    Haitian Hellhole
    bluesuedeshoe says (27 May '10)

Times are tight, but, if you could find some way to assist the rescue and reconstruction efforts in Haiti as a result of the the earthquake, please contribute.

I have many friends from there here in Connecticut, and the situation is desparate there, for sure. Several have gone to assist their family, friends and country.

Those poor folks sure have my prayers, it will be years before their infrastructure works again.

Wow! Last I read, over 58 million raised for the earthquake survivors. Wonderful to see the way folks are pitching in to help.

I used the text donation the night before last myself. It worked just like you described Kelly!
The text message donation was at 6 Million last night before I finally fell asleep. thats a huge & great jump, now just to get the planes able to land on the airstrips and the supplies circulated!

This situation has given me nightmares for the last 2 nights after staying up watching coverage on Nightline and FoxNews. To be in these people's situation is emotionally undescribable for me. I only hope w/all the donations of food, water & supplies, it can start reaching the ppl before more survivours lose their lives from Dehydration, lack of medical attetnion and still being buried in the rubble.

I just sent the text, then got one back asking to confirm my donation. I did then received another text back that my donation has been made to The American Red Cross and will show up on my next cell phone statement.

Not to push one charity over another, but I have been registered and trained as a Red Cross volunteer since the day after 9/11. This is without a doubt, a charity that you can trust.

Not a problem at all Miss Joc : )

I just spoke with my cell phone carrier Sprint, because I've never done a text message donation. They verified this text message information, they have been made very well aware of it. I asked (because I was absolutely clueless to how this works) how the money for a donation through a text is actually paid for and I was told...

The donation will show up on your cell phone bill with The American Red Cross as the charity your donation is being paid too. You can also verify that your donation has been made by calling the American Red Cross but I was told to wait at least 2 weeks for processing before calling. There are a whole lot of scams going on right now and even though it's only $10 I myself just wanted to make sure that my money isn't ending up in the hands of seedy, disgusting crook...you can also make online donations at this link to The American Red Cross...

Saw this last night also. Please everyone text..it's legit and only cost 10.00. Unfortunately as with any disaster, many scumbags/scammers come out of the hole they live in and take advantage of a devasting disaster such as this. There are ways to make sure your money goes to helping the people of Haiti and NOT to some a-hole's pocket. This is one of many. God bless these people!!!

It's had to believe someone would take issue with donating to help others out. Must be one cold hearted person. I'm sure they would sing a different tune if was them that needed help.

Also as a reminder, there are many greedy individuals that run scams during times of disaster to get money for themselves. Be sure to donate only to organizations that you already know.

Kelly, thanks so much for posting that information and the video. So appreciate your help.

You can text HAITI to 90999 to donate $10 to American Red Cross relief for Haiti.

This comes directly from The American Red Cross website and has been verified on quite a few different websites also.

I had someone on my FB page yesterday who had serious issue's with us donating anything to anyone, anywhere. If this person had actually watched the news to see what's going on there, I don't think this person would still hold the same opinion. This is one of the somewhat "good" stories that have happened, it's also a very good reason as to why, if you can afford it you should please SEND THE TEXT!

They didnt know if they were hurt or dead. Last night the news peeps set up a skype (sp?) and they got to see all 3 little boys were ok and the orphanage had Borrowed a school bus and got all the babies out of city. I bawled for hours..
