What is it about Kid Rock?
    Carolynn says (30 May '10)

I'm not a huge fan of rap. Although I'll admit, in junior high there was a time when I myself was black..or at least I tried to be. Growing up in the area I did, I knew of Kid Rock at that age but the thought of another white boy trying to act black was not all that appealing to me (I had a whole school teeming with them.) If I wanted to date someone that thought they were black, might as well just go the extra mile and meet a real black guy at Eastland Mall. It was different for girls I guess, it wasnt as obvious that you were trying to "cross over" as it was for boys. Either that or the girls were just better at it!

Anyway- I listened to Dre and Snoop, even some Too Short and Ice Cube. But Kid Rock? They guy with the Kid N Play haircut? Give me a break! He's at Hot Hits? Big fucking deal. Kid Rock was nothing more than an afterthought in my mind.

Funny though, when Devil came out and I heard it..I was like wait? What? Have I been missing this all along? WTF? And so began my unlikely obsession with Kid Rock. Oh, I could surely kick myself now for dismissing him as just another wigga. But let's face it, funny as it is, Grits is a far cry from DWAC. And in those 9 years, Kid Rock redefined himself. And 9 years older myself, I was no longer interested in listening to music based upon the "hottness" of the lead singer. I wanted to listen to something real.

What really, truly sold me on his artistic abilites was when I got to track 11 for the first time. I dont have to tell you fellow fans what track that is. I'm sure you know every track by heart yourself. That song put Kid Rock into my heart, into my veins. That song came to me at a time in my life when I needed to believe that yeah, shit happens and only God knows why it does. Hold your head up, keep giving, it'll be okay.

And here we are a decade later and though I cannot say I've attended every concert or liked every song that Kid Rock has layed down since then; Kid Rock is and will always be a part of who I am. He's a man that hasn't let success change his views, his beliefs, or his dedication to his hometown. Someday, I hope to be able to shake his hand and tell him just that.

Excellent story! Well written too. I enjoyed it very much. :)

As well, I can relate 100% with Kid being a part of who I am. Kid, TBT, their music...is etched in my heart. I also relate to "Only God Knows Why" deeply, and did more so during two critical turning points in my life, one of which, has been recent.

I understand many can't relate to music quite the way I do...right down to my very soul, felt in every bone. For many music comes and goes, favorite artists come and go...for me, Kid Rock will never be replaced by another artist as my favorite, it simply is impossible for many reasons to in depth to explain. I will say, that Kid Rock and TBT's music has never failed to lift my spirits when I need it the most. The tears can silently be falling, and boom, chaka, laka...they instantly stop & I find myself bopping around happily to "Bawitdaba", or more currently, "New Orleans", "All Summer Long".

Gotta love it when the music, an artist & his band have that kind of magical emotional power. :)
