Hi there! My name is Dr. Teresa Scott. I am an advocate for children, Foster Children to be very specific. I am a long-time fan, and am writing today because I am hopeful that this will inspire others to come forward and help. Did you know in Michigan there are over 16500 children in Foster Care? In my county (Kalamazoo) there are over 650 in care. I am reaching out to KRC not for money, not for accolade, but to ask for support as we recruit families to care for our states most vulnerable children!
“Somewhere you got a brother, sister, friend, grandmother, niece or nephew
Just dying to be with you
You know there's someone out there who unconditionally, religiously, loves you
So just hold on 'cause you know it's true
And if you can take the pain
And you can withstand anything, and one day
Stand hand in hand with the truth”
Many of the lyrics point to the fact that YOU truly, care deeply about the impact we human beings have on each other! Pointing out the obvious is not what I am here to do; instead I am asking that anyone who is reading this would take a moment and think of how they could positively impact a child in foster cares life by becoming a foster parent!
I was a foster child, maybe that is why I relate to this…I hope someone out in KRC land replies, especially if you live in Michigan. Please do not hesitate to contact me. I am hopeful “the man himself” will contact me! I have so many crazy stupid idea of how to build this “partnership.”
Thank you for having a site where people can contact one another with ideas, and the willingness to listen and respond—not many do!
HI Dr. Scott,
ty
Unfortunalty each state has
Unfortunalty each state has their own policies and procedures, starting one and transferring sounds like a great idea, but logistically the information states do not generally want to share, and beyond that they woul dhave to do additonal finger printing etc. It is probably best to wait until you are in the next state!! :) Interstate compacts --one state to another are rare and often only involve a relative placement that was directed by a court system...they are rare and take FOREVER! UGH! good luck --keep me posted!
Hi Dr. Scott,
Hi Dr. Scott,
I really admire the work you're doing to help all of those children in need.
WOW! your story is so
WOW! your story is so inspirational! I am sad for your tragic loss, and I rejoice in the fact that you are now looking at fostering or adopting!! It is a hard choice, but I tell you this--the life you change will not just be your own! The impact you will have on a child will be lifelong and positive!! If you need any assitance in navigating sysytems please do not hesitate to contact me!!!
Sometimes folks are just
Sometimes folks are just incapable of raising children. The foster network is vital to insuring these kids learn critical skills at the right time. Many infants affected by maternal drug use need warm and loving homes to ease them into the world. If you specialize in babies...great. If you take a family of kids that would otherwise be separated, great. If you mentor older children great. There is nothing about this program that is not great. The adjustment process is not easy, and most kids need therapy outside the home and special help in school. If you can be one of these peeps who can help at this critical time, St Peter will smile BIG at you when that time comes.
WOW! yes!! this is so very
WOW! yes!! this is so very true! And in the United States we are in desperate need of foster homes...but in Michigan the need is CRITICAL! If you know someone who is interested would you please pass on my information to them?! I would love to talk to anyone who has a heart for children!!
