Now get in the pit and try to love someone.
Update 09/04/2008 http://www.wftv.com/video/17383539/ For Local Story and Photos! What happens when you flood aside from just getting wet? Septic Tank and Sewer Supplies leak into flood waters and into well and fresh water supplies. Fertilizers, Pesticides, gasoline, oil, diesel fuel, and kerosene leak into flood waters. Propane Tanks and Natural Gas lines float to the surface breaking supply lines. Forest critters and pets seek higher ground and Alligators and snakes come knocking for dinner. The very earth becomes swollen and heavy causing foundations to crack and sometimes causing sinkholes. Automobiles are a total loss. Electronics and appliances short out. Anything that touches the flood waters needs to be decontaminated and treated for mold or disposed of.
Florida is full of retirees living on limited incomes. Even FEMA Funds have to be paid back, yes, it is at a lower interest rate but still paid back. Some folks just can't afford help. American Red Cross only distributes and manages things that are donated thru other agencies and at this point they are out of our picture and off to someplace with more publicity. Don't even get me started on American Red Cross. Harvest Time and the Local Christian Sharing Center have been providing Food, Baby Formula, Diapers, and Bottled Water but they are now tapped out empty. Local Jail Prisoners are working around the clock to fill sand bags for distribution. However, our Local Sheriff, God Bless his Soul, has organized a not for profit assistance program. All donations go directly to the victims and are tax deductable just make sure you request a receipt. You can even specify where you wish your money to go or donate goods or an 18 wheeler of goods. Make checks payable to Seminole Community Volunteer Program, and send to: P.O.Box 951636, Lake Mary FL., 32795-1636. Or Call 407-323-4440 x2 ask for Nancy. Need: Cleaning Goods such as Bleach, Disinfectants, Brooms, Rags, Face Mask, Rubber Gloves, Galoshes, etc. They also need: Roofing Tarps, Furring Strips, Roofing Nails, and more muscle is always welcomed. Now we are looking over our shoulders at HANNA and IKE. Blessing to you all for your concern and Prayers! Just another reason to love the Kid, your all great! Thanks, Heart
Damn it has been awhile but for those of Yall that may be interested and wondering where I have been. We are all Flooded - Flooding - and taking on even more water with 3 more tropical systems in the Atlantic. I live in an area that is close to the St. Johns River in Central Florida. The river has not even crested yet nor is there a Crest due date we are under Flood Warnings Until Further Notice. I have been helping out others and family member since before T.S. Fay. This is not normal we have even broke the 100 year flood stage. So it is not just stupid folks building in bad places. There are historical Road Closing and Flood Waters happening now. I can't even imagine what it will look like in a week with 3 more systems in the Atlantic. I feel so helpless I can not lift over 30lbs these days and sandbags way exceed that limit but atleast I have my truck that can haul it and I can drive. Even with that she has been buried to the axle 3 times. Had it not been for my hell raising redneck days she would still be sitting there. Thank God I actually knew what to do and how to drive a 4X4! So I guess I have been doing some good and folks are always so grateful to see me but I do think I should add a Brush Guard and a Winch to the sucker if I am gonna keep up this stuff. They discovered 2 Cracks in our Seawall yesterday that holds back the river from our town and this is not good. My house maybe a piece of crap but atleast she is high and dry I just feel so bad for all the folks downtown and our hospital will be closed and the entire city public works dept.. I am trained and certified as a first responder just for reasons like this. Places like New Orleans get all kinds of help and money and Publicity but there are still places in FL that have not recooped from Hurricane Season 2005. Punta Gorda was dessimated, folks still surviving in untied down toxic FEMA trailers and no one seems to care. The American Red Cross has already left us to fend for ourselves so any donations to them will not do us any good. Just local churches and individuals like me and my family are left to do what we can. It all comes outta our own pockets ...Thank God Pay Day is Friday! Diapers - Baby Food - Formula - Water - Ice - Gas - Propane - its gets so expensive after awhile! So Mr Rock I guess I won't be making the St Augustine Concert after all but thanks for the presale notification. It would have been a great B-Day Present for me...LaLaLa #51...WooHoo! I just can't turn my back to Home. So Peace Yall and Have a Happy!
