Thoughts, Thanks, and DSO show review
    Beckxy says (16 May '12)

How does one even begin to give many thanks to such a wonderful and talented man? – a man of honor and integrity, a man with a huge heart, a man who has given such a beautiful gift to us all, just by strumming a guitar and singing into the mic.

How do we give thanks to a man that has made music to sooth our souls, take us out of a funk, rock our hearts out, and take us on-board the "Rock n Roll Pain Train".
How do we thank our hero, our brother, our bona fide music maker?

I’m not sure exactly… but my guess is we can start out by listening to the words in his songs, and believe in the power being good to each other. We can slap hands and high five the person aside of us at a show. We can offer up a couple of beers to the people in the car next to us at a pre-party tailgate. We can lend an ear to someone who’s having a bad day on the Kid Rock forum. We can join a Kid Rock fan charity group to reach out to a sick child. We can thank a soldier for their service. Yea…. I think that’s a good way to start giving thanks in honor of our man, being good to each other, and loving one another.

But then, how does one give thanks to the man when he does something extra special? When he goes above and beyond, and that something special was meant especially for you?

Please forgive me as my words may not come out right, as I’m often misunderstood. But, I’m still feeling quite in a daze which I may not come out of for a long time. My emotions have been running on high since Friday. But, in the best possible way that I can, I need to share a little of what happen over the course of this past weekend.

My husband and I had received a phone call on Friday from a very nice woman who explained to us that Kid Rock was combing thru the posts on the official website forum, and that he came across one of my posts that may have touched his heart. At the time, I wasn’t sure which post he was looking at because I do tend to post a lot, and I’ve had a lot of misfortunate things happen in my life over the past two years… from my mom being ill, to my work layoff, and just on this year's cruise I wasn’t able to get on the island and see the main show from being sick, so I was trying to figure out what he might of seen b/c I remember posting to friends about all of the above. But, she mentioned to me that he would like to do something special for us. He wanted us to choose a show and that he would take care of the tickets, flight, and accommodations. Well, I was floored, I remember pausing for quite a while, and then stuttering and stumbling my way thru the rest of the phone call.

I end up calling my husband, and telling him what had just happened. He had just left early from work, and was at the doctor’s office because he hurt his hand pretty badly the night before. So, he’s sitting in an exam room waiting for the doc to come in, and I tell him the news. Once again, a long silent pause and then “Are you joking”… and I say “No, and yes I am in total shock right now”.

As crazy as it may seem, we asked if the DSO show would be an option. Realizing it was just one day away, we were willing to get in the car by the end of my work day at 11pm and drive the 10 hours to Detroit. We thought if there was ever a show to see that it had to be this one. And, the next thing we knew, we were on a flight out of Philly the next morning going to Detroit to see Kid Rock & Twisted Trucker Band with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra at the historical Fox Theater.

Geno and I just couldn’t believe what was happening. We kept looking at each other, smiling, shaking our heads, and giggling like a couple of kids thinking this was all just a dream. We had gotten little if any sleep on Friday night. We pretty much kept ourselves up all night blasting Kid Rock cds – replaying over and over again “Only God Knows Why”. We were so excited and in total shock of it all, that even when we did finally lay down at 2 in the morning, we were just so excited about it that we couldn’t fall asleep.

    The Show

First, I have to mention about how beautiful and breath-taking the Fox Theater is. From the marque and the architect of the outside of the building to the art glass chandelier, ceiling, columns, and red velvet curtain on the inside, this place is gorgeous. It’s so classy and elegant. A thought came to my mind while gazing around that it is my understanding that this is the place that Kid Rock did his show that was broadcasted on HBO’s Reverb back in 1999. I remember back to when we saw that show on HBO, which lit a fire in our bellies to go out and purchase our first ever concert tickets to see them live back in Oct, 1999. So, just being there, and getting a chance to take this all in was just so surreal for us.

On our way in we were handed a program. It had some information and articles pertaining to the DSO, the names of the musicians and conductor, some places they are going to be playing, like Carnegie Hall in 2013. There was a page devoted for the Kid Rock Foundation which features a picture of Kid Rock and the band on-stage behind the CARE banner, and down below a paragraph to read explaining that in 2011 the Kid Rock Foundation distributed three quarters of a million dollars to charitable causes. It also had a listing of songs the DSO was going to be performing before Rock and the band were to take the stage. I saw unique full page MID and Badass Beer advertisement in there, as well. It’s quite a keepsake.

The show was just incredible. The DSO played a few numbers before the band came out. There was quite an excitable feeling that came over me listening to them play, along with the feeling of anticipation of them playing with Kid Rock and TBT. Looking around, I felt like that was the overall mood in the crowd as well. - excited to be there. My favorite of the numbers had to be Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 5 in C Minor” because it was what was played, as well as Mozart, growing-up in my parent’s house. And, then their finale number kind of made me giggle a lot “Finale from overture to William Tell” because towards the end of it, TBT had slowly began walking out to their positions at their instruments. Kid Rock was the last to come out sporting a tux and he started the show out with “Devil without a Cause”. Hearing the DSO back him and the band was bone chilling. I didn't catch this but my husband noticed at one point in the song, he saw the DSO had all put on fedora hats. In no particular order, we heard them do “Cowboy/Lay it on me”, “You never met a motherfucker quite like me”, “Bawitdaba”, “Times like these”, “RnR Jesus”, “Picture” – just to name a few. And, my personal favorite of the night, and might I add for the very first time seeing it performed live, was “Rock on”. Bob sang it so beautifully. Marlon’s guitar solo cried out tenderly. He had asked everyone to sit for the song, which he mentioned, is something he had never done before, and that we would know when to stand back up again. Half way thru the song I had an abundance of tears fall down my cheeks. My hand rose to the ceiling as to hold God’s hand as I felt the song with all my heart. It was so touching and beautiful. That song is truly a masterpiece, you guys. I am so thankful I got to experience that. Wow!!

Later in the night, Geno and I had gotten the opportunity to personally thank Rock for this beautiful evening. It was quite an honor and a pleasure to meet him. He is truly an inspiration to us and an amazing gentleman. A thousand thanks to you Bob Ritchie for making this a dream come true. This has to be the best date night ever for my husband and I, and we will never forget this moment for the rest of our lives. It’s going down in history as the sweetest thing anybody has ever done for us.

Congratulations on raising one million dollars for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

We will forever LOVE the Kid Rock & the Twisted Brown Trucker Band.

Thanks JMesser810.... so incredibly amazing and overwhelming.... that I have had to take a step back just to reflect on this beautiful thing that Rock has done for us. Not only has this past weekend been overwhelming.. but the responses of every friend that we have ever had the pleasure of chillin with.... from the KRAA days back in 2004.. to the old community board.. to the present. You all have been so sweet.

I haven't even been able to check my email in what feels like ages b/c my daily life's tasks are in such clutter right now... haven't gone to the grocery store in two weeks... bills are late... the only thing I've managed to do is get to work at the least..lol I don't know how many times this whole week I just break out to tears and did some major crying from reflecting on what happen and reading all my friend's responses.... I'm quite an emotional mess.

@Cheryl, RSMS, and TammyRay.. thank you so very much for thinking of us. Cheryl, I needed to take a break on facebook but I'll get back there eventually.... just gonna take a lil bit. I've been trying to push a lot of resumes out this week and handle a lil bizz that I have left go. RSMS, you are awesome, can't wait :) TammyRay, please forgive me.. I saw your email and have not been able to write back quite yet. Gene and I feel like we've been riding a freight train that don't have a stop.... been really hard to get back to reality. I don't want you thinking I'm ignoring you.... just that life's been pretty crazy for the moment..lol
Hoping everyone has a great weekend..enjoy the ones you love. God Bless you all.

You know it's things like this that just show what this dysfunctional family is made of. I read the article that some have posted on FB from the LA times and that writer didn't get us, just like the Freep writer tried to bash Kid over MID. We stick together, support each other, cheer each other on and lift each other up. All while trying to keep being better people in our own lives and the world we live in. The base of the music we listen to and what Kid sings about continues to inspire us. Congrats to Becky and Geno. You guys truly deserved to be there and what a beautiful thank you and review of the show. It was truly a memorable night for me, I can only imagine what it was like for you. Peace!

Oh damn....I misread that one - OK....sorry I was REALLY thirsty last night during "Thirsty Thursday" at the old watering hole. Didn't get home until about 1:30am and still got up and made it into work today.

absofu**inglutely I would of picked a Detroit show and yes if possible it would of been the DSO show..I understand how epic this event was, and how special of a night this was.. I just wanted to hear Beckxy's reasoning (gotta say I love reading her stories..) and I just wanted to throw in a little bit of my sarcastic humor about asking for the cruise show..so sorry if I offended or bewildered any body by asking Becks this question...maybe it was a bit mis understood...

rsms, I have a package ready to go for Beckxy and Geno, just haven't made it to the p.o. yet, but thanks for sending yours off..

I read that----I was just giving Tammy a hard time because She would've picked Detroit too :-) The last night of the cruise---at about 6am in the casino--lol :-)
Tammy was talking about dragging Ted to a Detroit show :-)
I SERIOUSLY hope that They do another ~DSO show later on this year----

This was Beckxy's response from yesterday why she chose the DSO show:

@TammyRay, good question. I think they mentioned that I was to look on the tour dates at what was up at this time.. not really something that may possibly come up in the future, and tho I did take a quick glance at them - I knew right away where my heart was. We've traveled to the D many of times, it's a beautiful city.. we have a favorite bar there 'The Park Bar' where we usually have to stop and get a beer and a chicken schwarma, tho we didn't have time this time. But, to be honest, it had more to do with the show, how this sorta thing just doesn't happen at every show with them playing with a whole orchestra behind them. I played the viola for about 10 years for the school orchestra all the way thru highschool so there was a little understanding musically in my head on how Kid Rock's songs may actually sound with the DSO.. that to me there would be no other choice but to ask if this show was an option. Keeping in mind, that I did feel some sorta a way about asking about this show, because I knew it was for a cause and to raise money for the DSO, but I remembered seeing on the front news section that they had just opened up some more tickets to the show.. so my thought was, I guess it wasn't gonna hurt by asking if it was a possible choice. And, what an incredible honor it was to be there and get to chance to see this show. I am forever thankful to Mr. Ritchie for letting us come, and enjoy this experience of a lifetime :)

Beckxy, I just have to ask...out of all the (up coming, not announced yet) shows, why this one?? I mean you could of picked a show ANYWHERE, why was this one so important TO YOU?? Hell if it was me I would of probably tried to push my luck and asked for the 2013 ctm cruise concert, I mean hell they did say they'd pay for EVERYTHING!!!!!! ....(lol)

Oh Tammy :-) If you have never been to a Detroit show----especially one like this---I don't care where else----when else--etc.
"There ain't No Party like a Detroit Party...."
I would've chose this show too :-)
~And there is NO "Family" like Our ~KrTbt Family :-)
I Love You Guys :-)

@Bobbie Jean, true that sweet lady, it's one of the biggest things I have had to process thru my head over and over again. Dedicated and deserving.. many upon many good friends/fans of Kid Rock. "Only God Knows Why"... quite taken back at such the kind faith of this man to do something so sweet for us. Sorry for repeating myself.. just at a struggle for words. My mother is finally getting back to herself from the operation.. she was home bound with the visiting nurses for quite awhile, but she just got the okay this week that she can go out and about with taking it easy.. now there's no stopping her..lol. She's due to get the reversal surgery already on July 11th. Then the next thing is trying to find a cardiac pediatrician either in Hershey or Philly to see what they can do about the three heart defects. Thanks for thinking of her and keeping her in your prayers.
@Cheryl.. thank you ever so kindly and to your sweet n funny hubby for capturing that, "She's here, she's here"..lol :) It was such a surprise to hear that from Kid Rock.. man.. he had me grabbing a hold of my husband so I didn't fall to my knees, no kidding. I was able to show my mom that yesterday which brought a big smile to her face. This whole thing is just way too much... still breathing yes..lol God Bless you guys!

Beckxy's picture

Man, you guys.. thanks for the sweet comments. I really miss seeing yall post in the forum over here. I still like it over here b/c facebook can get kinda crazy for me.

Becky definitely well worth the wait. Beautiful review!! Thank you for sharing with us. What is there to say that hasn't already been said and that we don't all already feel? I am so happy that you had this wonderful dream of a lifetime experience! I am all warm and fuzzy inside and my heart is warm with the priceless joy emitting from your words above. Becky, I know you are very overwhelmed by this entire experience. Just take it all in and let it fill you. Like everyone has said there is no one more deserving than you two. This is nothing more the a stellar example of you get what you put in and people get what they deserve! This was certainly you getting back a little of what you are always giving and certainly what you deserve no two ways about it.
Much love to you both!!

I told Kid this when Cedars, Just Becasue, and I were having our cruise picture taken with him: we are all friends because of him. It's so true. I have found really good, kind-hearted, thoughtful, hilarious...friends on this website who "get" me and my love for Kids' music. I met so many of you also on the cruise. Angel is right. We are a dysfunctional family, and one that I love!
It's nice to see everyone on the website again. It was pretty quiet here for awhile.

@KRCVAL, if it wasn't for you gals I would have been home sulking! I am just as pleased as Beckxy. That night is irreplaceable as you stated. It was hard to believe what we experienced. Even with this great write up you had to be there to fully get the jest of it. That man has a heart of gold and I appreciate all he does more and more everyday. I am so very proud to be a fan, live in Michigan, stare at his driveway twice a day 5 days a week (not stalking just going to work) and have the friendship with our group that was formed because we took that leap of faith, when meeting up at the Woodshop we had no idea that to expect. We meet up with fear of the unknown only to create an everlasting bond because of our love for Kid Rock and TBT. I can not thank my friends enough.

BornFree4's picture

Beckxy that was well worth the wait...You brought me to tears... I can only imagine how you were feeling and I am sure still are... That man has no idea just how he touches everyone in so many ways... He never ceases to amaze me in the things he does... You said everything about him just beautifully.. It could not have happened to more deserving people. You two are the sweetest and kindest couple I have had the pleasure of meeting on the cruise...

Beautiful write up Beckxy. I was just talking to Val about Kid's fan base and how unique we are. I joined a while back, not as long ago as you. I read a lot at first before posting, then posted a little. Before long I found myself on here every day. I believe it was Angel who told me that we are all a part of the Kid Rock family. I have found this to be true. I sometimes like you guys more than my real family. lol. The care and love I see on here has to be directly related to Mr. Ritchie. We wouldn't be here if it weren't for him. We're on here talking almost everyday, whether he is touring or not. This isn't about following some celebrity. The people on here care about each other just as much as they care for Bob and his band. But the love comes full circle, 'cause i believe he cares about his fans just as much. After reading his thoughts on the death of Adam Yauch I realized he (Bob) gets it. He understands how we feel about him. He remembers what it is to be a fan, to love the music that touches your soul and moves you to dance, brings you to tears, and puts a warm smile on your face as you remember where you were when you heard that song for the first time.
I am so glad you had a memorable evening enjoying one of our great Detroit treasures,(well two treasures) The Fox Theatre (and of course KR &TBT). Good choice of show. There's nothing like seeing Kid Rock in Detroit and with our DSO, well, it was just outstanding.

KRSVal's picture

Becks, what a wonderful recap of a perfect evening...
And Cheryl, I knew in your heart that you wanted to be there, and we wanted you there, so it was going to happen. Irreplaceable memories.
