Robert James Richie...I have to ask, why can't us fans find anything other than an audio, or crappy, recorded off tv, video of your tribute to George? You and Patty and Vince made me weep. I had to work and didn't get to see the service. Would love to watch it and not just listen.
Thanks for posting all this! We aren't going, but maybe someday??? My husband is a quad, not 90 lbs, somewhere between fluffy and "damn!" so ain't nobody lifting him anywhere! He's spoken with several cruise lines before and the cabins are always an issue, but it's good to know that Carnival can be accommodating.
Shelley :-) What AWESOME news :-)
YAY Great News.See you Da Boat!!!!
Hey Hey...just spoke with Carnival and they said ALL IS A GOOOOO!! Should not be a problem getting her on and off the Island. She can even bring her power scooter. Girl gotta have some power...in more ways than one!!! YEE HAW!!!
Uh.. shit, ya think they'd have a ramp for accessibility on them tenders by now : /
I do know exactly what you mean by the scooter made for sand... we were looking at them online for my friend's son who recently became paralyzed from the waist down... they have really nice sized wheels on them for sand and such.
Not sure if you can see if you can make arrangements to bring that on the boat so they can store it for her somewhere for island use... but if she's under 100.. my husband lifts 100lb tires all day.. and handsome to me..lol I'm sure if they are cool with him lifting her onto the tender.. he'd be happy to help this young lady out. He's a great guy like that. Is this her first time on the Kid Rock cruise?.. as I'm wondering if we may have met last cruise.
Tell her to keep her head up... where there's a will there's a way : )
Thanks guys for all the feedback. We live in Destin, FL on the beach and she has a scooter made for that...wish they had something similar. I will continue to get all the info I can and hope she can get to the Island from the boat. If you all hear anything else about this please forward it to me. She's only 95 lbs soakin wet and I've had many handsome men just carry her. I gotta make this work for her. She's as cool as they come and a wonderful true friend. Cross all fingers and toes for us.
It's getting closer....I can't wait!!
From the Carnival website----
At certain ports of call, small boats known as tenders are used to transport passengers from the ship to shore. Certain tenders may not be accessible to individuals using wheelchairs or mobility scooters, or the status of the tendering process at a particular port under certain weather, sea, swell, current and/or tide conditions may prove difficult for a safe transfer to take place. In each case, it will be the decision of the ship officials to determine, based on their evaluation of safety issues for our guests and crew, whether or not a guest using a wheelchair may board a tender. In order to safely board tenders, guests must be able to take steps and use a collapsible, fold up wheelchair; motorized wheelchairs and mobility scooters cannot be taken on tenders.
*NoteTendering ports are: Cabo San Lucas, Catalina California, Catalina Island Dominican Republic, Cannes France, Belize, Half Moon Cay Bahamas, Grand Cayman, Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa (Mexico), Kona (Hawaii), Lahaina (Hawaii), Newport Rhode Island, Sitka (Alaska) Moorea (Tahiti), Polynesia, Bora Bora (Tahiti), Polynesia, and Suva, Fiji Islands. Possible Tender: Cozumel, Ketchikan Alaska, Dubrovnik Croatia, Katakolon Greece

A wheelchair on the beach?that aint going to fly Im afraid. Why dont you try to get a golfcart for her?She can cruise in that when on the island
I think they would still have to adhere to The Americans with Disability Act, but maybe to reduce their liability this is standard & not technically being in the US who knows? I'd do what Jade said, call Carnival if you haven't already. Hope they can accommodate your friend.
IDK, since were not technically in the U.S maybe the Americam disability act does not apply (ADA)
I would call Carnival directly and talk to them. they were very accommodating last year with a blind woman who was on the boat with her dog but she called them in advance and worked out the details. I think they will make arrangements for anyone who has special needs, but call them now and give them some time to make those arrangements!
good luck and have fun to both of you.
Oh wow.. not cool. Did Sixthman tell her that? I'm wondering what is not exactly accessible. I realize it's pretty impossible to get a wheelchair thru sand.... but I've been watching ppl's youtube videos of what it's gonna be like.. and noticed that the ship doesn't dock.. but more stay's further out in the water.. and they taxi people in by smaller boats.. I would think those are wheelchair accessible. And then it seems like there is some parts to the island that are concrete..like paths to the shopping areas, bars, ect... but not sure how much of it is actually concrete. Sure hope they can work something out. If you guys contacted Sixthman.. how about contacting Carnival to find out what they say...which you may have already did. Sure hope they can do something.
