I didn't get to see these guys on the island on Friday, but did get to see them in the casino on Thursday and then their show in the C lounge the next.
I fell in love with this band.

I'm not a big fan of today's pop country.. the stuff sounds all the same to me with no distinct instrument popping out like the good ol' days of country. Like Waylon's guitar flange strumming with that back beat. Willie's distinct nylon string guitar strumming and Cash's freight train thumpin'. And, really I'm only going on 37.. so I may been born to have caught the tip of the outlaw stuff before it was buried with the same old sound of this day's Nashville overkill of produced junk. These guys took me back... to when my dad would come home from a long haul, bring them outlaw records on home that he got at a truck stop, and play them for us... that shit would filled the void, and musty air in our household.

Their style is raw and gritty. Their lyrics are just real - talking about a real way of life for some. Loving up on your woman after a night that ya both been drinking.. taking in her whiskey kiss... who ain't had that hot sexual experience? He didn't get to the part of having whiskey dick.. but hell.. who don't fall asleep with that same sweet smell of a whiskey kiss and wake up in the morning with a nice hangover..lol And then, their other songs about growing-up as a child living hard life in "Bastard Child".... songs about getting to a gig on time..lol.. songs about addiction. I can hear Leroy's influences thru and thru... and it shook me !!

I had gotten a chance to meet the lead guy, Leroy and his girl Jenn... real nice rocking couple. He was all smooth-like. He smiled crooked and kept his eye on me and said.. "Well Hi Maam, my name is Leroy" and slowly brought up his hand to shake mine. Um.. ~melt~ He almost said it Johnny Cash like.. and at the same time he would joke on stage about now that Cash is gone.. well, somebody gotta take over..lol. Quite a cool mf'r he and she was.

And last but not least.. the band.. well as soon as I saw the up-right bass.. I was there maaan. lol Leroy is down right talented.. plays guitar, harp, while sitting on a bass drum keeping a beat. And then there was Rico.. this cat looked like he came straight out of that movie 'The outsiders".. had the killer greaser look going.. tats.. total Rockabilly look to him.. even had his own hand rolled smokes that he flipped in his mouth from time to time.. quite a character.. but this dude can play a mean ass lap steel.. shit.. the lap steel itself had it's own character.

Back to meeting them... So when Leroy was done introducing himself.. all I could say to him was..Maaaan, Don't change a fucking thing !! I probably repeated myself a few times.. cuz I'm a woman of many words written down.. but when I'm in front of you.. I don't say much..lol. We talked about going to see Shooter Jennings and how we thought they should tour together. We I think they did already..lol

Anyway... I give these motherfuckers two thumbs up.. 5 badass beers.. and a big Scumbag Salute. They are on facebook and they are touring around the US. I'm hitting the Philly show late June.. so my June is looking pretty sweet with the beginning of the month Kid Rock and TBT show in Atlantic City.

We heard them on the island. They sounded great - and I agree - old-school country - CASH style!

Ahh.. TammyRay.. I truly missed out :( I'm so sorry I couldn't make it there. After the sail away show... we found the nearest seat which happened to be in the back there at the buffet place... just right outside the lido pool and gotten about 5 glasses of water and chugged them. I can't imagine what we looked like to ppl walking by.. but we had gotten exhausted for some reason.. think it was the heat, standing in the crowd for an hour waiting for the show to kick off... oh and what felt like the running of the bulls up the 9 flights of steps to the lido to get a good spot for the show...lol After that we flopped our butts down, kicked up our feet, and stayed there for almost an hour til we recoop'd. I even saw you with your hat near at a stool near the hot tubs.. but couldn't say hello at the time b/c he had to pee and I had to find water. True bummer that we missed it..'missed out on a lot this year' and thank you so much for the dog tag, shot glass, and lei... I would love to have them. I know you are in Cali, right... and we are far east... but hoping to get out to Vegas in like two years.. my brother wants to get married and I'd love to schedule it around a Kid Rock show ; ) PS... Hellbound Glory is mostly on the west coast... they are from Reno, NV.. so I'm thinking you may come across a show somewhere near you, hopefully. Thanks for saving the items for me... I hope to get another chance to meet you. xoxox
