    New Orleans (RNRJ)

These are just a few random notes on this song.  Nothing too spectacularly surprising, but I thought I'd include stuff like this anyway.

    Written by:
    R.J. Ritchie, D.A. Coe

    Notes:

    • "Hey Pocky Way" is a song by the Neville Brothers, who are also mentioned in the song.
    • "Cat's in the Cradle" is a song by Harry Chapin. other than it being a cool line, I'm not sure if there is any other relavence. Chapin was a folk singer in the 70s, from New York City. Its a phrase and a song that is used as a pop culture reference in a ton of other places.
    • "All the Cat's in the Cradle gonna Rock this Kid tonight" I love how he always plays on his own name (with "Rock this Kid".) He's done this all through his music.
    • "If the good Lord's willin' and the rivers don't start to rise" is, of course, a play on the traditional line "Lord willing and the creek don't rise."
    • "bon temps roulez" is French Cajun meaning "let the good times roll."

I enjoyed reading this Jade.. Rock On !!

oh! good ones, both Beckxy & Margo!

I had forgot about the Joe C Arron Neville line~ clearly KR has some love for the Nevilles! lol or maybe he grew up with his parents listening to them?

and interesting connection with the "Lord willing" line and Hank Williams Jr... its on old, fairly common idiom but perhaps KR got it most directly from Hang Williams Jr? its possible, given their relationship. I see if I can turn up anything on that.

I should mention both these things in my list... why not? :-)

thanks ladies!

btw I believe Arron is the lead singer of Neville Bros.

@ Jade I've heard some Arron Neville songs in the past, he's a really big guy who's voice doesn't match his body lol...which got me thinking what Joe C says in DWAC "high ass voice like Arron Neville" and I'm down with the devil...ahhh love that song :)

"If the good Lord's willing and the rivers don't start to rise"... yea.. first time I heard this was a good couple years ago when I bought Hank Williams Jr.'s Almericlub album.. they play a lil sample of young Jr. saying this "If the good Lord's willing and the creeks don't rise".. "we'll see ya" "that's right" or something in those lines.. then it goes into a very bluesy.. ' The Pork Chop song'

Anyway.. I do find myself quoting that a lot...lol

thanks ladies! I'm with you guys, these funny and clever little wordplay bits embedded in the music really amuses my. I love it. :-)

and Margo, not only did I know know what "Hey Pocky Way" was, I wasn't terribly sure who the Nevielle Bros were. lol I really do have a wide range of knowledge of music, but I guess everyone has their blind spots!

Went to Coldstone Creamery with my kids. Thought their cup selections would be great in a Kid song, "Like It, Love It, Gotta Have It." LOL-just my two cents, Jade.

I absolutely love that you are doing this Jade...I have always had a thing for random factoids :-) I think it adds so much more depth to the music, when you can "get behind" the lyrics and understand what is going on with them. I know that when I write, I hide stuff in my lyrics too, like funny inside jokes that on the surface look like something entirely different than what it really means. Just wanted to say though, thanks for all of the hard work you have been putting into the project!

Cool, I never knew what Hey Pocky Way meant...Thanks :)

thanks RSMS! I had a moment last night, but I think I'm good now. today's a new day, and I'll try not to let the spammers and morons get to me! lol
:-) have a good one!

I feel your pain, Jade.

oh, bite my you got damned spammers. fuckin'A, its bad enough we have to deal with morons on this site, but the spam too? shit... its like wading through crap here sometimes. I swear to fucking god, the 4 or 5 of us that give a shit about the damned music should just get together and have coffee so we don't have to wade thru this crap to try and start a discussion.

*sigh*
