Review: Kid Rock at Rock USA

Kid Rock is a show off.

Though many know the southern rock/hip-hop star as a vocalist, he displayed much more of his musicality during his performance at Rock USA in Oshkosh Saturday night. Besides singing, rapping and screaming, Kid Rock also played guitar, drums and piano at different parts of his show, held at Ford Festival Park. He even had his DJ take a break near mid-show, so he could scratch some records. Perhaps it was to show he is more than just a vocalist. Perhaps it was to enhance the performance. Perhaps it was just because he felt like it. Nonetheless, Kid Rock’s instrument shuffling was one of the more interesting aspects of his performance.

Thank you, Mr. Thiel, for showing your initial journalistic bias in your first written words. I appreciate your honesty. A show off is a person given to pretentious display, meaning they’re pretending or putting forth a false profession or an unwarranted claim. I believe your term inapplicable. Kid Rock shared his self-taught artistic abilities, when in addition to his live ‘in pitch’ vocals which ‘matched the tone of his recordings,’ he showed ‘the crowd his music skills by playing almost every instrument onstage’ & worked ‘the turntables,’ which he’s been doing since he was 11. He taught himself an impressive 20 musical abilities, thus his dedication, tenacity, intelligence, & natural God-given talent speak loudly to disprove your opening statement. For those who follow, support, & love Kid Rock, not only for his soul-filled artistry, but also for his action-backed patriotic, business, & philanthropic beliefs, his swagger is not surprising at all; but I will agree, it is smooth. As a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist & rapper, Kid Rock, with countless awards & honors to his name, has sales (unaided by iTunes) earning him 6 Platinum album certifications with over 23 million (& growing) albums sold. On his numerous recordings, he played many instruments himself, so, as a man of character & integrity, why wouldn’t he match his recording tones for his fans that paid their hard-earned money for the opportunity to see him live? He’s been touring since 1989 & still, over & over again, his fans clamor for more. The caliber of his talents has also not gone unnoticed by his peers as he inducted Mr. Bob Seger, Aerosmith, & Lynryd Skynyrd into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame while he, himself, is slated to be inducted in 2015. By the end of your article you recognized Kid Rock’s multi-talented & multi-faceted artistry admitting the show-ending confetti provided “the perfect capstone of a star powered evening.” Thank you. I appreciate your willingness to grow & learn.

Appears you schooled a few about the breadth & depth of your exquisite artistry…way to go, Mr. Ritchie!!! Hell yeah!!! Loved all the pictures!!! I’m not FANCY, only a dancing lady, but sounds like the opening riff, plus drumming & singing Cat Scratch Fever, were impressive. I am impressed, touched, and amazed. Thank you, Mr. Ritchie…you certainly did ROCK USA!!!
