    Kid Rock comes through

    On an unrelated note, my hat’s off to Kid Rock, who not only acknowledged Vietnam veterans about whom I wrote in last Sunday’s column, he spent several minutes reprising their story from the stage, then leading cheers for them during his concert Tuesday at Van Andel Arena.

    “I guess we touched him,” veteran Rick Falls told me shortly after the concert.

    Falls, who lives in Grand Rapids, hadn’t seen some of his Army buddies in 43 years and used the Kid Rock fete as a springboard to finally get together. They scored VIP tickets thanks to the folks at Jim Beam, who have a close working relationship with the artist.

    What they hadn’t counted on was a lengthy audience with Kid Rock backstage while the first act performed.

    “I’ll bet we were with him a half-hour,” said Falls, marveling at how the singer signed autographs, handed out shirts and kept reminding the veterans that the night was on him.

    “He told us ‘The bill’s on me,’” Falls said.

    “You know, we didn’t get much recognition when we came back from ’Nam,” he added. “But this made up for it. Talk about the royal treatment.”

Angel, Thanks for posting, that brought tears to my eyes. Thinking of my dad, a Marine helo pilot, he went to Vietnam three times and voluteered the last time, probably post traumatic stress. He flew the medic vac helos to pick up the injured behind enemy lines. He is the only one of five of his friends still living. A marine to the bone!

thats awesome. what a 43rd anniversary gift for those guys!

he's always giving back in some way. i remember a while back when he donated a nice sum of money for the kids in clarkston to have a water spray park that was also dedicated in the name of a young girl that had passed away i do believe, and he hasnt stop giving since.

i can only assume that its because he knows how fortunate he is to have the life he does, and he knows where it comes from.

anyway, great job!

ps.dang angel, i was gonna ask for a new car. lmao
