‘Sellebrity’ Documentary Lets Aniston, Lopez & More Make The Cast Against Paparazzi

Making a splash at its SXSW premiere earlier this year, Sellebrity is a documentary about the pervasiveness of paparazzi and the cultural effects that come from our constant consumption of others’ fame and fortune. With interviews from Jennifer Aniston, Marc Anthony, Jennifer Lopez, Elton John, Kid Rock, and more, the doc seems equally interested in trying to answer the questions of why people are so obsessed with celebrities and what effect that has on those targeted by it. Take a look at the trailer below!
Listen, I’m not a fan of paparazzi and their tactics at all, but from the look of it, this documentary seems to be telling the story only from the celebrity side of the lens and not giving the photographers a fair shake. Sure, they explain their actions a bit in the trailer, but they end up coming off as miserable human beings (maybe they are, I don’t know) and it seems to me that the story might be more effective if they humanized the “villains” a little bit instead of just making them overtly evil.
Sellebrity is currently looking for a distributor and is playing in the film festival circuit around the world, so we’ll have to wait and hope someone is interested enough to pick this up (or give it a VOD release) so we can all check it out.

Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Lopez Sound Off on Paparazzi in New Doc $ellebrity
Thu., Jun. 21, 2012 3:49 PM PDT by Marc Malkin
Jennifer Aniston doesn't like them, and neither does Jennifer Lopez. Sarah Jessica Parker finds them "scary."
We're talking about what these A-listers and more have to say about the paparazzi and the tabloid press in $ellebrity, a documentary about celebrity culture that premiered at South by Southwest in March.
You can now check out some of the highlights in the doc's just-released first official trailer.

Crow talks about how her breakup with Lance Armstrong was handled while she battled breast cancer. Parker recalls photographers running after her on the streets of New York, while Lopez and Marc Anthony remember the helicopters hovering over their wedding.
Alec Baldwin isn't in the doc, but he'd be perfect to host a screening.
Even if it means showing up with a white blanket over his head.

It kills me when celebrities
It kills me when celebrities whine. Weren't they watching Debbie Allan pounding her stick on the ground, telling them, "FAME COSTS????!!!!"
Now, crazy stalkers stink, and are dangerous. But, they exist everywhere. You call these nuts to you when you decide to become a celebrity and sell a brand and image. Buy security. Use the court system.
You don't need to have the paps in your face if you avoid them, or tell your PR peeps to stop tipping them off on your whereabouts.
