Hey Bob Thought you would like to see a letter sent home from a Detroit Soldier. Sorry that you have not heard from me in nearly a month. I have embarked on a great journey. I literally am busy 18 hours a day and could probably work 24 hours a day if I didn't require sleep. Things have been going well out here. It was snowing every night 2 weeks ago and in the low 30s all day. Then one day it was all of a sudden summer and it has been in the 70s and sunny ever since. Yesterday some old football players came to visit us. It was Matt Millen, Merril Hoge and Anthony Munoz. They were all very cool and had never been in a combat zone before. They were in awe of our living conditions and you could tell they had an immediate appreciation for what we do. Matt Millen told me that coming out to our FOB made him realize just what pussies Americans have become. He said this as he was getting off the helicopter. I couldn't help but like him despite his abysmal performance as Lions GM. I let him know I was from Detroit and he gave me a knowing look. His son is a 1LT deployed with 10th Mountain and got to come out with him. I ate lunch with Merril Hoge and we talked about the Lions amongst other things. They autographed a 120mm mortar shell and I said, "I'll bet you never thought a piece of metal with your signature on it would kill some Taliban fucker." They were all cool and down to Earth. My 1SG and I were videotaped with Merril Hoge and will be on Sports Center. I introduced myself and everything. It was great. Other than that excitement, like I said we have been extremely busy and are doing our very best to get a handle on the situation here. The Soldiers are all great and spirits are high. It's nice being so far from the flagpole. If you could forward this to some others I would appreciate it. Thank you. My address is as follows: McCarthy, Timothy C/1-84 FA FOB Ghormach APO. AE 09368 I love you all very much and promise I am staying safe.

One has become a papa, and has only been able to see pictures. This is the second tour for our unit. On the first we lost 2 young men under 21!! So, thank you for pointing out the important NEWS instead of the people who are just acting crazy!!!!!!!

Sad isn't it that the antics of Lohan and Sheen get all the media attention, and our service men who pay the highest price for OUR freedom get not even a mention. What happened to us?

What a GREAT post! It is truely a shame where the attention is!

My daughter and son-in-law are in Iraq for the 2nd time and I take care of their son. A couple of weekends ago, she had the privilege of fitting Iraqi children with wheelchairs. They do so much over there for us but have to give up so much to do it. From an Army Mom....thank you for supporting our troops. It means a lot to your fans!!!!!
Wild child's picture

I come from a long line of soldiers. My family started with the civil war and we still maintain our duty with myself and my 6 siblings in the Iraq. We are all in the USMC and we are hardly ever recognized for our service. I see US soldiers killed everyday but, I hear more about celebrity gossip than I do about remembering the loved ones who perished fighting for freedom and I'm right here in the middle of the battle zone. I had a journalist walk up to me last week and say; Hey did you hear about Charlie Sheen getting fired from two and a half men? I love that show and it will never be the same without him. After the journalist said that he turned to walk away and as he was walking away he said ; OH by the way, half of Sgt. Harlans platoon was just blown up but I didn't get any of the soldiers names. This goes to show how we compare to jacked up and thieving celebrities, who's life seems more important than those who are being killed for their freedom and their rights. Thank you Rock for noticing our duty and service to our country and for speaking out on our behalf. Master Sgt. Hope Ritchlyn

Saw you on P Morgan- I love how you love this country, I love how you honor our troops, I love how you love your hometown, I love how you are your son's father, not best friend. I am now your number 1 fan. I just purchased my very first Kid Rock CD! I can't wait to listen to it! You have to come to Fayetteville North Carolina- Home of the 82nd Airborne!

something to think about: TAKE THIS IN!!! Sept 11th- New York, January 11th- Haiti and March 11th- Japan. Luke 21:10-11 Then Jesus said to his disciples: "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be great earthquakes', famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven. 'Jesus says for behold I come quickly' so ask yourself, are you ready?

As Americans where are our priorities? Where is the outrage....or is life just too comfortable to bother?? "as we sit free and well" says it. Amen. Thanks Bob, from this Marine mom. And for those spammers on this thread.....FUCK OFF for disrespecting our dead heros.

yess its a selfish world we live in. Nobody really seems to care anymore. Doku soaps, Jungle Camps, Big Brother and the gossip of famous people is more important, then helping out the people next door. I am not american, but live in a town where many soldiers used to be stationed. We had american bars and clubs, an american german fair, and had close friends which were soldiers. When the american soldiers were stationed in our town, it was safe to go anywhere in the middle of the night. Those times sadly have very quickly changed, after they left! I lived in the states for a while, moved back home and work with many north americans. I honor the people who give their lifes for someone else, their people and their country. I must admit, I hate the war(s)... It scares me... and every little town has a war on its own.... People are envious, they are worried that their neighbors have more then them. :-( I work at an airport and the other day some dude, just went into a shuttle bus of the american army and started shooting... for christs sake, I thought this only happens in the wild west, but those times are over.... it doesnt matter, where you live.... you are not really safe anymore. :-( At this shoot out - 2 just newly arrived soldiers died. The were picked up to be stationed in Rammstein and probably were on their way to Afghanistan, to help their troops. Instead they flew back home in a casket a few days later. That was quite sad! So hell yess, I honor those women and men, even so I am not a believer in War!

It is so sad to see that the media gives more attention to the crazy anitics of celebrities than focusing on the people who are allowing us to be able to live a safe and enjoyable life. They put their lives on the line for us every single day and we can't take that for granted. God Bless all our soldiers who are out their protecting us and our country. Look forward to seeing you at the Fed Ex Forum tonight in Memphis, TN. I know your going to rock it out. Karen & Tim Fitzpatrick Marion, AR

All people need Prayer no matter who they are! I'm off my soap box now
Leah_6's picture

This topic that Bobby brought up is very near and dear to many peoples hearts. So why would you( whom ever you are) be trying to sell stuff on such an important issue? I think you need to get your priorities straight. Instead of trying to sell your crap send a prayer for free. Prayer is extremely powerful. Your Prayer could save a life!!!!! Just some food for thought
Leah_6's picture

Its a sad world we live in today. When people care more about celebrities and the messes they make for themselves when we have real men and women fighting for our freedom. God Bless all our military men and women no matter where they are. Then as our military men and women come home to the states they do not receive proper medical evaluations and are left here in the states to suffer! Then right now we have so many natural disasters all over the world but who cares about that as long as people have their daily dose of messed up celebrities. Its s sick world and will continue down hill from here! Pray for all these people who are going through what seems like hell on earth!! I do everyday.
