Do all my fellow Wingnuts have their Octopi ready to throw tonight? Sure am hoping for the best, but don't think it's gonna happen. GO WINGS!!!!
I'm no Kid Rock hater, in fact I'm a Kid Rock lover, I've paid good money to see him live 2x, at Air Canada Centre on Born Free tour (which was EPIC!) and again at the Boots and Hearts Festival this past August... I've purchased every CD, including Rebel Soul, and even t-shirts at the concerts which ran an additional $40.00 an $30.00 respectively, so all the Kid Rock defenders can hold on, because this is just a humble opinion.
I'm just unimpressed with Rebel Soul, I can't wrap my head around it, Chickens in the Pen, Happy New Year, I don't know, I just don't get it. I want to hear some feedback, so maybe I can get a better understanding, learn some perspective, try to appreciate the art. I'm not hating the album, as a few songs have potential, but the album as a whole I find is lacking, and I hate myself for even saying this.
So please, be nice as I mean no disrespect, I'm just wondering what I'm missing, or if I just don't get it...please help me love this album.

SMACAVELI....you are right,
SMACAVELI....you are right, Kid Rock does have the best fans! So many wonderful people on these threads. I was so excited to get my CD, I rushed through the songs. Since then I have gone back and listened over and over again. Let's Ride, Rebel Soul, Redneck Paradise, The Mirror, Midnight Ferry and Cocaine and Gin are just great! I love that there are so many styles of music. I even think I hear Alabama on Rebel Soul. I am hoping that he does a video for Rebel Soul , Midnight Ferry or Redneck Paradise.
Thanks to everybody for their
Thanks to everybody for their input and not raking me over the coals for this post, just proves Kid Rock has the best fans in the world... And he is still the greatest entertainer alive!!!
There is hope, I played it in
There is hope, I played it in car on our hour drive to mother in law's house last night and my husband, who is not a big fan of Kid Rock's music, said he liked it!
aww, thanks for changing it
aww, thanks for changing it Smacaveli :)
I agree RockSavedMySoul, if
I agree RockSavedMySoul, if Smacaveli got a bottle of Jim Beam and listened to "Cocaine and Gin" he would love it. If this song doesn't send chills down your spine then you must be dead.......
You are absolutely right, it
You are absolutely right, it should say help me love this album
Smacaveli: could you consider
Smacaveli: could you consider changing the title of this thread to your last line (Please help me love this album)? "Not impressed" just seems so harsh and if you come to appreciate the album, you might regret the title a bit. IMHO, there are a couple of songs which I am really looking forward to hearing in concert since Kid comes alive LIVE!
I got one word for this CD
I got one word for this CD "Bad Ass". The American Bad Ass did it again. Great CD...love it.....
West if you are into happy
West if you are into happy you need to pick up Kracker's new one released on the same day. Well pick it up if you like southern rock/pop/country style. Kracker is on it. WAS & STILL AM VERY IMPRESSED>>> Yet i am more then positive it won't sell what it should or be recognized as it should....Excellent songwriting all the way through. Melody, chorus, verse. It is fat as sumo wrestler! Of course i am a Kracker fan so take that for what it is.
You"re right Angel AKA KRA it
You"re right Angel AKA KRA it just depends on your style of music...if you"re a music lover you will love this cd. I think it rates at the top. He should be called Kid Rock the "Entertainer". Love the Rhythm and Blues sound. "Hank Jr" and "BB King" would be proud. LONG LIVE THE KID................
I think Sherwood is right.
I think Sherwood is right. It'll grow as you listen and become familiar with each song.
I think its way better than
I think its way better than Born Free... But I love blues Rock and Honkytonk..
I think when you expect the
I think when you expect the best you get disappointed. Personally, I like majority of songs on this CD, I don't think there was an "All Summer Long" or "Born Free" here; but in my opinion, there was some pretty good stuff here!! BTW, Happy New Year is my favorite! It is a happy song, I can listen to over and over.
I absolutely love the Kid,
I absolutely love the Kid, however, I agree this album was and is not his best. His vocals sound raspy like he is straining his voice. Rock should have rested a little before doing this album. I crank up my music because I love it all. I don't pump up the volume to try and get it. Some of the songs are just ok, I thought Rock was going to give us some of his heavy hard hitting Rock and Roll Kid Rock style. To all members of the congregation I am and will always be a Rock fan so please don't get rude because I have an opinion.
I would agree with others. On
I would agree with others. On the first listen i didn't really care for it. But i know how i am with music and cds. If i don't like it on the first listen. I wait a few days then listen to it a few times. After that i picked out several songs i like.
He is running in many musical circles with no real direction. Born Free had a definite direction. It was a southern rocker with piano. It was like Elton John went to the south. Which i personally like. Elton is amazing. As is Bernie Taupin, the man who wrote all the lyrics for Elton. Elton did the performing and music part, Bernie did the lyrics.
Anyways i think Rebel Soul is a good record. I honestly feel like Kid is dabbling in all the types of music he enjoys and isn't really setting a musical course. Kid has never really has been this or that except in the beginning to me with the rap. I remember seeing his mug on the back of my rock magazines i used to buy. IT was advertisement for his first record. I was and still am an avid reader of everything to do with music. Just don't have the time to do it now. I used to be a walking dictionary on 80's rock and pretty fluent in most all music knowledge.
I just think if you keep in
I just think if you keep in mind and remember that Kid Rock has always been so diverse with his music that with an open mind and with time, you will come to appreciate this album as a whole. One thing I find common with my friends I've met here and there, they appreciate a ton of different genres of styles. One night we are shaking our ass to the apple bottom jeans song.. the next minute we're banging our heads to welcome to the jungle.. then we catch some Al Green to have a drink to... and finish it off with a lil Alabama's Love in the First Degree...lol ~ just keeping a broad base of music appreciation in mind listening may help.
Thanks for being respectful
Thanks for being respectful about it.. I hope it grows on ya...
Kid Rock is easily one of my
Kid Rock is easily one of my favorite musicians, by far. I too have seen him live numerous times... 6-7 I think. I understand where you are coming from though with Rebel Soul. Dont get me wrong, there are some good tunes on it, BUT I was really hoping for a few heavy jams on this album. At least a little taste of the old... throw in a 45 second rap break down or something. Im not saying I hate Rebel Soul by any means. I think this is gonna be the way Kid Rock's albums are from now on... Blues...jazzy... southern rock...ANYWAYS, keep on rockin' Kid!!!!
Isn't it a bit early to write
Isn't it a bit early to write a review? I mean the beauty of Kid Rock's music is that it grows better with time and more HEARING ! Do you have a decent stereo? Have you TURRRRNED it UP UP? I find his music like a fine wine...ggrows better with time! : )
Speaking of time, when I play
Speaking of time, when I play Cocain and Gin and that later part of Mr. Rock and Roll ya know the Save me part. It takes me back to a time when I was a kid with no worries and singing Gospal Hylem on sunny Sunday morning,.
I'm just wondering what I'm
I'm just wondering what I'm missing, or if I just don't get it..I can't wrap my head around it..
Those were your words and I must say I feel the same in regareds to somethings, anyway, I find most of the songs upbeat party and down right danceable in many styles,.umm hun,.
This is a work of ART whitch is highly respected by me and others I feel for just the mere fact of effort/contrbution of work.
Keep doing what you love is all I can say.
Not every song is going to be
Not every song is going to be everyone's fav but crank up the volume and listen to The Mirror--I think it's an outstanding song.
No worries, not everyone gets
No worries, not everyone gets a new CD off the bat. Plenty of discussion here to help you over the hump. Suggest you spend an evening with it, just you, the CD, and some adult libation. Pretty sure you'll love it after that, lol.
