For those of you that enjoy my son's newspaper articles-here is his latest one, good reminder to everyone if you were to ask me:)
Here it is:
By my son-
It’s that time of year again, the well-known and anticipated holiday season. It sure is a busy season with people traveling for get-togethers, parties, and other holiday celebrations. It is important to remember to be careful and safe while on the roads this season.
There are all kinds of different drivers out there. There are those rushing to get to their next destination, those who are from out of town and are learning where everything is, and there are those who have very busy cars with friends, children, etc., as well as many other types of drivers. Every single one of these drivers, if careless, could get involved in an accident. That is why it is important to be alert and be careful the entire time you are on the road.
Then there are other things. Construction, debris, and the occasional deer are just some examples of obstacles that you should mind and look out for while driving. While construction can be easily avoided, deer need special attention to watch where they are going. Debris also needs special attention as it could already be on the road or it may come from another vehicle after some holiday shopping.
Another thing that you should watch out for is the weather. I know that here in our town, this hasn't been a problem yet, but it soon will be. You have to be careful in times of snow as visibility is drastically cut back. Also, be warned about the ice on the roads that your vehicle can slide on, as well as the invisible “black ice.” It is in these weather conditions that you have to pay even more attention to other drivers as well as construction, debris and the occasional deer.
Also make sure that you are not using your phone while driving for talking or texting as it not only endangers you, but other drivers as well. Remember that in any of the circumstances above, seatbelts can and will save your life if something bad does happen. Seatbelts are there for a reason, so make sure that you use them.
There are many dangers on the road already, and many more in the weather to come. So be safe and pay attention so that your holiday plans aren't interrupted and so that you make it to that celebration or that holiday special and get your passengers there safely. I just want everyone to have a safe and happy holiday season.
