Uncle Kracker headlining in Flint on Friday, October 2 Josh DauntFLINT (WJRT) -- (09/26/09) -- Life is good for Uncle Kracker these days. From his daughter saying she doesn't listen to his music because she can't dance to it, to his best friend Kid Rock exclaiming that he has "zero musical talent," things couldn't get much better.
With this in mind, along with the struggling Michigan economy, Kracker released "Happy Hour" two weeks ago. As the title suggests, it has a very optimistic tone throughout the record.
"It was definitely a conscious decision to make everything upbeat and positive, mainly because of the way things have been here in Michigan," Uncle Kracker said in a phone interview with The ABC12 Listening Room.
And he's bringing that same optimism to Flint this week, playing the second date of his tour at The Machine Shop. Kracker says the 550-capacity concert hall, which he's played four times, is one of his favorite venues in the country.
Story continues belowAdvertisement"The whole setup of the place is just perfect and geared for live music. You see a lot of clubs where they try to do a club night, and maybe they put a stage off to the side, but The Machine Shop is really geared for live shows."
This seven-date headlining tour is a warm up for his 23-city run of theater shows opening for Train. After supporting Bob Seger at Cobo Hall and Kid Rock at DTE Energy Music Theatre over the past few years, Kracker is looking forward to playing his songs in a more intimate setting.
"There's nothing better than playing to a smaller audience. In my case, I don't have much of a choice cause I'm always playing to a smaller audience. But obviously the intimacy is so much better and it just seems like it means so much more."
Detroit's favorite Everyman hints at a good variety of his catalog for the show.
"We're gonna play some of the new stuff off the record, some of the old ones. You know there's a lot of must-plays at these shows."
And he also has a little advice for those who plan to attend.
"I always tell people don't expect too much. Keep your expectations low and you'll never be disappointed!"

Got my tickets, very excited for the show. I love when artist come to the Machine Shop, it's a nice short 15 minute drive.
