Kid Rock Boosts Paul Ryan in Michigan
Email 15 Smaller Font Text Larger Text | Print

BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. – Paul Ryan had quite the special guest at his fundraiser Friday night: Romney supporter and rock star Kid Rock.

The Michigan native, who sings Romney’s campaign theme song, “Born Free” appeared on stage with the vice presidential candidate.

“I was going to come out, be a little wisenheimer and say, ‘Guess which one is running for vice president?’” Kid Rock said, sporting his signature straw fedora. “And then, they would introduce Paul and I would walk out and say hello.”

That didn’t happen, but Ryan did name drop a song on Kid Rock’s album “Devil Without a Cause,” saying he’s been listening to him for a “long, long time and I am older than him, just to set the record straight.”

“So one of us is running for vice president, but only one of us listened to ‘Bawitdaba’ on the way over here in the motorcade with the Secret Service,” Ryan said.

“We take pride in people’s success, we don’t resent people for being successful in this country,” Ryan said, referring to Kid Rock. “Look at this creator right here – the fruit of his labor coming from his mind, his talents. He took his path to find his happiness, and he is realizing his dreams and he is paving his way. Only in America can you do this. That is what this country is all about.”

One hundred sixty people attended the event, according to the campaign, and there were three tiers of tickets to attend the events at the Oakland Hills Country Club in Romney’s hometown. The general reception cost $500, a $2,500 donation got attendees a photo with the Wisconsin chairman, and $10,000 to $20,000 was the cost of the VIP reception, held at a private home in the area.

As both Romney and Ryan did at their joint event in nearby Commerce Friday morning, Ryan explained how important Michigan is to victory.

“It’s a pretty clean and straight story,” Ryan told the donors, standing in front of both an American and Michigan flag. “We have a really clear choice to make. A handful of states are going to determine the outcome of this. Michigan is one of them. And the decisions we make, 16 electoral votes you pledge, they will very well determine the kind of country we are going to be and the kind of people we are going to be for a long time.”

Kid Rock will also perform at next week’s Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla.

Angel, I could tell where Gary was coming from on the things I mentioned..I do like that in most instances he would 'let the states decide.'..I'm not interested in growing the Federal government any further.
The abortion and military spending stances I took are my own opinions. I don't want to see the US lessen our capabilities while so many other countries are increasing theirs; I'm just not comfortable with that. We can lessen our presence in places we no longer need to be, that is fine.
The gay issue has never bothered me.
I don't know enough about the effects/repercussions surrounding the legalization of drugs in a country as large as the US to make a change in that direction. I would have to do more research. My only experience with drug legalization was in Amsterdam, and it was a little freaky. Obviously, the drug wars are out of control, and I understand that.
Anyway, that is where I was coming from.

Angel aka KRA's picture

KRVAL... I totally supprt our military but lets face it. We have been accomplishing very little there for a huge expense that we just dont have.. Gary wants to bring them home and spend the money on taking care of the the injured and the families. Support the vetrans. As for as legalization of weed. Its more about the millions spent on the drug wars and imprisoning american citizens for consumption of a plant that is infinitly less destructive than alcohol.. He doesnt promote the use of weed, he just doesnt want to keep spending billions to fight a useless and loosing battle.. as far as his stance on abortion and gay marriage, he doesnt believe itx the federal governments job to decide. regardless of his personal choice and in my opinion thats how all politicians should be.. They need to follow what the people want not what they personally want.

Ive been thinkin the same thing an entire whole new "Party" should B created/implaminted, Maybe call it "Rookie Doo"

curt_6's picture

i never said i love obama, but i do think he is the lesser of 2 evils,i dont hear him bashing or even complaining abot the mess he inherited,if these two parties could try to work together maybe something could be done.when one party who runs the house and the other runs the senate, they fillabuster each other, simply because its the other parties idea, racism in a different aspect.look at all the money spent campaining trash talking each other.nothing can be accomplished this way.we would have a third party if some of the younger thinkers could afford to get their platforms out there, and get rid of some of the old boys club[incumbants].dont matter to me either im a redneck hillbilly and a country boy can and will survive.my house is paid for no kids[which im sorry but thankful for]i know how to raise a garden, make moonshine and raise beef and have horses.hope that they never decide to point their guns at canada, like they do everyone else.

Oh and

I love Obama Too!!

But Im Canadian so It dont matter

curt_6's picture

just dissapointed kr would take either side in this debacle, but this didnt start 4 years ago it started 12 years ago, when our prez gwb took us to war against a man and country that he misled the american people into thinking had committed a terrorist act against us to get revenge for misunderstandings between hussein and his father.all the while attention was diverted from the real culprit making bin laden much stronger, costing us dearly as we still fight for security that possibly could have been resolved quickly,as in all minor conflicts before.i think its time we take care of our own.but the rich warmongers get ritcher and the poor just stay poor.thank god i dont have children that will have to live thru this.god bless.

agreee Shirlee - :)))
ps - there are def some non-negotiables in life. That is the main one. You know believe it or not, I use to be democrat, changed when I felt a sway in the party I didn't agree w/. ( My attorney friend says I was always republican, just didn't know it.) But... our democrat friends, not here on KR, but outside circle of life long friends are always saying democrat way is "the right too".... so I simple ask since that is the basis for pretty much all of my outside buds, maybe here too. If it is, I simply ask... remember your own words... that right too thing it should run two ways then.
I think moral are non-negotiables, one nation under God, is priority ... for me too.
Gas double, groc, doing away with the National Day of Prayer meeting w/ Billy Graham here in Chlt asking for his support... of which he got the opposite. I think that is where folks need to agree to disagree & hopefully are able to do that without a bunch of hurt here :)))

1bbshirlee's picture

We will as long as we stand One Nation Under GOD.

Bobbie Jean_2's picture

The right to ... well, thank God we still live in a Country where that is a two way street, respectively so, hopefully anyways :)

I just love Bob

That Is All.

MissPriss, I can see that we have very similar concerns. Rebuilding our own country, educating our population, and taking care of the elderly and poor are things I care about..I believe we can still do these things, and have a strong military. I feel it is imperative to protect what we have. Think of what would happen to the global economy if we did not have the capability of monitoring seaways, for instance. I think the thing we disagree on is the way in which these things can be accomplished. Growing government is not going to help nor solve these issues, which has been our President's solution from Day One. Big government not only kills innovation and entrepreneurship, but creates a sense of entitlement (IMO)
I completely agree with you..good paying jobs are my #1 concern! As small business owners, we want to be able to grow our business, create more jobs, give raises, pay for benefits. The uncertainty that President Obama has created in the small business venue has caused owners not to invest...for instance, Obama signed the Frank Dodd bill, which is crippling the ability for small banks to lend money to us.. we need to reinstate the Glass-Steagall Banking Act. Unfortunately, some of the things you mentioned as not working (tax rate cuts, deregulation, and I'll add healthcare) are current and real concerns for small business owners.
I guess it boils down to where one's personal concerns lie, but I will add that I am very scared for our country. If we continue down this path of 'the worst economic conditions in 40 years', not only will the US's funk continue, but it will be a Global Funk/Failure. I'm not willing to take a chance on this.
Truthfully? I truly and sincerely wish President Obama had been successful these past 4 years...heck, we've suffered because he hasn't. But he has not. Someone Help US.

1bbshirlee's picture

I think this whole world is a big ponzzy scame,.we teach manner, respect and non vilance yet keep and utilize several militarys: Over the last four years Ive lost half my credit, pay almost twice as much for gas and now food becaues of gas prices and lost a vital state benifit: I dont have to vote. I know my state well and is up to a select few which I fully support..

misspriss's picture

Thanks for the reply KRCVAL...I understand the economic mess our country is facing, I really do. I understand the spending is out of control, I really do. I spend way too much time reading political news when I can't sleep. I just can't understand how lowering taxes and getting rid of regulations, which is the only plan I've heard from Mitt, is going to help. These two things have been done, clearly it's not a plan that works. Good paying jobs would solve so many of our problems, if low taxes and no regs created good jobs, we would have a booming economy with jobs for anyone who wanted to work. I just can't understand why defense spending is more important than rebuilding our own country or educating our own children or taking care of the elderly and poor....I care about all people, it's a cruel world and America is becoming very cold to those who do work and can't get ahead no matter how hard they work. I constantly wonder where our country would be IF one side hadn't decided their ONLY mission was to destroy President Obama regardless of the destruction it could cause the entire country. I'll always be a Kid Rock fan, I love his music and his rebel attitude...I'm not at all happy with his choice for the presidency but I can overlook that.....

Thanks for the post, Angel. I hope things get better, soon!

Politics schmolitics...just seems silly to judge based on one's political choice. It really seems to box you in. Close your mind. It's the equivalent of not liking someone due to the type of cigarettes they smoke or because they have tattos. I wish I could understand. Seems very, "Pack Mentality" to me.

KRSVal's picture

MissPriss, I respect your opinion and your stance on remaining a fan.
It does trouble me that there is a perceived misconception about just what Romney will and won't do for the middle class/working poor. Let's face it, the top 1% will do just fine no matter who gets elected, right? Romney proposes a 20% income tax rate cut across the board, which will significantly help the middle class.

We MUST stop the out-of-control spending. I do not see that happening with Obama at the helm again. "The problem with spending someone else's money is that eventually, IT RUNS OUT!" (Margaret Thatcher)

misspriss's picture

I'm a big Kid Rock fan, a big fan....the last 5-6 years of my life have been very difficult and extremely depressing, life changing depressing. Playing his music is therapeutic and always cheers me up. Just to set the stage here, I've been to four concerts in my long life, one when my daughter was a child and wanted to see the NewKidsontheblock...one to see Leonard Skynard many years ago....and then my daughter gave me tickets to see Kid Rock in Jacksonville for my Christmas present, she worked hard for that money. I thought it was a waste and wanted her to sell them...she insisted she wanted me to have fun for just one night...we went and I loved it. I had fun, fun, fun....so much fun when I saw he was going to be in Atlanta, I sold some of my gold earrings so that she and I could go see him again. It was awesome, we had a so much fun....my point being, I don't have an extra penny but I did see two of his concerts and if he's ever in my part of the country again, if there's anyway I can go see him again, I will....

BUT I'm so disappointed that he's supporting Romney/Ryan....VERY disappointed. These two will do nothing for the working class, or poor or even the middle class. We can all agree or disagree about politics, but these two aren't a mystery. They intend to change America, not for the better if you aren't in the 1%.

Just a vent.... I'll still be a fan..... I'll still try to see him in concert in my part of the country if at all possible. But I'm very disappointed he's supporting Romney/Ryan. I do take comfort in the fact that he hasn't went off the deep end like hank, jr., even hank is entitled to his opinion too, his last outbursts about President Obama though, were very offensive, if these kinds of comments had been made by the dixie chicks towards GWB I fear what would have happened to them....

Just a vent, I'm very disappointed Bobby is supporting Romney/Ryan, they care nothing about working people....NOTHING.

KRSVal's picture

That was a very enlightening video on Gary Johnson, Angel. I actually agree with 90% of what he is backing. I LOVE his stance on economic policy and free-market capitalism.
Personally it scares me that he wants to cut military spending by 43%, but that kind of goes back to his libertarian background....I'm also not convinced where he stands with Irsael. I am pro-life, which he is not, and I don't back the legalization of drugs, but those are purely personal issues with me.
There are articles out that say the GOP is sweating about Ron Paul supporters showing up at the RNC--I don't know why. Gary's ideas and Ron's ideas feed right into most of what the Republicans want. Interesting that Ron Paul doesn't 'fully endorse Romney', but won't endorse Gary Johnson, either..I wonder if it is because of Johnson's pro-choice stance.
If I were out to make a statement, I would vote for Johnson in November. But I see the need for immediate change as so great, that I have to go with Romney because he has the best chance of getting elected to fix the economy. Something has to change because we are still suffering Bad here in MI.
It isn't going to be pretty for small business if Romney doesn't get elected. I have zero faith that Obama can fix the economy.

I've read some good articles about Gary Johnson, and he definitely has some good ideas and solutions.
One of the articles seemed to indicate that his demeanor/presence was passive, so maybe that is why he hasn't been able to get his message across more clearly or powerfully?

Angel aka KRA's picture

BTW Ive been republican all my life and this time I will be voting liberitarian GARY JOHNSON.
