    rjl1969 says (11 Sep '12)

Ok, here we go. For those who don't know Beckxy, she has come up with a wonderful idea and nonprofit org that we are going to try and roll out. Beckxy will be founder and is she chooses also Chief executive dependant upon her schedule. We need people to volunteer for the board and vote for appointment to fill the positions. Read just a fun read under express the Kid Rock in you to get all the info so I don't have to give details again. The board can be very small to start and grow and I recommend people with some experience in the role to seat that board position but it is not absolutely necessary. We need chief if Beckxy decides to just serve as the head and founder, auditor, bookkeeper, writer for minute and report- we'll say annually for now, it would be nice to have legal if anyone knows an attorney willing to volunteer at this point or probono with pay to come later, chair of committee- which can be shared in the idea process for now. There are others but this will be the core and a good start and we can add as we grow and serve multiple functions until established. I need a representative from each state to look up the tax laws in that state, completely separate from government nonprofit taxing, I will need assistance in research, also someone for computer work, design, and webpage , we don't have to have insurance or an attorney at this point but it never hurst to cover ourselves. So please post whether you want to vote and appoint, volunteer, or likewise for board members and what if any position you would be interested in and if not, would you be interested later on a committee when we are further along to help with deciding how to carry out mission, planning, financial, education objectives, etc.....look forward to your posts. Meanwhile I will look into Facebook page.

It's no different than an insulin dependent diabetic because they basically live without a pancreas and a cystic fibrosis PT has to take enzymes to eat because their organs are under developed. That's why my meds vary because of the enzymes and how many meals or snacks I eat a day. No pain, no pain meds, no transplant because I don't want or need one nor do I want anti rejection drugs so if life gives you lemons you make lemon aid . Some like theirs sweet and some bitter and I prefer sweet with some splenda if you will! I have a great surgeon and a wonderful gi doc that people come to see from 5 different states in Dallas but luckily I only have to drive a little over an hour. I could go on disability but there are a lot more people that need it worse and I still work full time. My last job just about killed me 60-70 hrs week with 24/7 on call and being around sick people all the time I ended up in the hospital for 3 days with bilateral pneumonia. Look for to working from home without sick people, spending time with family, riding bike, fishing, and finally being home where maid service can come in. My husband was so afraid to let someone in our house while at work because of my jewelry collection but I didn't care as I just wanted the help. I have to sometimes pick and choose what is most important things that need to be done because I still have completely built back my energy and muscles. I lost so much weight so quick that I went down to a size 4 and it waisted my muscles but now I'm back to my southern corn fed Texan self and muscles are rebuilding quickly but i do still get tired. Oh well , work in progress. That's why I love dancing because the exercise is great, it's fun, and it gets me back in shape. Swimming and horseback riding have also been good but I have to limit the riding due to not wanting to jiggle those organs too much.lol it all good and I'm loving life and whatever it throws my way and I know if even bad, it's for a reason.

RJ, my mom's been told by many docs and interns that she's quite a unique case... 'their special patient'.. I can't tell ya how many interns would come in a day just to get a listen to her heart. Luckily, she loves people and didn't mind it much. Yet, listening to your story sounds like you have been quite the special patient too. It's been long while since I had to study the endocrine system.. but being that ya said you have to do the insulin shots made it click in my head that it's the gland that produces and levels our insulin levels. It's amazing how the study of science and technology, and how far we have come has saved so many people's lives. I have to go get ready for work... but will come back later to try and explain and answer your questions.

Hey I'm good. It's all good no more pancreatitis , no ppain, no pain meds. I'm a freak of nature and go against very odd. I had a congenital abnormality of a split pancreas and they did not catch it until age 35. I'm so lucky to be alive that I just have to smile. I escaped death not one, not twice but 3 times a lady. Lol. Tell her no wound vac if bleeding cause it will literally suck the blood right out of her and could cause hemorrhage. Give me details and I may be able to help. What was the initial diagnosis, what surgery did they do first second..., why did she have colostomy- I'm assuming with reversal, went went wrong if you know, because what I'm hearing it something went wrong, and why is the feeding tube being put in the stomache- sounds like mid part is fundus- it should be jtube for jejunum or peg tube. Why is she bleeing? Did something get nicked, how long has wound been there, why are they not packing..is it due to bleeding. Hope you don't mind me asking but thought I may be able to help. To bad she is not in Dallas Baylor. They have the best. Got my internet for office at home today and waiting for harriers installation for Ethernet so I am fix in to b good to go. Holla back.

Beckxy's picture

Angel, I can only imagine the months it will take because how how big that hole is. At least, they didn't have to cut her anywhere else.. and went right thru where her stoma was out but I'm am sure you know how big of a hole that is to heal up. She told them at the hospital that she didn't want any pain killers, and that she would just use tylenol if needed. I am not so sure I would be that brave. I would be asking for double the doses, or just knock me out for a couple of months until it heals..lol
Her next step is to actually get the hole in her heart (between the top two chambers) fixed.... but she's pretty reluctant in wanting to have this done. They want her to travel to a bigger city.. which she will not do. And, the doctor that they did find for her in our city somehow got arrested for something and lost his license... (scary) but they did say that there is new female doctor who will be practicing here pretty soon. Yet, her fears get in the way of any of that, and her thought process is... is she's lived with these defects all her life and she's 68 now.. she might as well live with them until it's her time. All I can say is... it's been almost 4 years now from the day that she fell over that we almost lost her, and I feel very blessed and thankful to still have her with us. It's been quite a life changing experience having to deal with (both) aging parents. I can't imagine how hard it is for you having to be in the hospital, and how tough it is on your youngen. As you know... there's no handbook to guide ya thru as it comes. It's apart of life's journey. I have put my faith in God and prayer to help carry us through.

Angel aka KRA's picture

@Beckx God she sounds so much like me lol.. The wound vac will heal her more quickly and leave LESS scarring.. Cleaning and daily packing is a pain but its something you or anyone can learn to do with no problem.. It can take months to heal....

Beckxy's picture

RJ, I had read a lil bit about this in your bio but not to that extent, and just to know you lend you heart out the way that you do... such an inspiring young lady you are :)

Angel, mom had her reversal surgery a couple of weeks ago at the end of August. I thought it went rather well since I've observed such a difference in her recovery time in the hospital. She didn't have the tubes in, she wasn't as loopy from the meds, she didn't have to go to the rehabilitation center afterwards, and she didn't have to have the heart doc come in to observe her while undergoing the reversal being hat she has the 3 defects. The only concern we are having is we feel that they may have messed up on her wound care from the start... as they sent her home with a big hole in her tummy with just gauze on top... not packed in. For a week, she was like this, and until she went to see her family doc.. nothing was done. I questioned her due to the fact that it wasn't like this the first time around.. and that she had visiting nurses coming in right afterwards. So, after she saw the family doc, he mentioned that they messed up somehow.. and she was immediately scheduled with visiting nurses every other day. She's still bleeding a lot. They thought about working with the vac pack... but said that they feel they can treat her with just dressing it or packing it. But, yeah.. she's so ready to get out of the house and do things again. She just planned this trip with her girlfriend to see the Fall foliage by taking an old steam train ride up to Jim Thorpe, PA in mid October, and wants me to help her have another yard sale soon.. so she ready to get out of the house..lol Thanks for asking. Hope things are going okay with you.

Angel aka KRA's picture

Holy Shit RJL God Bless and I hope you recover as well. BECKX, Hows your momma doin??

rjl1969's picture

Hope your ok Angel and have a speedy recovery with whatever is going on. I know how it is. I am 2 years out from having my entire pancreas and spleen out and still learning ,even as a nurse, to be total diabetic w 4-5 shots a day and from 30 pills a day now down to 18-20 and kicking like a chicken. Keeping busy keeps me going and most people would never even guess that my life is sometimes living hell because, yep, I'm a fighter in the living sense, a lover in the giving sense. I have the us record for the most endoscopic retrograde pylorograms with pancreatic stent placements and I just quit counting at 50 or so. I'm lucky I didn't end up like MJ they put me under so many time and with the same drug. 1 surgery a month for 1st 3 years then 1 every 2 months until my body said no more and I ended up almost coding in the unit. I live every day like it's my last, not like a party , and learn to live while dying , not die while living. Hang in there, have hope , love like there's no tomorrow. Ps except for those occasional outburst for those who just really push that button . Lol live and learn.

Update: I've created an open group so that we can post and discuss ideas, and have invited Bobbie Jean and Angel so far. RJ, I don't think I am a friend on facebook. The group is under C.A.R.E. I've changed education to effort as of right now. I didn't send out a mass invite as of right now until I get with Bobbie Jean, RJ, Angel, and whoever else would like to be involved to discuss our mission and ideas. I would rather people come freely and that I'm not just making another group for people to have to check in on a daily basis... as there are a lot of "Kid Rock" groups out there.... some for fellowship.. and some for great causes. I've seen people complain about there being too many groups to follow... so I want people to come freely, if ya know what I mean.

Beckxy's picture

And, Angel... I know for a fact that you have been a great supporter of all the great causes that our community angels have done... it makes me happy to no end knowing you would want to get involved when the time is right :) I know the healing you speak of because with all the other things going on... I'm there with my mom trying to do anything I can do to help her heal as well ; ) God Speed, my friend. Love ya !!

Beckxy's picture

Hi you guys... been doing a lot of research this weekend. Found a site that explains a lot about nonprofit.. the pros and cons. I've gone thru the Sunday paper and cut out every article that was motivating for ideas. And, I've done some researching on nonprofits in my community to see where I could start to help and volunteer some time. I also took a moment to listen to Kid Rock's song "CARE" again... for inspiration. Bobbie Jean.. hey girl !! thanks so much for offering yourself to this idea :) I've been wanting to write you for the longest time... just need to say that I'm so very EXCITED on a few things that I've seen you have written, or posted.. wtg !! Angel, you are absolutely right.. I'm sure I could get a bunch of great info from those two. I may have said scary because of the fact that I don't know how much time I could devote... which I have expressed before. Matter of fact, since the school thing started, I've kept my time very minimal on facebook with talking to buddies so that I keep school work as number one priority. Yet, it's quite an exciting time seeing the response from those of you who are interesting in joining seeing the C.A.R.E program as an actual growing org. It's def. motivated me to keep pursuing your elements and ideas as they come. Many questions have come to mind on how we can not only benefit one cause or mission.. yet take it into our communities who need it the most. RJ.. thank you for believing in this.. you have been giving so much needed information and directed me in so many thoughts of where this could go, and what's needed.. and I need all the help I can get..lol. Thanks again my friend!!

Angel aka KRA's picture

Board Member isnt scary..lol Just dont have time, energy or ability to focus right now. After I heal, I'll jumpin with both feet. Struggling to get the day to day done at this point... But wish you all the luck..

Angel aka KRA's picture

If its any help, Sonia with The Kid Rock Lifeline has researched and gotten Non Profit status for that group.. She may be able to give advise. Also Meredith with Eye Candy

Bex you may want to think about some fun raisers once people , tax id and such in place because it could cost a chunk for tshirts and printing to begin with and hopefully all sale. If you get proceeds first then tshirts then have event, you've paid for tshirts from funds, earned funds from sign up and volunteers and hopefully you end up with profit for next venture/ fundraiser to support it. Like they say, it takes money to make money . You also have cost of tax I'd which will take 4-6 weeks to approve. The only other way around that is if the mayor is starting to get involved is to ask him for
support and provide the volunteers and see if the city will do it on their dime with your added support until your org is in
place. Don't hesitate to request a meeting with the mayor and discuss issues. That's what they are there for. My ex's
grandfather and my step children's grandfather are both mayors and really great people who are willing to listen and especially willing to shine in their community.

Still looking into 5013c vs others depending on how things will be ran and if lobbying, etc...there are fine details that I am still researching to find the best fit.

Ladies, what a wonderful thing you're doing! I am honored to have been able to see this from it's fruition, a school paper. Becky, you rock! I will pray for you and yours daily that this is an amazing sucess!
Will you obtain your 501 (c)? Not for profit? It allows for many tax and government credits. Wow, I'd really love to see this on a national or world level.
I wish you all good things in this venture! Becky, keep rockin school, lady, if this is just the beginning, I can't wait to see your next idea/paper...
Best of All Things,
Katie

What happened to ereryone? Did they all bolt on us? Maybe we should name it Becky and Becky.lol just kidding. I'm sure once things are sorted they will come back out. It takes work you know.

Still stuck on this damn Internet thing. Found 4 glte that can be hard wired Ethernet and allow video conferencing which I hope they will allow otherwise it's ipdn business account at 605. A month and I don't think they are gonna want to go for that. I know I don't.

C.A.R.E chapters ... community helping where it is needed.. guessing why you ran with the idea of having a representative from each state. Cleaning up city, groceries for the homebound elder, standing by the schools to protect kids safety, running fundraisers for scholarships.. hmmm what else?

Beckxy's picture

(talking amongst myself) lol

Beckxy's picture

Perhaps something that would be small to start is make a commitment for every Sunday morning to be 'city clean up day'... make a logo... make some shirts... get ppl involved from the college... start with the playgrounds and parks first.... wouldn't cost much but a t-shirt.

Beckxy's picture

brought this 'for the first time' to my husband tonight to get his input on it. He thinks 'with anything'.. need to start out small.. make a difference in the community.. show a presence.. and it will build... build it from the bottom up... show people you care and we will get support and people to stand with. From the looks of it... it's already starting with our Mayor finally making a presence... how wonderful is that :)

Beckxy's picture

well I'll be damn... I saw this on our local news tonight.. google.... Reading mayor, church leaders call for end to violence in city schools... my local news channel WFMZ did a report of Mr. Mayor and others coming out and CARING !!! Notice he said CARE ; ) I should start getting my poster boards ready and standing next to them.

Ok, I sent Sandra a message andvwill wait to hear back. I also let her know I plugged her org so ifmanyone is interested it is W.I.N woman in need and let her know if we could get her help that once we get going we may be able to help some of the woman with there education- win win situation, pun intended. I sure if we scratch her back , she would definitely scratch ours. She would likely help anyways without strings attached because that's just who she is but it never hurts to throw a little in. Ok now back to getting Internet service. Talk amongst yourselfs and I'll be back!

rjl1969's picture

I'm going to see if I can contact Ms. Sandra Stanley, my friend who runs W.I.N. Since she is on my Facebook and see if I can get some suggestionsnfrom her. She isnthe most dear and beloved person I know. God sent her as a true Angel. She's always willing to lend a hand. She and her daughter have voices like Angels and her daughter made it all the way to meet Simon on American Idol. We were rooting for her but she didn't make despite her beautiful voice. She did make a cd though. Sandra stay busy so Iit may take a little to get her. She is a respiratory therapist who was a marketer and she doesn't work now. She just does her org work. What a blessing. She starting with little to nothing and was tested greatly because the house she used for the girls, I think was inherited from her grandmother and wasn't on a great side of town and needed a new roof and while the guys were putting a new roof on it, for which she had to get a loan, they didn't cover the roof and it rained and damaged so much and she could afford insurance so had to slowly refix everything. Of course shenhired cheap labor and they didn't have insurance either.but she stood her ground and proved herself through the test and hung in there and whallah! , she has a wonderful org that has helped many. Many of the girls in the program volunteer themselves in the store or driving to cut costs and plus they can putnit on a resume. What a blessing.

Wow, just read the previous post. That's great. So many that I have seen have post traumatic stress disorder and end up with a psychiactirc disorder and end up homeless on the street. It's really sad that we don't have the care for our vets that we need. I just wrote 2 letters to Kay Bailey , to the Senate and Congress urging them nit to increase costs for Tricare health insurance for our vets and no to sell there coverage to one of these HMO's because then it may even harder for them to get the care they need. I did it for my deceased grandfather whomis a sergeant and all the vets and active military men and woman who have fought or are fighting for our country now. I turn on the tv and see people holding anti American signs in protest in Lybia and Syria and think, bless us Lord because it's probably going to take a deep dive before it gets better. That's why I urge people to look at legislation before voting or saying I'm a republican or democratic just because it's something they have always heard and don't reall understand . They have to realize that we also do not truly vote for our president give the electoral etc....what to do, what to do?

rjl1969's picture

You will have to wait to get your nursing liscence and 5 years of acute care/ bedside nursing. I have 17 years as nurse and 13 of those as a Case Manager and the case manager experience is what they are requiring. It took me a long time to get a position at home and for an insurance company but with everyone having to get insurance there has been a boom and they need a lot of nurse. Sometimes they will let social workers do it but it's rare. Some are grandfathered in from working acute care and being crossed trained to review charts. There are so many new job titles being created and it's constantly changing. I was going to open a consulting firm but realized I need just a few more years and more research but I can go to work for a firm. There's just so many opportunities in this field and that's why I got in it. Hang in there because it will...change your life.

Beckxy's picture

lol RJ... def baby steps here too ; ) The KR foundation does accept donations by way of the addy on it's site. I found that out last December with making a small donation. oh yea.. I hear ya on the hipaa stuff.. i had been training as compliance manager before I lost the job last year. Thought about taking up what you are doing actually :)

I need to head out so that I can do some work... but I have to share this lil story with you of what I encountered today. As I was looking at this ucswf site on my work's computer... two guys come walking in to the lobby. One looked to be in his mid 50s.. the other looked to be 60+. The younger looking guy asks about a room.. and if we have a military discount.. and I'm like.. well of course. He says he's getting a room for the other guy.. who seemed to be a lil out of sorts. Anyway.. I'm checking him in.. and all the while.. I'm listening to the guys talk.. the younger guy says.. now make sure you get a good shower in tonight.. and then asks me if he can have the room for an extra hour because the VA social services is coming to pick him up tomorrow and what not. What I got was the younger guy was doing something for the older guy. Anyway.. I give them the key.. and direct them to the room.. told them about the morning continental breakfast.. and they go on their merry way. So, I go back to reading this website. Then about 5 mins later the younger guy comes back in and says... He probably won't be a problem.. but I need to tell you that he is a homeless vet and was living out in the woods for a very long time.. took him to the clinic so he could clean up a lil, and get a shave.. and wanted to make sure he had a place to stay for the night. He hands me a card which reads: Veterans making a Difference... Helping homeless veterans and veterans in need. he's a Sgt US Marine.. with places that he served like Vietnam tunnel rat and Beruit, and Grenada.. and his wife, SFC US Army, Saudi Arabia, Bosnia, and Iraq. I managed to keep it together and told him thank you. But... maaan, did that ever so touch my heart and I teared up when he left.
