I've now played this song over 2 dozen times... on the car ride to work, and listening to it on my laptop with a cheap 10 dolla pair of headphones.. while doing a writing assignment, and I just love love love this song to no end. Kinda reminds me of Marlon's Purple Sky guitar work.. and Jimmie Bones playing a beautiful set on the what sounds like a Hammond B3... not sure. I've already had goose bumps, and tears.. the song's really tearing me up, I tell ya..lol

You know what this song needs.. another verse added for a female to duet with him like..hmmm Chaka Khan. oh yea :)

I like number 10: Mr. Rock n Roll.. the whole visual sounds funny.. they should work with an animator and create it. The song rocks

Okay.. I need to go read this article.. it was posted earlier today but had to go get some sleep. I had that crazy dark thought too while in the car listening to it... thought lord knows there will be a time when I will have a funeral and there will be Kid Rock music being played, the stan I am. I thought this one seems perfect along with Only God Knows Why... But there will be no funeral planning talk for a very long time for anyone, may we all be blessed and enriched with strong wills and very long lives.

Good article, and though the whole bonus round thing was funny, I'm with Diana, and I don't like hearing about him wanting this played for his funeral. I get what he's saying, and it's a great song, but it's way too soon to be thinking about that.

Thanks for the Detroit Free Press article- link is here...http://www.freep.com/article/20121118/ENT04/311180049/Kid-Rock-s-Rebel-Soul-track-by-track

Interesting Read.

Congrats Kid & TBT on the New Album

Happy Thanksgiving also...God Bless & Rock On

The Detroit Free Press did a 2 page article/pictures of Bob on Sunday. He said that Midnight Ferry would be for his funeral. I didn't like hearing that! The article went on to describe what most of the songs were written for/about. Really nice article and a great shot of Bob from the Billboard magazine cover.

Yeah this song makes my heart cry, and think about things I don't really wanna' be thinking about, but it's cool too.

Yes, Miss Becky, I was among the lucky ones!!! :) Hallelujah Baby! It was a very nice surprise to be invited back considering I was a virgin :) That car and I were MID and the hitch is on my bumper...drive that Jeep proudly...blaring Kid Rock!

The folks that are going to the NY Eve party are going to have a blast this year! Are you going?

Bluesuedeshoes: I thought of you when I heard the lyrics.

:) me too

Ah.. Miss Detroit Rocker, you were one of the lucky ones, eh? Cherished memories fer sure :) Love your pic beside the MID logo.. is that on your bumper? I don't know... the song is def dark, but in the end, it picks ya up out of the darkness... an awakening so to speak.. a glorious way to say.. things may all seem shitty for the moment, months, years but it's okay, and we will be okay. I board the midnight ferry every night at 11pm when I go to work.. not the work or the pay I know I'm capable of.. but it's okay because I'm working towards a better future.. so I'm gonna carry on my way with yes the world, with a smile.. Halelujah Hey !! The song also makes me think about my mom and what she's been through.. and his dad.. but I don't wanna talk about that now... but it all relates, and It's soulfully glorified. New Years Eve does put ya in good spirits :) Who don't wanna get shitfaced..haha

Margo, I'm so sorry to hear :( I feel ya; my husband's dad is too. You always come here with a smile, keep on the sunny side, sweet lady.

I'm with you Beckxy! Purple Sky is awesome as I relate it to Michigan as I do Midnight Ferry! When I heard this on the boat, it became my favorite with Happy New Year! I have to off set the tears from Midnight Ferry with Happy New Year! I have never been a country music fan, but am a convert with Bobby's music!

I'm retracting the hammond B3 guess.. lord knows I don't know instruments to save my life..lol... but the more I think about it.. it just sounds like one of them vintage soulful electric organs. Jon Nicholson, who was apart of muzik mafia, used one alot. Ray Charles was playing one in the movie, The Blues Brothers. And, this crappy video on youtube of when Shazam did the 2010 Rally to Restore.. he used one. It really creates a beautiful soulful sound. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RszLgXjEOYc

if ya archived the sailing log of the ferry it would tear ya Up too. when one captain steered the ferry he created a journal as they all do...some of the exerts just cuts ya to the quick. the wartime ones are just heartbreaking to me. ferrys are often a place where one love says goodbye to the other while other loves wait looking across the water Hoping that they dont have "waves" crash them. if your interested to see them you'd have to come on my side...to sheybogan to the wartime musuem true its remarkable what some of these ships on the great lakes went through..its a great place for a family outting . lots of things to experience as a family great people to mingle with very friendly and helpful. The day I was there a BIG NAME Yacht manufacturer was sailing a yacht to another country and said ever want to GO SOMEWHERE im your man..who knows maybe someday I will take him UP on it...

bluesuedeshoe's picture

Nah, Elvis covered it, but go look on YouTube for specifics. Been around a long time and covered by the best. Love that song.

1bbshirlee's picture

What does that mean?

bluesuedeshoe's picture

It means I do not think St Pete will greet me. Bob either. LOL.

The first time I heard it I teared up too :( It's a great song...I'm not gonna listen to it again for awhile, my Dad's going through a health crisis right now, I'm too emotional to listen to it....only the upbeat songs for me for now!

I bought two CD's yesterday. One I'm keeping in the foil, the other to play. I listened to it twice but I'm still listening - as its alot to take in. One song for sure I agree I Love - Midnight Ferry. I'm still listening to it- some times it takes a few times. Kid has picked his band well, very talented ALL for sure.
