    Kid Rock + Detroit Symphony: It'll Be 'Big'

    That might be the case on May 12, when Kid Rock and his Twisted Brown Trucker band performs a special concert with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra at the city's 5,000-set Fox Theatre that's designed to raise $1 million for the institution.

    Rock tells Billboard.com he's never attended a DSO concert but that "as a musician, a cultural institution like that in Detroit is important, and I thought I could do it. I thought it would be something different to play with an orchestra and do something great."

    Rock says he and the DSO are "in the early stages" of determining the concert's repertoire. He hopes to bring in Rob Mathes, musical director of the annual Kennedy Center Honors, to handle the orchestral arrangements, and he says everything in his repertoire is up for grabs. "I hear a big symphonic opening to 'Born Free,' where I'm singing behind this big orchestration that builds up to the payoff of the song," explains Rock who doesn't anticipate having any guests be part of the show. "I did 'Picture' once at Carnegie Hall with Marvin Hamlisch conduction (an orchestra), so that works. I hear 'Bawitdaba' being kind of insane. 'Cowboy' seems to be a little tricky, but maybe...we don't call them violins; we call them fiddles for that song.

I agree with J JC... played viola, a long time ago, for my school orchestra for 9 years and enjoyed the every now and then non-traditional classical piece that we all could have fun with... yet my all time favorite to play was Cannon in D 'go figure'.... but man O man, this is gonna be the shit. I've had long talks with my brother, who also shares a love for music, and we'd talk about how putting a orchestra behind a rock or pop artist instantly makes memorable - notable moments for all involved. Would Luv, love, LOVE to hear that Jackson Mississippi making the set list.. and just for shits and giggles.. would love to hear a take on EMSP.. just because I think it would be a challenge and off the wall. Sad part is.. I ain't gonna hear any of it b/c we can't afford it... but for the sake of your fans who would love to hear this... please, Bob, consider a dvd release for this : )

one of the fun things in band was to play arrangements of pop music. i can imagine several fun arrangements to your music. and not just the quieter stuff. the drums and horns could really go to town on Rock and Roll Jesus, or So Hott. really!!!!! A good arranger with the right ear will know.

Fantastic Kid! What an awesome thing you are doing. What a great heritage you are helping to keep alive for the City, especially for the kids who go through their schools that might otherwise never get to experience the DSO. I truly hope that you will have a pre-sale for your fans who want to stand behind you in this and support it. I'm not rich by any means but I believe in this cause, and will scrape a little here and there for a couple tickets. I drove from the "D" to ACF and it was the best show I've ever seen you do. I'm sure You, the TBTB and the DSO will "tear the roof off the sucker." Great job, THANK YOU.
