i know this topic is as old as the hills but i just gotta know.......

i know kid rock is a big shot now and all that....i was just wondering who, if anyone here, was actually a fan of his BEFORE devil came out? (i use that album because that was where he kinda started to break bigger) Im really into my music and i get really protective of artists i like. I can rememer when devil came out, or even history or cocky, and people would have no clue of early mornin stoned pimp, fire it up, polyfuze (which is his best BY FAR), Its like they would say, "hey this bullgod song is awesome!" and i just think, yeah it was awesome back in 93 too! It just bothers me when people LOVE someone SOOOOO MUCH but have no idea about his past decade of albums. I know people get older and music can change but damn, im sorry because i know 99.9 percent of you guys are into the kid of today....but its just terrible im sorry. He should also watch with changing his backstory too....bout bein all about country and this and that cuz thats not how it was. I rememer him saying "fuck bob seger" on stage back in 96 i believe because he wouldint let him sample one of his songs or somethin, but now he jocks segers nuts.

ok ok i can tell im rambling.. so ill just say, if he would even just play older stuff still today it would be awesome...but im sure the 40 year old couple who loves all summer long wont enjoy hearing balls in your mouth would they? its like he just got big and said welp c ya guys who were with me back it the day i dont need you anymore.

kid rock you sold out man

Been listening since DWAC...........I too went back and got all the old shit and love the new stuff just the same!! Kid Rock is still rocking cause he's smart! The old shit was/is fun but you can't roll on that forever. He's the best at what he does. He entertains people!! Entertainment is what people want. What ever it takes.......he does it and does it very well.

Yes Connie that was said perfectaly :)

Nothing wrong with good story telling. LOL!!! And those you mentioned told some great stories.

Connie Jo_3's picture

I remember Kevin, & a couple others like Catwoman...telling stories of the pre-fame Kid Rock, back at KRAA. Some great story telling, and you felt almost as if you were there. :)

bluesuedeshoe's picture

Love the entire book of business, and am very thankful for YouTube, and those that share videos of those early shows, so that we can see it and hear it as it happened. Before then, all you could do was listen to folks tell stories about the "early days".......

Connie Jo_3's picture

Everything in life changes sweetie...everything. We either accept the change, appreciate it for what it is...or not. Don't have much of a choice beyond those two, do we? lol It's all good, and yes, you most certainly do have a right to your opinion. You should hang around though, there's more to being a Kid Rock fan than the music...there's also being a fan of the man, his causes...Military, etc.. :)

Christy_41's picture

Hey Robby,That is pretty kool.you told how you felt..and was cool with the response of other's...I respect that.
Kid Old School will always live with him..I think..believe he doe's have to move forward aswell..
anyway Respect and Peace. :)

Rosaria's picture

You have to move on and grow as you grow..That's what I believe....Just like with any aspect of life.. for everyone.. you cannot stay the same.. You have to grow.. otherwise, your just the same old shit... Like the kid that hung out at the park.. When he's there as an adult.. Your saying to yourself, Jees man grow up and move forward..... In My Opinion... Kid Rock is doing just fine with his music....

Christy_41's picture

I think Kid really care's about his fan..I think he cared before the money started rollen in and who could blame him for careing more when it did.lol..Just an added bonus right?lol

I'm 44, will be 45 in Nov. 2 of the best compliments I ever got...Were...
1. Last year, when my Ex's step mom passed, at the wake I ran into my very first love and BF..haven't seen him in over 15 yrs. and he said..."Damn, you look "exactly" the same"....Thank you very much...
2. Some guy at the store was bugging one of my girls to go out with him...She being 18.. I ask him how old he was.. He said.. You first(being a smartass) I said 44... He said.."What do you do take preservitives"....I about pissed my pants...He was in his 30's .. I said "back off my girl, she is way to young for you"...
And of course the fact that all my kids friends think I am the absolute coolest Mom there is.. and I think I am stern with everyone, but I get where they are coming from...lol...

robby ghoul's picture

yeah i figured these would be the responses id get, and thats cool, people have their opinions and i have mine ya know. My older brother was the one that got me into kid rock (well i actually stoled his tapes without him knowing when i was younger to hear it for myself!! hah) and he likes all versions of Kid, but i guess i just couldint follow anymore. I still listen to him alot, but i have never popped in RNRJ or the self titled, i just cant listen to it. (cocky is pushing it too) but like i said, its just my opinions and i liked hearing about what others had to say.

mgriff's picture

Did we answer your question? Are you going to stay or did you really just sign up to ask this one question?

mgriff's picture

i agree with most, Kid Rock is 38 yrs. old and has definitely matured and you can hear it in his music. I think he still throws in the young Kid Rock in some of his newer songs. I love that he does a little of everything. he definitely has not sold out.

Connie Jo_3's picture

Excellent Kevin, as always!! :)

That Guy's picture

I was there from the beginning.

To refer to Kid Rock as a sell out is really illogical. Kid Rock busted his ass for over 10 years as an independent artist. Devil Without a Cause was Kid Rock at his best. I always waited with anticipation for each and every kid rock release, and when Devil came out, I was blown away. EMSP was always my favorite album until that date in August.

Kid Rock made it to the big time doing what he does best. He fused genres of music. Now, people call him a sell out in some circles because he has moved past the rap. I being a true blue fan of hip hop miss that aspect of his music, but to pretend he has sold out simply because he is not doing what I want to hear is simple minded.

Kid Rock has always done what he wants to do. i think when people tell him he cannot do something, it drives him to prove them wrong. RNR Jesus was a pretty good album, Was it as great as DWAC to me? No, but what it did for Kid Rock was open him up to a whole new fan base. All Summer Long was the 1 successful song off this album, but it transcended into every fucking genre of music. Country, Rock, Pop, Adult, all stations played that song. in a day and age when people do not buy music the way they once did, Bob has started to branch out and reach a crowd that still supports the artist, at the same time, staying edgy, staying relevant, and staying on top.

Selling out? I do not think the term sell out is as offensive to people as it may have been 10 years ago. In the music industry, you have to sell out to a point to reach your dreams and goals. It is a different playing field these days then it once was. Bob got REAL LUCKY. Devil without a cause was one of the last HUGE selling albums of our time. He reached all his monetary goals and dreams with that album. So trust me, what he is doing now is not selling out, its what he wants to do.. That is who kid Rock has always been, the guy who did what he wanted, when he wanted to do it..

Connie Jo_3's picture

Okay, I didn't read the entire thread, but want to reply to robby directly anyway.

No, I wasn't a fan pre DWAC, became a fan in 2000 after a friend introduced me to DWAC. I don't listen to the radio, haven't in years, so the only way I discover new music is through word of mouth, so to speak. Unfortunately, unless one lived in or around the 'D' back in Kid's basement party days, selling EMSP out of the trunk days...they wouldn't have had much of an opportunity to become familiar with KR pre DWAC.

I hope you're not suggesting it makes one less of a fan because they didn't have the great advantage you did? You were blessed, but that doesn't mean post DWAC fans are cursed either, haha. The way I see it...any person who becomes a fan of Kid Rock at any point in time...is still a fan, regardless.

I was born loving music...musicians are in my blood line, so likely inherited my love of music. Once I discover an artists music I absolutely am intrigued & awed by, I search for any music by that artist at any point in their musical history. To me, being a true fan of an artists music, means knowing all there is to know about that artists music...current and past. Therefore, yes...I own originals of Grits, Polyfuze, Poly Revisted, EMSP, Fire It Up, and have for several yrs now.. I also have a fair collection of rare unreleased recordings from Kid's early days, including a couple of those basement parties...thanks to a couple or so close friends from around the 'D' who have been generous enough to share over the years, knowing I am deserving of such as a loyal fan, haha. :)

As far as Kid selling out, I disagree wholeheartedly. As an old skool fan yourself, you know that KR mentions in early song lyrics...various genres of music being in his blood from the time he was a real 'kid', haha. He told us fans yet again in later lyrics, as well as told the world..."you can't put your finger on me". Obviously, he meant what he's been saying in lyrics over the

Carolynn_2's picture

Im not saying that he doesnt care..I'm just saying that without us, he wouldnt have the money he does..lol

Carolynn_2's picture

I personally think its BS when people that have been fans from the "beginning" try to act like they're all high and mighty and better than the folks who may have just jumped on the bandwagon last week. Fans=money=who gives a shit? We're all a buncha dollar signs anyway when it comes down to it.

A fan is a fan and it doesn't matter who has what, who's been there since when, or how many concerts you've been to.

As far as his lyrcis changing, like someone else said: He's not a kid anymore. His music has evolved as has he. I don't think that is selling out, if anything I think Kid Rock has stayed true to who he is all the while, not giving a damn about who stays along for the ride. Wouldn't selling out be the exact opposite?

Just my 32 pennies.

IMO, most of them are just being PC making the apology because they are too concerned about public opinion and don't have the guts to respond with kiss my ass, that's just how I am so ---- off. lol

Most of the public doesn't really believe the apology or that rehab will work this time any more than it did last time for them and it really is just a bunch of blah blah blah.

Mimi_4's picture

Couldn't agree more with opinion!!!

I like the whole not being PC when voicing stands/opinions and the kiss my ass attitude. My other fav entertainer pretty much has the same attitude. That is one of the things I love the most about both of them, outside of their music.

Mz J's picture

I think that most people that love his old and new stuff is because we are emotionally younger than the number of birthdays we've celebrated. Heck, I don't feel anywhere near my physical age. I always said I felt 17 (and act that way most of the time, lol) but I changed it to 21 so I could drink.....

Christy_41's picture

Amen Angel :)

Christy_41's picture

No one can only live in yesterday...I dont believe Kid sold out!!! I would call it growing older and wiser I love the old music..I love the new....Maybe I am growing older and wiser aswell..
If you are a Kid rock fan you feel his music..What he means behind the words..What they are about..I am really sorry you feel this way...
Maybe you sold out, to live in yesterday is to never progress, and I believe that what we all want is to progress..
Kid didnt want to go out of his carrier bye being know as only slap'n garden's F'n hoe's..
Man really get real..I am so sorry you feel this way..but maybe you never were a real fan to think that he never had a spirit..or that he would'nt show his spiritual inside..
I personally dont understand why anyone would go to this sight just to ditch Him
It is a Fan site if you are no longer a fan then why are you here?Just wondering???

I am not meaning any bad intentions,You told how you see it I have told how I do...
Kid Rock a Sell Out?? Heven"s NO
Only God Know's why
Amen

Robby, I'm glad you enjoy the old stuff but if you're old enough to be an adult when that stuff was out, then maybe you can realize that Balls in your mouth was cute when I was twenty something...but now that I'm 37 and have kids, I can't exactly be blasting that shit out my car windows anymore. He's still edgy but he's grown up some and hopefully we all have. That old stuff is awesome but it's almost kinda comical now....Fuck you blind! helll yeah but come on, the last thing I want is my two year old singing it. lol.... Oh yeah and don't fault us for getting on board after DWAC...that's when anyone south of Michigan heard of him....or we would have been fans before!

Eva37's picture

well im 37 and i love the song balls in your mouth so ha! ha! i love all his old stuff and newe stuff ive been a fan since 99'
