Worst places to live for violent crimes
    ajay says (15 Jun '12)

Just was on Yahoo and it had a list of the most dangerous cities in America for violent crime. 5)Memphis, 4)Oakland, 3)St. Louis, 2)Detroit and 1)Flint topped the list. Scary part is i frequent St. Louis for concerts, entertainment etc. Not much in my poduck area. If you wanna see a show the places to see it are limited. Just went up on the 12th to see the Cards get beat by the White Sox and sit by an obnoxious fuck wearing a Sox's hat and shirt.

They did associate low income with it in all these cities. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out. People don't have jobs, no income, etc they get a bit edgy? You don't say. THEN STOP fucking buying shit made in other countries. I worked for a company that was Japanese owned and figured that one out. They continue to grow and prosper because they buy only from Japanese company's. They would spend x amount of dollars to have it flown in from Japan when they could buy it a fuck ton cheaper from someone else. Yet the Japanese own a big ass chunk of this country and nobody can figure out why? Myself i would pay a buck or two more for a tshirt, or a quarter more for a vegetable that came from California instead of Mexico, Taiwan etc. I ain't made of money but i understand economics. Could i afford to do that with everything? Probably not.

We as American's need to start bitching to get business here if we have to. I work in medical and am furthering my education in it, but the fact remains that even in medical it will get worse when the regular man ain't working and paying into the system. There is only so much welfare, medicare, medicaid etc. Trust me i see abuse of those benefits on a shiftly basis as well. I see ppl come to ER for shit they should have went to the doctor for. Dragging their fucking kids in when they should have went to the doctors office. All to get out of a $2 copay. Now that would make sense if they didn't have a pack of cigarettes or something like that they wasted a bit more then $2 on. That or they blew it some other way. Yes i know welfare doesn't pay much, but are you gonna let your baby be sick or you gonna fork over $2 to a doctor to get them seen? Most choose neither and drag that kids ass into ER late at night to get out of a co-pay. Now don't get me wrong. If it is 3 am early Sunday morning and your kid has been sick all night with an ear ache or something that didn't occur during normal hours where they can be seen i get it. Or say they lay their foot open on glass playing out in the yard and it is Saturday afternoon i don't expect them to wait for Monday to come around.

I ain't saying the root to all evil is lack of money but it does play a helluva role. I guess i can count my lucky stars as i am in medical and going further and be thankful to god i am doing good so far. But i would say the lack of money can be the devil in disguise....For those who can't find work i pray you do. For those who do have work be thankful...and for those not capable i wish you were...I ain't a hater but some shit makes me think like that Yahoo article...

Flint topped the list....that's wild....I was born there but my parents moved us to Texas when I was pretty young. I still claim Michigan as my home and I still have family there. I can't believe Flint was #1. I had no idea.....OMGoodness! I think you are right....buy American!
Take Care & Rock On

Ajay - I always forget to mention until I sign off... so while I am thinking of it. Thank you for bringing to mind about folks acting freaked out, cause folks so stressed out. With this in mind, hopefully we can all cut one another some slack on the roads, in the groc store lines, etc.
Goodluck w/ the medical field endeavor! :)))

You look like you have a good ground work of folks experienced, and available to call in if emergency, which is always good.

Those always are generally the first to change. I have a friend that flipped for a few yrs in Florida. That's the only thing, all my Family that has experience or my best friend Jessie are here in the carolinas or Florida. But ... that is why God made skype... right???
Gotta go cook Dad's Father's Day Dinner now! :)))

I'd help you pick out all the replacement stuff at salvage and such....love tile so bathroom and kitchen and laundry room would be my faves.

Well, if I could get the US air, CSR job, I might have super flight deals, so even if for a few week ends, maybe you could. Wouldn't that be so cool and fun! :)))

LOL, one of my dreams too. Too bad I don't live closer would sure love to watch and help when possible.

I'd get my real estate license as soon as I settled in at Aunts. Gives you a real feel for the lay of the a land, and gets you out recognized and respected so folks will come to work for you first. Start subscribing to the newspapers and read them so you start learning what are the up and coming neighborhoods and which ones you need a bullet proof vest to eval the house, lol.

Blue I think you're right. This is what one of my dreams is. That's why I drive a truck. My friends laugh at me cause I drive a truck. They think it's funny, and I told everybody I am not selling it until I flip at least one house, once the purpose I bought if for is met, then I may. ( or may keep it cause the newer cars all of weird tracking devices on them and can be shut down remotely from what I understand. Reminds of a Sylvester Stalone and that girl that was married to Jessie the bike guy, movie, she one of my fav actresses I just can't remember her name.) I don't care if I just make a few thousand, I have to at least do one house. I have to say, the only place I even have a chance is Detroit or where Katrina hit and I don't have Family where Katrina hit. I do have an app in at us air there so who knows. good money, normal hours leaves time to do this or I can bring my Aunt into it, get enough to carry me and pay back out of house by house. I'm just hesitant to ask her, cause I feel like I am asking her for a favor rather than a business opportunity. I don't like that feeling. Once my part paid back, then I would have a profit. If I stay with my Aunt, I wouldn't have further expenses, so sounds perfect. And it actually does sound like a favor with all that... so who knows. I will check for that show. I use to watch the Home network non stop! Not so much lately, but I will find it. Yeah I don't like to make changes to the outside of the house, that is pretty much me. :) Thank you!!! :)

Bobbi Jean, you've seen that gal from Minnesota that has the remodeling/reno show on Home network? Great series. She sticks to the house's "inner age" and improves but does not change the character of the home? Does excellent design work. Love the way she and her peeps go about the process and the homes are to die for. Cannot think of the name of the show.
Something tells me that's your niche only in Detroit. Never overlook a complete and trustworthy engineering inspection prior so if things don't go your way you are covered.

Bobbie Jean_2's picture

Blue - that's what I was thinking. You can make as much as in other areas per house, but you also can't get started for as little in other areas as there. And if a little profit on multiple houses, starting with one of course, it could be a win win for buyer and seller. If it seemed to be something I could do, I could even set up something w/ lower income situations maybe, and help folks get into houses that may not otherwise be able to. If I get financial backing, I am doing it. At least one just to see. :) Have a great day Blue! :)))

Yep, Diana. America works that way, and I benefited too. Until weird stuff started happening, and an MRI diagnosed MS. Welcome Social Security Disability.

Of all the things you need to plan on, it's how you and yours will be provided for in an emergency, or God forbid, unforeseen medical problems which prevent you from working.

Bobbie Jean, thinking flipping is a great way to make good money. If you know your contractors (lots of them), can hard line a deadline, and a deal. Such a great way to reinvest in the community too.

I hope they didn't spend thousands of dollars to fund the research for the article?! I get frustrated with those people who "bleed" the system and whine about their tough up bringings for the reasons they turned out the way they did. If you didn't like how/where you grew up........pick yourself up, dust yourself off and work, work, work to make a better life. I put myself through college twice; no handouts from the State of Michigan or US government. I worked, I saved, I took out loans which I am still paying off. Because I wanted BETTER for myself and my family and knew the only way to do that was to make an investment in myself. No matter how hard the work is, no matter how much you want to just sit down an cry some days; there is light at the end of the tunnel. I have a great job now and a career that I love (animal medical field; I am licensed veterinary technician/like an "animal RN") I understand that poverty breeds violence; don't need a study to tell me that. But, I wish the news media could stop crapping on Detroit. "My Detroit" has been one of fun concerts, restaurants, sports events and street parties. "My Husband's Detroit" was one of gang violence, drive by shootings, drugs, prostitutes, broken families. He works with in organization that tries to help troubled youth and their familes with counseling, high school education and job training. He is no longer based in Detroit; although the organization is still there. The 5 years that he worked in the Livernois area almost killed him (literally AND figuritively)

well, I one thing I will be grateful for today and that is that at least I am not in an ER room. :)))
I hear ya Ajay, you make sense. I hate the free trade thing. I wish it was eliminated.
I can't always buy in USA but when I have a choice, I will buy less just to see the made in USA tag. It makes me happy!
:)))

I was thinking of asking my Aunt to back me in flipping houses, she funds, I work, we split. I thought Detroit would be a good start for money reasons. I would already have a place to stay, her house just outside there... hmmmm.

Most folks end up in the emergency room with Medicare/Medicaid benefits because they can't find a physician who will accept the program. So they wait until they can't stand it anymore and trudge in for triage. Try calling around for a new generalist or specialist, and tell them you are on Medicare.....

Ajay - I think some of the reason people end up at the ER vs. the doctor is ignorance. They don't really understand their options. Hopefully you can help educate them as they come in. I don't see anything wrong with letting them know that it is something they can see their doctor for.

Personally, my co-pay is $20, but going to the ER is like going to the DMV for me....I avoid the hell out of it - if I can.

I am thankful for my health, being employed, and having the benefits that I do. I am also thankful that my HARD work in life has paid off.

Where I live I am trying to always buy and spend local. All of the national chains have come in and dried up the money for the local guys. I promote this to my friends and family and try to make them understand why we need to spend a little bit more at the local grocery store vs. a box store.

Thanks for sharing. I love St. Louis too. I have a step-brother and nephew that live there, so I get down there every couple of years.
