We're staying at the Embassy Suites by Miami International Airport on Wednesday night---anyone else staying around there? It's like 7.5 miles from the Marriot downtown----so looks like we'll be taking cabs to any pre-parties---God I can't wait for this AWESOME vacation :-)
Think I'll bring my snorkel gear. Not so sure about horse back riding with a helmet??? Or a saddle, for that matter.
Samantha ~ you can para sail for longer and cheaper in Miami, just say'n. :)
would like to get a group together and do the glass bottom boat excursion.Last time I checked a couple months back think it was like $40.00 pp..
ya I'm looking at the cabana, but it's only the hubby and me this year so if another couple wants to go in halves and share it that would be cool..
@Samantha - That's funny. I was looking at the Carnival stuff about Half Moon Cay yesterday. It has an interactive map, excursions, and a photo gallery.
The pictures do look like paradise. There are some reviews of the different excursions.
Private Cabana = $199/per day - 4 people max. Your cabana will be outfitted with a refrigerator, ceiling fan, air conditioner, table and chairs inside, as well as deck chairs and misting shower on the private terrace. You will be provided snacks and an assortment of soft drinks and bottled water to quench your thirst.
Horseback riding = $79/per person - 1.25 hours.
Stingray adventure = $25/per person - 1 hour. Basically feeding the stingrays in a private area.
I'm not sure what I will do - maybe kayak? Probably just belly up to the bar and watch Mrs. Bart lay in the sun....She can stay out there all day and not burn - I can only go for a few hours in the tropical sun. (note to self - bring my floppy sun hat - that thing saved me in Hawaii a few years ago)

@Roxy - Seriously -47? How and Why? Anything below single digits gets to be too much for me to handle. Thankfully, that is pretty rare here in MI. We are never in the negatives...Hope you have some good long johns!
I know it looks absolutely beautiful..I am soooo looking forward to this trip..The ship, the Music, the people, the island, the Music, the people, the fun, and did I mention the Music and people..(lol) I can't fu**in' wait..
Triple L Blessings
Hey there everyone: I looked up some stuff on Half Moon Cay and wanted to share it with you -
Where is the shopping?
There is only one shop, but it offers a wide range of products. Bahamian straw goods, standard souvenirs, and Holland America logo items can all be purchased.
What is there to do?
Half Moon Cay is situated in a protective bay making conditions ideal for swimming in the calm waters. Holland America has one of the most comprehensive water sports programs of the private islands. You can rent a Hobie Catamaran, Sunfish Sailboat, View Boards, Windsurfer Sailboards, kayaks, aqua cycles and float mats. There is even a separate area designated for these activities. There are volleyball and basketball courts, horseshoes and shuffleboard, a fitness trail with exercise stations and nature trails for hiking. On Half Moon Cay you can snorkel, SCUBA dive, jet-ski or even do some bone fishing. Of course, you can always just kick back and relax or have a beachside massage
What are my choices for dining and drinking?
On Half Moon Cay there is a buffet pavilion serving a barbeque luncheon, covered dining areas, an ice cream shop, and a bar serving a variety of frozen drinks and cocktails.
** All I know is I was looking through a bunch of pictures and that place looks like paradise. White sandy beaches and crystal clear water. Oh my goodness that just got me even more excited!!!
I wish I was there NOW.I woke up too -47.Last week It was almost summer.
@BART - I think the best mind set to have is exactly what you guys did. To not worry about the cost of the drinks. Especially because you are there to enjoy yourself and have a good time. Not to worry about how much money your spending. Even if you were to bring 1 bottle of something it wouldn't last the entire weekend anyway.
I'm not sure if they're going to have any towns or what not on the island. But para-sailing is definitely something we wanted to do. The only down fall, I'm not sure if you've done that on previous trips - But when reading reviews from Half Moon Cay para-sailing you are only up there for less than 5 minutes. And your paying over $100 I think. I don't remember the exact price.
I'm sad that we didn't plan better to venture down to Miami on Wednesday. I wanted to book my flight right away because it was a cheaper flight. Bummer. You all will have to tell me how much fun it was = )
It's the Marriott on Biscayne Bay, I believe...I can't freakin wait!!!!
I think we are staying in the group hotel - marriott....but I'm not sure - Mrs. Bart took care of the arrangements - I just bring the Visa.
I'm looking into hotels in the area as well. Where is everyone staying?
Just booked our pre cruise Balcony room at the Claridge Hotel on Collins on South Beach now even more excited...
anyone else know where they are staying yet??
THANK YOU EVERYONE for all of the info!!!!!! :-)
LOL K8 :-) That's why I'm bringing a twist cap---$15 to open up a bottle of wine is ridiculous!!!!!! Really, tho---I'll just bring a bottle of Champagne---most of those don't need an opener.
And can we bring on a six-pack of water AND a six-pack of pop? Or is it just one 6-pack total?
And~hmmmm---wonder how well they will check our water bottles :-)----lol---
I wish you were coming down on Wed. too, Samantha :-) We haven't booked our flight tickets yet---but the current plan is to fly down Wednesday Afternoon/Evening---we'll see---worse case scenario---we'll be throwing everything into the car at 3am Wednesday morning and making the 12 hour drive down---
I REALLY hope we don't have to do that!!!!!!
You Guys will get on ~Rsms :-) and Cedars :-)
I wish i was flying down for the pre party on Wed. But my hubby and I booked our flight to miami early Thursday morning. Saved some money with having to book a hotel room and what not. Even though I know it would be worth it! :)
I looked at all those other options before we went on the cruise last year. Honestly, it just seems like a lot of BS headache to save at the most $100. Plus it was our first cruise ever, so we didn't know what to expect or what inspections, etc...
Check the size limit of your wine/champagne bottle that you can bring on. It's pretty small and not even going to get you past the first afternoon.....and you have to lug it all over the place and hope it doesn't break and mess up the rest of your stuff. We don't really drink wine anyway, so we passed on that option. We didn't do the "duty-free" option either. It just seems like more of a pain to us - maybe there is some benefit to some....
Sometimes you have to just bite the bullet and pay the price. We decided we were not going to worry about the cost of drinks, we were going to worry about having a good time and enjoying ourselves. We have plenty of time when we get back to pay down our Visa bill.
We didn't pre-plan an excursion last year. We've done most of that island stuff, so we decided to wait and see how that day went. We are glad we did because we were soooooo hungover and it was soooo hot we just wanted to sit in some shade and eat greasy food. We did some shopping in Cozumel, but then went back on the boat early to nap and recover. I'm sure it will be different this year since we will spend more time on the island and there doesn't seem to be much of a "town" on Rock's reef.
I can't imagine horseback riding the morning after....Para-sailing is awesome. That might make it on the list this year.
They didn't have the pre-party at the same place as the group hotel last year, so I'm not sure where the pre-party will be. John Stone did play at it last year.
Awesome news! More cash for the boat!
MSB, is there a cork free if it's a twist cap? LOL fuckers!
Party at the WEAM (World Erotic Art Museum) 4pm on the 25th, light snacks, beer, wine, and champagne, then off to pre party, location not TBD. Probly be South Beach or around the Marriott blocked by cruisers, I think it's 2nd Street. I'm sure we'll hear of more before long. I heard John Stone put it on. I tried to pm him, but have yet to hear.
I've heard rave reviews about the Rum Runners.
Getting excited. Happy your all coming to my home state of Florida. Southern hospitality love.
*fee
Cedars and I are still on that waiting list. I called Sixthman and we are #60 (there were a bunch of presale people ahead of us). The guy I talked to seemed pretty confident that we would get on since the first 100 did last year. We'll see, the economy is a bit better this year and more people ahead of me might not decline. Keeping our fingers crossed.
I hope no security peeps are reading this thread---lmao----because i plan on bringing a case of---"water" lol----and it sounds like "Rumblemintz" will render good breath as well---lol :-)
$15 "cork fee" ???? WTMFINHell? I guess ~Boonesfarme it is then---lol
I can't wait to party with You Guys :-)
~WOOOOOO-HOOOOOOOO :-)
Do You Guys know where all the pre-cruise parties will be in Miami? Our hotel is close to Miami International Airport----i would LOVE to hook up with some ~KRC Family before We sail :-)
So I'm assuming then once we get to Miami we should buy the bottles of wine to carry onto the ship with us? And then we can also bring the pop/water. That is very good to know. Where you able to bring your own bottle opener? Like in your big bags? I know I'll need some water. Especially trying to cure a hangover. = )
I've never used a rum runner so I don't know if I would try that. But that Listerine bottle idea looks good. I always get nervous with being sneaky or trying to do something that I know is wrong. Lol. But it's worth a shot I think.
That sucks that if you buy the booze on the island's shop 'if they have one'.. it's often way cheaper then US for booze and cigarettes.. and other items.. but Roxy's right.. they take it once you get back on the boat and hold it for you until the last day when you get off the boat. Kinda defeat the purpose of me wanting it then.. ya know..lol
