was in the road again".. I was like.. invisible fence ever hear of it... a run perhaps..The more I think about the more pissed I get. First I can't believe all these cars don't stop to help this dog and then the owner is like DUH!!!...

I def would have stopped at either tried to find his home or take him in. We had a few years back behind our house in the woods an old beagle that got disoriented and was lost in the weeds and was barking in circles trying to find his way out. We got him up to the house and then drove around the neighborhood with this old guy trying to find his home. Luckily he had a tag on and we called the animal hospital and it turned out he belonged to our neighbor a few doors down and had broken out of his pen.

I am a firm believer that if you take an animal in you should foremost make sure that they are safe from the roads. My one cat Macy goes outside but when he does he has a harness and 50 ft of rope so he can still ram around the yard but can't go any further.

Too many people take animals in just to say they have one and believe me if I saw one being abused or neglected it wouldn't bother me one bit to blow them in to the animal control.

We have a lot of coyotes around here and bear and mountain lions.. (even though they tell ya there aren't any)
My dogs are never unattended outside.. 3 are let out in the yard and we watch em.. they do their business and come in. and my problem child as I call him..lol.. is a runner so he gets walked on a leash.. simple.. I think people are selfish and cold hearted.

Krfan, the animal control up here is awful... Your lucky if they call back after you leave a message.... It is a very busy highway and I don't go that way too often... I should though look into the animal control in that town, or city if you want to call it that, but I bet they would not do shit.. Oh yeah and when she picked up the dog I saw a ton of fleas on it...yuk... What is wrong with people.. I have a ton of animals and they are clean and my house don't smell, like some houses you go into with cats and or dogs ... I take pride in hearing people that come over and say "damn you wouldn't think you had so many animals" I'm going that way tomorrow so I'll try to see the address and see what I can do...

Since I am an Animal Control Office and I do this for a living. I would have gotten or followed the dog home as you did. I would have given as many citations as they were in violation of. Such as running at large, failure to vaccinate for rabies, no city tag etc... It is obvious by her response the dog gets out or is let out often. I would go back and try to get the address to the owners, then I would report it to Animal Control. If I received this call as a follow up. I would talk to the owners and try to get them to see the light of their wrong doing. When you start talking to them about the liabilities (to the dog and others ie:car accident) that are involved it sometimes makes people pay attention. (more times than not it's like talking to a brick wall). It will at least put them on notice. And maybe Animal Control can patrol that area more and hit them in the pocket book if they see the dog in the future.
