I been hitting on a lot of rap lately. Been listening to a lot of Haystak and starting to listen to Jelly Roll. More the underground basement movement. It seems to be a lot more real to me then so much of crap on radio. Not sure if you guys are into anything other then Kid Rock, but i figured i would gamble in the fact that you can't listen to Kid Rock 24/7 365. Man i don't think either Haystak or Jelly Roll are fake in the least. They are hardcore and real and i like that.
I have a friend that has bounced in and out of prison and i watch what he listens to because for some reason he hits on this good rap shit and surpasses the fake ass shit. He also can hook you up with some of the best ink that can go on your skin. I stood by him through his last county stint and pen stay. Kept his tat gear safe for him so he had a start when he got out. That is what i am talking bout a "friend" when i say a friend. Still owes me paper i loaned him. Still haven't got it but i know if and when i want ink he will do it til we are square so i don't sweat it.
Anyway what else do you guys listen to besides Kid Rock? I also listen to lots of 80's bands some make new material nowadays, some pop/rock, underground rap, rock, some country and all kinds of shit.
I don't limit what i listen to by what other ppl will think, say or feel. I don't give a fuck if it something that other ppl don't like. If i like it i listen to and go see it live when possible...Limitations only hold you back....

I misnamed the band, although
I misnamed the band, although I like happy Monday's , the band I was thinking of is the tragically hip. There's another song that I can barely remember that said something like standing at the top of a bridge, just to see how far down it really is. Might be the song Cordelia . I'll have to look that one up.
Im digging on this chick from
Im digging on this chick from the D.........Porcelain And The Tramps
Ever hear of Happy Mondays
Ever hear of Happy Mondays Louisiana's sinking and man I don't want to swim. Cage the elephants there ain't no rest for the wicked, money don't grow on trees, I got bills to pay and mouths to feed, there ain't nothing in this world for free. Love that one. Oh, girl song- four non blonds- can't think of the name but it goes ... Twenty five years of my life and still trying to get up that hill of hope to the destination. So I realized quickly when I knew I should that the world was made of that brotherhood of man for the destination. And so I try, I try all the time in this institution, and I pray, oh my God do I pray this, I pray for a single day in this revolution. So I wake in the morning and I step outside and I take a deep breath and I get real high and I scream to the top of my lungs what's going on. And I say hey, yeah, yeah, yeah, I said hey yeah, yeah, yeah, what's going on. Love that one. What about Jim sewler? And the monkey beat. They had some good stuff. Just a few not so well known bands. Was Billy Squire really gay cause if he was damn what a waste just doing the stroke. Who was that who sang might as well face it your addicted to love. Oh the good old days when MTV just started and there was actually music. Remember video killed the radio star, the cars, shock the monkey, oh Mickey , devo- they were some weird shit but I can't help think.... And you may ask yourself , how did I get this beautiful wife, letting the days go by, see the water flowing ... Can't remember the words but it was strange, same as it ever was, same as it ever was. Lol. How bout shock the monkey or Phil collins playing a one man band. Oh and I'm getting ink done and ask for 13 and they give me 31, give it to me baby, uh huh, uh huh, give it to me baby, uh huh, uh, huh. Ok I'll stop rambling now. Before that it was the sooouull train. That was some good shit.
I've been digging another
I've been digging another homeboy, Jack White, formerly of the White Stripes/Raconteurs (he's got a new solos album out). Lives in Nashville now, but born and bred in Detroit..
Anyone catch his show at The Masonic recently?
I had seen Kracker a couple
I had seen Kracker a couple of times but after seeing him at The Machine Shop, and then again on the cruise, I have to say I now really enjoy his songs. His last concert on the boat was inexplicable but I still loved it. Am looking forward to another concert soon.
As for my iPod, I must have adult ADD because my music taste is all over the place.
Guess Im one of the younger
Guess Im one of the younger ones lol...
I listen to alot of Three Days Grace and Hollywood Undead lately, mixed in with J Cole when I want good hip hop
Haystack though? IDK about real, maybe if you call a decent white rapper who CONSTANTLY tries to diss Eminem for attention real.
Anyone ever hear of this band
Anyone ever hear of this band called "Full Devil Jacket" ? Back in the late 90's/early 2000's---they had this song called "Where Did You Go?" OMFG that song is KILLER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey Ajay. I listen to mostly
Hey Ajay. I listen to mostly Kid Rock....sometimes Uncle Kracker, Brantley Gilbert & Jason Aldean, Eric Church. Somethin' about those bad boys LOL. I like the Redlight King too. Some Rehab (The Bartender Song), Match Box 20....The Lacs....Big Smo....and a few more. Really love music. Take Care & Rock On.
Mmmm, mmmm, mmm.
Mmmm, mmmm, mmm.
Hey, I have listen to Kid in
Hey, I have listen to Kid in my new challenger RT for a month straight. The music goes so well with my car. They are both American badass's. Can't get enough but I did listen to Steve Millers wild mountain honey.ahh Calgon take me away. So methodical, melodically original, hipnotical , and way soothing.
Ajay, some people I know tell me that they think my car only plays Kid Rock but I do listen to other music too I like a lot of different artist my first concert was in the late 70's Ted Nugent, Van Halen, ac/dc, Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top 60's & 70's rock but I also like country and blues too Waylon, Pasty Cline, Bonnie Raitt, John Prine, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Clapton, John Meyer, Zac Brown Band. Sheryl Crow.
Angelique !! Hey sweet lady.. how have you been? I luv ya too : ) Can I just say that it was quite a suprise runnin into you on the boat. Just as beautiful in person, as on here : ) Thanks for commenting on my story... talk about Waylon.. I love his song 'wurlitzer prize (I dont wanna get over you)'. Willie and Norah Jones did a fine rendition of it, a good few years back. I forgot to mention an up and coming I'm finding that is very talented, and who has a song out with Eminem that I'm liking, Bruno Mars.

couldn't finish without making a new post cuz I used up all the characters to type..lol
I was a MAJOR Guns n Roses fan.. not so into Bon Jovi or Poison.. I loved Cinderella due to their rock fused with blues influence. ACDC, Metallica.. when 'Justice for all' came out.. and I heard 'One'.. I had to go back and get all the previous albums. I was into Dr. Dre and Snoop, Biggie and Tupac... the Beasties. Loved Limp Bizkit.. in fact.. I heard they have a new album out.. and wanna hear it.
After we saw Kid Rock in 99 for the first time... my interest in finding up and coming artist just bottomed out. Everything started to sound the same to me.. New Country.. didn't care for it. I do enjoy some of the cats in music mafia.. John Nicholson.. gotta go listen to 'Grandma's getting stoned' : ) killer keys man. Everything I listened to seemed to be a Kid Rock influenced.. started getting into Segar.. Uncle Kracker, Paradime.. Ty Stone. The rest I started going back into my roots.. thinking.. okay, I guess this means I'm getting old..lol Started going to some local bluegrass festivals.. was tuning into the Blues Music stations.
Now'a'days.. if it's anything country.. I like Shooter Jennings.. but after a few albums his stuff took a turn of the worse... which Leroy Powell was his guitarist at one time.. 'when it was good'.. so I can see why he's opening for Rock... They played 'Busted in Baylor Country'.. and that was a song that was off of Shooter's album ; ) I like Jamey Johnson.. and I'm dying to see him live. Colt Ford.. rather new.. and afraid nobody's gonna take him seriously.. but he's cool. As far as Rock goes.. Nickelback's good. I'm liking Adele... but that's about it for now..lol
Great thread... LOVE ANYTHING MUSIC !! Pops was a truckdriver and would bring home anything considered OUTLAW COUNTRY. Mom loved taking us kids to the firehalls.. where you could bring a kid in while adults drank and danced to the live oldies bands. Ah..the good ole days.. and don't think for one second that my brother and I didn't try to sneak a sip of some for of alcohol...lol
Blues, Guitars, and more Guitars.. My dad played guitar with a band back when he was in the Navy.. way before I was born. His main influences are the Ventures, Dwayne Eddy and Les Paul.. by the time I was 10.. he had the whole collection of Clapton.. Hendrix.. major guitar history to say the least. While pops always had on the 1969 Woodstock movie... My mom would put me in front of the television so that I could watch Coalminer's Daughter every other day..lol Then all those Jerry Reed songs that came out of the Bandit movies. If it had a truckdriver in the movie or if it was a movie based on music... it was on. Then the Blues Brother's movie was on a thousands times.. where I learned to shake a tail feather and sing Ms. Franklin's think..lol We had every soundtrack you could imagine.. including Crossroads, and Clockwork Orange..lol Not that this thread is about movies.. but yah... the house was always full of music... whether it was coming from a movie, a radio, the neighbor's radio, a record player, or my dad playing to us... LOTS of influences Not to mention television shows back then... the safest one to say.. Duke's of Hazzard, Hee Haw, The Fall Guy, and Bj n the Bear. Shit.. I even had to look up a Marty Robbins song 'Put your arms around this honky tonk man'.. and this was all before I actually grew into my teens and found my own music to love.
When I grew into my own... I had friends from both sides of the tracks. The ones that liked rap and then the ones that like metal. I ended liking both : ) I could go on and on.. but I'm running out of characters to type
I like and listen to a lil bit of Everthing, and Alot of KidRock!
Edit to my Jovi comment below-I didn't realize Jon Bon stopped by Chicago 3/8 and 3/9--it was off my radar b/c I was out of town (we still missed ya in Detroit)
We're mostly old school in this house. Listening to Cream of Clapton right now. Love Fleetwood Mac. ( a really good concert...drummer is awesome). I grew up listening to Ted Nugent, ZZ top, Skynard, Led Zepplin, Jethrow Tull, Doobie Brothers, Steve Miller, Moody Blues etc.. My husband loves the more mellow and harmonizing groups like Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Cat Stevens, Mamas and Papas, Donovan and Eagles. Also love The Beatles, Elton John and Aerosmith. So, I guess my kids had a good mix of music to grow up on. They call us old hippies! ( I resent the old part). Don't even know most of the groups they listen to now. Also listen to some of the new country...Jason Aldean, Eric Church, Chesney and Underwood. Interesting read. Thanks
@RSMS, I would have LOVED to have seen Kid do that in Chi-town. I was lucky to see Kid do some of Wanted on 3/17/10 at the Bon Jovi Palace show (DEtroit Cowboy...he hee) Actually, I'm a little upset at JBJ and the boys for not coming back to Detroit this time around--and I don't even think they are doing Chicago this summer, either.
Ajay, I like different kinds of music also. It really depends on my mood. I flip around a lot on Sirius radio- listened to Prime Country today. I even love Johnny Mathis (my sister listened to him-lol) I do listen to some classical (my hubby has it on at night), Celtic, and Italian opera (hubby is Italian, so I go with the flow.)
As cheesy as it sounds when i am upset about something i can usually put on Matchbox20 Yourself or Someone Like You and it calms me down. It has been that way for awhile. Very mellow, very calm, chilling vibes i get from that cd. I have wore the hell out of it over the years too. I love me some pop @ times. Some old school Madonna in Like Virgin days. Old B52's shit, Cyndi Lauper, Talking Heads, Thompson Twins, Michael Jackson, Peter Gabriel, Annie Lennox, etc.
I get into old Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn my grandma used to crank them and dance around in the kitchen while cooking while i was growing up. Definitely got into Seger, Journey, Foreigner, Def Leppard through my brothers and still listen to them all to this day. Got into Motley in my early teens through a friend. Got into a lot of 80's bands when i was 12 or 13 through my buddies older brothers cassettes. I only wish when i was young i had more money i would have checked out so much more of that era. Went through a few metal years heavy metal that is like Slayer, Anthrax, Megadeth etc. Then i had rap years which i seem to be revisiting now. Honestly over they years i have hit on just about every kind of music and liked it except classical and opera. I did enjoy what Randy Rhodes was doing fusing metal and classical would have loved to have see what he would have done had he not died in that plane crash i think it would have been phenominal. Like outlaw country nowadays as well as Hank, Waylon, Johnny Cash, Merle and the whole lot of them.
forgot to add Carole King's, "Tapestry" album. One of my favs when I want to be mellow.
Wish I could have been at the Chicago Bon Jovi concert where Kid opened and did, "Turn the Page." So fitting for him to do Seger since it's basically his life, too. Love my Detroit boys.
Love what you wrote, Angelique--'Turn The Page' really does say it all, doesn't it, for the touring artist...
That and 'Wanted, Dead or Alive', lol
Altho JBJ has said that Turn The Page influenced him to write Wanted.
rite depends on the mood soothin the soul haha
i luv tesla ..
wow you just reminded me of a whole era i had left out lol
What a GREAT thread, Ajay :-)
I am a Music "junkie" so to speak----my absolute faves are Progressive Metal Bands from the 80's--such as--
Queensryche
Iron Maiden
Triumph--etc.
I was raised on OLD Country, Folk Music and Bluegrass--so i LOVE!!!!!!! that stuff too :-)
Newer Country bores me--unless it is REALLY GREAT--like--Alan Jackson--or Travis Tritt--wierdly
enough--they both sound like OLD Country :-)
And when i saw Jamey Johnson in Miami. DAMN. HE IS FRIGGEN AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!--But once again--he sounds like Waylon/George Jones--again--OLD Country :-)
I can listen to 80's old school rap--opera (in the right "GodFather" mood--lol) disco, or even Comedian renditions of songs---just depends on my mood
My kids loved Burning Down the House, and Take me to the River when they were babies. They loved Talking Heads. Now that they are older, I listen to their music, mostly alternative, and rap. My daughter really wanted to see Angels and Airwaves when she was 14, in downtown Detroit, I said only if I go with you, we went and had a blast. Now I love Angels and Airwaves and Blink.
luv haystack too
paradime is very real to me
would have never been exposed to dime if i wasnt a kid rock fan... so thanks for that one
i listen to all kinds of music been stuck on the 70s radio station
and have had paradime spill at will in the cd player LATELY. after i wore out born free , for a few months ,i religiously went back to polyfuze and emsp... luv your idea . i miss the storey tellin muzic that makes you feel like you are right there livin it.. thats the gem .. when ya feel it.. and nothing on the radio does that for me truely has been a while!1 revert to hank 1 2 and 3 lol just my small humble opinion means notta.
ohh one more thing
i was driving down the road thinkin of how hard kr and crew work . time away from family, the long nights and days , how difficult it must be to have a normal relationship and ya know as im thinking this.. BOOM
the radio i began listening to seger turn the page
having heard this song billion of times.. i really felt it , when i REALLY thought of it .. i got chills , how simply stated but you know this is blood sweat and tears they give every time they take the stage .. as hard as kr and crew work to please their fans ,, its a trippy thing..
i wondered what place in his life was he when that song was written very true, very powerful... makes me wonder and appreciate every show ,, hell any activity people give their hearts out to entertain ..
and as rough and gritty as these days are, songs that put you in the artists shoes, 8 think we starvin for the real stuff..
very few have that ability kr is up there with the legends!!
