Once upon a time, a Kid Rock show in Detroit was something all my people wanted to go to. It was the cool thing to do, the cool place to be, a good time for all. Now my mom wants to go, my aunt calls for tickets, and my teachers from High School frequent the shows. Once upon a time, he was a devil without a cause, now he is all religous during his shows, making me feel as if he is a zealot without a cause. The lyrics and content used to be on the edge, its what made him who he is, now its pathetic and same ole same ole. Why do I hold on? Less and less of the music that makes the shows fun are being played, less and less of what made him who he is, is being made. We used to go to shows expecting to mash it up with a female afterwards, now we turn our eyes at the sight of tits being exposed, because of the cellulite and droopyness.
What happened? Where did he go wrong? Why?
All the years of saying fuck the critics, yet the man searches for critical acclaim! The EGO that made this man do it his way, is the same EGO searching for that which he pretends to despise. The Same EGO that makes him sing drift away at shows, is the same ego that makes him take more of the Hip Hop heavy songs out of the show.
Why Do I even stand by, waiting for a sign of greatness?
I dont know...
come on, Kev... you just

This shit was 3 years old, and it was part of an elaborate prank, ANYWAYS.... Move on
I agree with Beckxy. As an
I agree with Beckxy. As an artist he has to change with society and broaden himself. Very smart move he made and just shows the variety of genres he sings. However, I do hope he remains to have his old stuff as part of his shows because they will always be my faves. The "Born free" new stuff....not so much. But, I respect him as an artist for doing it. I still love him, think he's the coolest cat in town and the most "real' entertainer I know. I will always be a fan. I'm sure he's reading these comments and laughing all the way to the bank! On a different note, I'm extremely PISSED OFF, as are alot of Boston fans at how the ticket sales went down for his House of blues show coming up in June!! No one got tickets except for the scumbag ticket agencies who are more then tripling the price of them! PURE BULLSHIT!! I hope someone brings this to his attention! It's disgusting!! OK, I'm done.....rock on!
I AM still 44 years old.
I AM still 44 years old. when devil came out...my mom loved Only God Knows Why because it sounded like Cher's song. She loves Neil Diamond and Elvis.

I saw jonathan tyler with my girlfriend...maybe 12 people at the show...
of course that was cool shit (the shit you saw)
Daam I must of missed this
Daam I must of missed this thread back then in 2010..lol
~2 years later~
My answer, Kevin, would be... Yes.. my heart will always be in the younger days when Kid was laying it down making the kids mosh to somebody's gotta feel this.. it wasn't just about the performance and songs.. but it was a way of life... not giving a daam about when the night would end.. or when tomorrow starts. Religion didn't really play apart in my life much... I lived life care-free.. didn't want to grow up... and shit.. still don't. The newer stuff put ya in the mind frame... well Hank Jr. sang it best.. "All my rowdy friends have settled down"... and lemme tell ya.. quite of few of them have.. no kidding. Still we were kicking it.. but then I got the call 'to settle down' too. Wake up calls hit hard... but my life and somebody elses has nothing to do with what Kid decides he's gonna wake up and write today... but what's great about life is we all get older and wiser.. "we learn from the road"... My guess is what does a great artist have to lose if he chooses to pursue a different kind of crowd with the songs he chooses to broaden himself with...as it only makes him more of a household name then he already is.. right?
Lisa...calm down there girl.
Lisa...calm down there girl. LOL!
Wheres the reply button?? Oh
Wheres the reply button?? Oh there it is ... while i havent followed kid through his whole career, i do love his old shit .. i really really love it. I love the nasty rouchy (sp?) lyrics with the rap/rock music! But give the guy a break .. my guess is .. and he HIS a song writer .. he has many ideas runnin thru his brain about what hes writting. Like for example cold and empty .. that song is beautiful.. and it was writin way back when. But Born free is new and i dunno maybe hes maturing as a writer/person and plus he said he doesnt want to work with rubin anymore.. but i agree .. we need some old nasty rounchy (sp?) stuff again. I love the 70's rock stuff mixed with the rap stuff, if he does that again .. i WILL call hin rock n roll Jesus.
I have to say something here..... And I realize its mostly because I have been around these boards for a minute and have read Millions of posts by most of the fans.
It never fails, when the Fans that have done more promoting of Kid Rock and TBT than most of you can even imagine..... When these peeps give there opinion on something that they dont like, They are labeled haters or their reason for even posting here is questioned.
PEOPLE YOU DONT HAVE TO LIKE EVERYTHING ABOUT THE GUY TO BE A FAN.
I'm lucky, I like all kinds of music and love the Rap as much as the country , Pop and blues. But If he came out with a Polka album I would stand up and say WTF is this shit..... lol
LMAO.I NEVER LEAVE A COMENT ON YOUR BLOGS...THIS ONE.I HAVE A ?ITS YOUR ? WHY DO YOU STAND BY?IT SEEMS TA ME YOU BASE YOUR GREATNESS ON OTHERS WEAKNESS .BUT NOW YOUR HOLDING YOUR STAFF UP TO KID ROCKS.AFTER YOUVE SAID" IF IT WASNT FOR HIM?"I GIVE TWO SHITS WHO YA KNOW..THIS BLOG SAYS IT ALL.....YOU TRULY ARE GOD...LMBALLSOFF..............ATLEAST GIVE SOME RESPECT TA KID ROCK .....NOT ASKING YA FOR YOURS ..SIGNED .KID ROCK FAN
I don't think he blessed the crowd at all when I saw him on the RRJ tour, but that was last year...August 2008, over a yr ago now. He's obviously changed the tour in 2009...I've not seen him this year. He had Rev Run with him when I saw him...excellent show!! Though I admit it didn't have quite the energy of shows on the Lazy Tour, or Pain Train Tour...I missed the pyrotechnics, etc.. That's not his fault though...many States & Venues have outlawed pryo since the horrible fatal fire a few yrs ago back East.
I miss the energy Kenny Olson brought to the show too. Nothing against Marlon, but he doesn't become one with his guitar the way Kenny did, nor move around & 'feel it' like Kenny. I'm partial to Kenny, I admit it...and for justified reasons I won't elaborate on.
Oh & Kevin...I didn't say 'you' called him a sell out, but you & I both know that many who prefer the rap/hip hop of days gone by have, & often.
I'll admit when I first heard RRJ I wasn't sure what to think...it was different for Kid. I remember thinking many of the songs reminded me of other artists style, rather than Kid himself...artists such as Seger, Skynyrd...70's Rock...even a bit of Steve Earle sound I thought at first. I listened to it with Michelle, & I kept saying...that song reminds me of so & so, or so & so...it wasn't uniquely Kid Rock by comparison to what I was accustom to...with exception of Sugar. When Sugar came up...I said with excitement, "now there's some Kid Rock!" I took to New Orleans right away, it just hit me...love it. Also Amen, cause I relate to the lyrics, believe in them. The others 'grew' on me once I opened my mind, and I do enjoy 'All Summer Long', as well as, 'So Hott'...really love the music & beat of So Hott, lyrics are okay. I love the bonus track 'Guilty' also.
The concept of 'All Summer Long' merging two songs was a great one, obviously considering it's success. It's nostaligic...nostaligia sells, regardl
"However, while I am at a show, Blessing the crowd once is cool, God Blessing the crowd 5 times is overkill."
I must agree here--I'm not particularly interested in anyone's god (with all due respect). I listen to Rock n Roll & go to concerts for the music. If I wanted god, I'd go to church.
Never have I said Kid Rock sold out. I do not believe in the words SELL OUT...
However, while I am at a show, Blessing the crowd once is cool, God Blessing the crowd 5 times is overkill.
Making himself out to be this Rock N Roll Jesus, and then adding fragments of a Church Ceremony into the show, errrr Lame.
Listen, RNRJ is not a bad album, Hell, if Matchbox 20 made it, I might like it alot more. The songs I like on the album, dont even see the light of day.
All Summer Long is horrible. Honestly, it proves that people are so fuckin predictable. Do I blame him for making it? Nope, but have I ever like the song? Nope.
I would never call him a sell out. I think he is a Ego Maniac. I think I am an Ego Maniac, but this Ego maniac typing right now, will never ever change his stripes
My mom also calls me whenever she see's Kid on TV, hahahahaha. I'm like, okay mom, thanks! hahaha
HA! My mom said something similar...I was like WTF! 10 yrs ago my entire family thought I'd lost my fricken mind being a Kid Rock fan! They couldn't stand him. Never heard his music, and I couldn't get them to listen even begging them to!...they judged him soley on media bullshit & his relationship with Pam, tabloid crap.
My mon has made mention that she wouldnt mind catching a KR show with my sister and i, and i dont mean to sound like a bitch, but its out of the question!!!!!
My favorite Kid Rock & TBT CD...is one I burned myself of personal favorites, and I listen to it over, & over, & over again, never ever tiring. I bought my truck in March of 2005...filled the 6 disc player with 5 Kid Rock CD's, left only 1 slot for other artists, haha. To this day...over 4 yrs later, the CD's remain in their slots accordingly...DWAC, History, Cocky, RRJ took the place of Pain Train in slot #4...& #5 is the slot for the personal Kid/TBT fav's I burn, of which is updated as new music is released by Kid & new fav's take the place of previous. The one I burn includes songs from all Kid's CD's, as well as duets, recordings not released on CD's...such as Turn The Page. I keep copies of Grits, Poly, Poly Revisted, EMSP, Pain Train, Live Trucker, and burned copies of Kid/TBT live concerts I'm fortunate to have...in my truck as well, of which from time to time fill slot #1. Right now, Janis Joplins Greatest Hit's is in slot #1, haha. :)
Possibly the reason Kid didn't put more energy & emotion muscially & lyrically into 'Half Your Age' on the CD...is because he had no energy & emotion left for Pam, so in that aspect...the song does reflect what he's feeling for the related subject of Pam...he felt NOTHING! hahaha Absolutely nothing...negative or positive...there simply wasn't anything left in him emotionally for her.
2bitmissy...I too enjoy "Half Your Age" live, hahaha...it comes to life then, and Kid puts energy & emotion into it with a female co-star, such as Stef...but on the CD itself I don't enjoy it, and think it's lame by comparison to what I know Kid could've done emotionally & lyrically with the song. Hell, he fired back at Pam more in news comments than he did in that song, of which was 'suppose' to be related to & directed at Pam...she deserved worse, LOL.
I keep having additional thoughts related...hahaha. Hey, it's been a while since you & I debated & conversed like this Kevin...feels good! LOL
I don't believe Kid sold out either, simply because he put out a CD radio would play. He still does it his way, doesn't sell out...IE: he wouldn't allow Itunes to sell his RRJ singles, believed his CD would sell in it's entirety in retail stores, etc....& all be damned if it didn't, hahaha. :)
I think many have taken Kid's 'I won't sell out' promise from the 90's out of context somewhat & held him to it, regardless of related circumstances. His promise to himself & intent back in the 90's with 'I won't sell out', was directly related to getting a major record deal, refusing to put out music radio would play simply for a record deal...instead of what he wanted to put out. He kept that promise to himself with DWAC. Having accomplished that goal...his way, without selling out...he began to 'naturally' evolve personally, & followed suit musically evolving with Cocky. Pain Train has some good music, some lame too...it reflects personal evolution also, with where he was at in life emotionally & musically. Regardless of one's art...where they are at emotionally in life will be reflected in their art. He had a dry spell when Live Trucker was released...it was simply a fill in until he could get his head together & put forth some musical artistic ability again...he lost interest during that time in his life.
Well, he came back fired up, as I always claimed he would once he had something to prove to himself and to others...and RRJ was about proving something, no mistaking that fact, haha. :)
I love half your age.... I wish he would do a few more humorous songs and I especially love it with Stef's version....
Oh, and I didn't mean move on & forget about his Rap/Hip Hop roots...rather move on like he did, to master other genres & captivate fans of those genres too. One should never forget their beginnings, what brought them success, and always include those factors in continued success. I agree 100% with you in that aspect. The only thing I really don't agree with you on...is the point within your blog title...leaving him & the music behind because for now, he's chosen to explore other aspects/genres. He is doing it well, haha...gotta give him credit for it...RRJ has been his biggest success since Cocky...& then some, as far as reaching across musical boundaries he had not previously...no?
No, I know you didn't say he shouldn't sing Kevin...not taking your statements out of context, simply 'thinking' out loud with some of my comments...such as I had the thought what if he went back to Rap Hip/Hop, nothing else, then I'd personally be sad, see it as a waste of talent. It was just a thought related to the subject, but not related to anything you said directly. I love the mans voice, love his entertaining energy...regardless of what he has done to date.
Cocky is a good mix, and that is what I prefer personally...all of his musical talents on a CD. RRJ is a bit of everything...granted, Sugar was the only old skool song. Though I like most of the slower tempo songs...I do agree there are too many on RRJ, and would've preferred a couple less replaced with more upbeat Rap/Hip Hop.
I would've preferred he omitted "Half Your Age", added another Rap/Hip Hop in it's place. "Half Your Age" IMO is a 'filler'...it's lame, beneath Kid's talents lyrically and in voice...I don't hear emotion or energy from Kid when he's singing it...it's like he didn't show up for the game when singing "Half Your Age"...he's not feeling it at all, and the lyrics are lame by comparison to what they could have been. Another is 'When You Love Someone'...not a personal fav. My personal fav's with the slower tempo are 'Amen' & 'Roll On'.
I can think of only two Kid Rock songs I'm totally not liking & skip when the come up..."Half Your Age" and "Single Father". I appreciate the concepts of both songs, but the music and the lyrics I just don't feel are all they could of been, more 'filler' songs so to speak...and I don't hear emotion in Kid's voice when singing either, not like on other emotional 'personal relationship' related songs he's written & sings...Prodigal Son, Black Chick-White Guy, etc..
On top of what?
I think you are totally taking my statements and drawing your own conclusion. I did not say Kid Rock should not sing, I said Kid Rock is steering away from what made him who he is. I dont expect him to rap on every song, I expect him to rap on a song. I don't expect him to Make an album full of Amen's, I epect him to make an album of everything. Something along the line of Cocky.
Kid Rock is a great entertainer, possibly the best live performer around. However, This years show, was slower and filled with alot of filler.
i agree connie jo he did a lil of everything at darien lake in july had the time of my life and kev some of us still miss the old days 2 but the music is still hot thats why hes still on top
I dont know KR personally to say weather or not he has matured, but aging is a part of life. Like Angel said he is almost 40. He is just trying to make a living like the rest of us.Do you think he is compromising himself? Do you think he also doesnt like this new music of his, and he's only doing it to stay in the game, or is his taste in music just expanding?
But dont give up hope on the possibality that KR wil someday do an old school show. That would be a dream come true to me, and my sister and i would fly to whatever part of the country we had to to see it!!
Ya know...I told him once, that I wasn't in love with him like all the other girls were, but rather that I was in love with his voice, hahaha. I remember he had the oddest look on his face, LOL. We decided his voice was like that of a race car engine...well lubricated and kept cool it runs it's best, he laughed and said, "yeah! That's it! My voice is like a race car engine!"
I agree with you Kevin...he most definitely want's recognition and acceptance mainstream, & world wide. Why wouldn't he though...he accomplished all he set out to originally with DWAC. Hell, no one can beat perfection, not even Kid Rock. He'll never be able to top DWAC in the rap/hip hop genre...not in any aspect, including sales. Why not move on, stop while on top of the game, start playing another game you've not mastered yet. :)
