Tune in for the vice presidential debate
    By my son

On October 3rd, we as the American audience got to view the first of three Presidential Debates between President Barack Obama and Governor Mitt Romney. This Thursday, October 11th, will be the lesser known but just as important Vice Presidential Debate. In my article that was published two weeks ago, I went over the structure of debate, my experience with it, how it relates to the Presidential Debates, and how important it is to view the debates. This week I want to discuss the importance of the Vice Presidential Debate.

I know that many people are less concerned with the Vice Presidential candidates than the Presidential candidates, which is understandable. However, the first reason why they are important is that if anything happens to the President they are running with, then they are the ones left in charge as the President themselves. The second reason is because their platforms and ideas strongly influence the President's as well as occasionally getting enacted on their own terms. Basically, I am saying they are important too.

The interesting thing about the Presidential Debates is the fact that there are 3 of them. This allows for the candidates to drop issues and reconsider them as well as mount their offensive and defensive in preparation for the next debate. The Vice Presidential Debate is different in the fact that there is only one. What this means is that the candidates will not have time to prepare for the debate or structure their arguments in comparison to the Presidential candidates. This means it will be completely off the tops of their heads so you will be able to learn more about their platforms as well as the Presidential candidates' platforms.

You will be able to learn about their actual platform rather than the version that has been reworded for the public. Along with that is another difference. In the Presidential Debates, issues will be dropped and brought back up later with different wording. Since there is only one Vice Presidential Debate issues won't be dropped until they are finished. If they are dropped by one candidate however, it follows the same logic as the sport of debate that the person who drops it surrenders it.

I ultimately want to encourage everyone to take part in this election whether it be by voting (if you can), watching the Presidential Debates, watching the Vice Presidential Debate, anything to get involved really. This election is an important one that will drastically affect our future and that is why I urge you to get involved in some way. The Vice Presidential Debate is this Thursday, October 11th.

I know right, my son sat there in disbelief-he was so upset and saying that even in his high-school debates it's not like that and they are kids-he was beside himself! :( He was going to continue with his bi/weekly articles of debate, etc.. elections up until after the decision of who America's President will be but now he has once again been disillusioned! :( So now it's my job again to shed hope for him and on his future and I'm gonna have him watch Kid Rocks video again with Sean Penn-he loved it and laughed his butt off and to just sit back, breathe and continue on cause it is what it is and yes it's his future as well as all of ours!!! Hugs!!!
