Bob's former trainer supports Lance Armstrong doping....

Interesting perspective on Lance's situation. Also interesting connection, wasn't this the guy who trained Bob for the last tour? The paddle board to Belle Island expedition companion?

Always wondered Sheryl's take on this since she was so committed to Lance at one time. Bob's a mutual friend, followed the Tour de France, etc.

Hmmmm. Sure hope Bob's training focused on physical training and good nutrition, and didn't venture into anything else in effort to keep up with a brutal tour schedule. Laird seems to be very "open" to a lot of possibilities that are not good for you.....

    Laird Hamilton

    It's Okay
    If Lance Armstrong Cheated
    exclusive

Surfing legend Laird Hamilton thinks it's BS that Lance Armstrong got stripped of his Tour de France titles, but not because he thinks doping is wrong ... but because everyone was doing it.

Hamilton took the unusual position when our our photog bumped into him yesterday in Malibu ... saying he believes that if everyone is cheating in a sport, then it's "still an even playing field, it's still the best guy wins."

Hamilton also said he thinks the public coming down on athletes who are found to be cheating isn't right, saying, "I think it's a little bit of hypocrisy that we think these athletes are sterile people that are eating dry toast and then they're performing at these high levels. Rocket ships need rocket fuel to go to space. Athletes need the fuel they need to do what they need to do and let's be realistic about that."

The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency hit Armstrong with a lifetime ban yesterday and stripped him of his seven Tour de France titles after concluding he used performance-enhancing drugs. Armstrong maintains his innocence.

Dating back to as far as I can remember just about every country has found a way to get around doping. Even if you strip lance from his winnings, their is no one in line to accept that has not been accused or charged with doping, so what's the point. I remember in Germany the poor woman who were given what they were told vitamins, experimental they said, and they were not told they were steroids. Well half of them ended up men and the one who spoke out in rage was stripped of her winnings and her pictures taken down from the wall. We have no idea what these people go through and until I've personally walked in their shoes I will not judge. Anyone ever take b12 for extra energy? Well that's doping because it increases your red blood cell and hemoglobin allowing you to carry extra iron and oxygen to pump you up so to speak. Is that doping? It's a vitamin. 5 hour energy, no doze, extra vitamins? You see where I'm going?

Bart, my mistake, thanks for the correction.

Don't all athletes, whether professional or Olympic, sign contracts to participate that specify strict no doping clauses? If you join an organization, agree to the rules of play, then turn around break the rules and get caught, penalties apply.

Have no idea why the US Anti-Doping Agency took so long to bounce Lance if they had evidence dating back years. Definitely an odd situation, and there will probably be more information released in the future.

Leave both of them alone. Get a life. Better yet, just try and live theirs.

I my opinion, Armstrong probably doesn't want the Feds involved, so he just dropped the fight to lessen that possibility. After all our Justice Department is trying to protect us from those horribly rich evil baseball players like Sosa, McGuire, Clemens, Bonds, and whoever the guy was that originally wrote the book.

I remember an article of Kid working out with Laird and it being a hard workout - standing on golf balls in the pool comes to mind. I think it was just every once in a while when he is in L.A. I think Laird is part of that Malibu crowd that Kid hangs with along with Chelios (when he's out there) and I think Lance himself. Probably more when Lance was with Sheryl Crow.

Laird was not part of the Belle Isle paddle-boarding for the Comerica announcement. That was Chelios and Lidstrom from the Red Wings.

Wow! Thanks for sharing, I hadn't seen this. ABOVE ALL THINGS HONOR THY TEMPLE. People ask why, and then with total disregard put shit in their temple. Our bodies are not equipped to handle this burden without great repercussions. One day, some day, I hope we will get back to more simple healthful times. Rid ourselves of the latest greatest "pill "cure" and be well. Clearly our current methods are not working, sufficing, maybe, for the time being...but not working. The end financial cost of taking care of those who abuse the living fook out of their bodies will be our kid's to bear...just terrible.
As for Lance's situation, we don't know the half of it, so who's to say....

I don't understand why they strip all his awards. Can they prove he was doing whatever they say @ that particular time? Probably not. If they are gonna strip him of anything why is it not whatever one he was caught @? Makes very little sense is kind of like popping somebody on a piss test for something they did years ago if they are clean and sober and have been for who knows how long?

I do think cheating isn't right @ any point. Because in reality what did you achieve if you had to cheat to get it? Never understood the mind frame of cheating. You gain nothing because you didn't get it legitimately.

exactly d4evr.. the whole thing is ridiculous and a witch hunt.. God forbid someone could be as good as Lance Armstrong...

I will be the First to admit that I know NOTHING about the 'Rules' for Competition. But here is my personal ? Were these 'Regulators' Not Responsible to screen, define, evaluate and analyze and qualify / clear participants ..... each consecutive year? .... separately from the previous year?

just a thought.

So doping=fuel?
For me it boils down to a matter of character. What is good about lying about not doing it to win medals? Is the message then that it is Ok because 'everyone else is doing it' too? I wouldn't be able to live that lie if I were an athlete, but perhaps the 'champions' that dope are all used to that.

Angel aka KRA's picture

I agree with Laird. There will always be a new supplement. There will always be athletes trying to find an edge. They cant even find Lances replacement cause so many of them are also accused of steriods or whatever. You will never catch every inhancement drug used with new ones comeing out everyday. and half of them prolly dont even know for sure whats in their protein drinks, etc.... I think the whole thing is a farce.

KRSVal's picture

I guess you can rationalize it however you want, Laird, but it's still cheating and you don't deserve the award if you don't follow the rules. How can Lance sleep at night ugh
