    Merry Christmas

    December 25, 2011

I am but one of the many, lucky enough to have been BORN FREE.  Not by choice, but by the grace of God. I often have counted my blessings on my many journeys, and thought about those who were not born so lucky.  As I approach a new chapter in my life, more reflective, more aware of my surroundings and the struggles of people close and far, I realize I could better serve those in need if I could only SLOW MY ROLL and take some time to think about the things that are truly important in life.  I can’t stop the suffering in this world, but I can try to be proactive, do what I can when opportunity arises to help, or at least just CARE.  Sometimes the silence of a PURPLE SKY is so deafening it shuts out everything.  It’s been said WHEN IT RAINS, it pours, like the loss of a job on Monday, mounting debt on Wednesday, family problems Friday.  Sometimes all we can do is find an outlet in friends, family, music, parties, alcohol, and cut loose and scream, “GOD BLESS SATURDAY!”  Why can’t we just get along? You’re not that far left, I’m not that far right, must we constantly COLLIDE? I’m sure if we sat down and talked about things we wouldn’t end up that far apart, but rather a comfortable distance where we all can be happy and pursue our dreams without all the extremism that exists these days.  My hometown sure was FLYIN HIGH during the industrial revolution, we put the world on wheels, made ‘em sing and dance to our sound. The riots, white flight, mistreatment of workers, corporate greed, unions taking advantage, corruption, and education failures took their toll.  But a new day has dawned. My hometown has heart, style and knows how to pick themselves up and dust themselves off when we’ve been kicked down.  We understand it’s not only about where we’ve been, but also, more importantly, that it makes us who we are in TIMES LIKE THESE.  Always be proud of who you are, where you come from and never forget your roots. I love life as much as I love all of you. God bless you and ROCK ON.

PS.  Thank you to my family, friends and fans.  I hope you have enjoyed this collection of ROCK BOTTOM BLUES, country, hip hop and soul. I enjoyed writing and recording it with the help of some friends and great musicians. I can honestly say I feel like I am in a great place musically and personally FOR THE FIRST TIME in a long time. I hope y’all are too.  Be cool and Merry Christmas.

KR, In these times it's great to have someone as inspirational as you. There are a lot of people out there hurting right now and we need to stop and count our blessing and realize that we need to help others. Born Free says that on so many levels. It reminds me that nobody owns me and I am free to love and care for anyone I want too and in the end you thank God for having made all of it possible by making you Born Free.

What a wonderful message. I admire you so much for your charity, but mostly b/c of your talent as a song writer and singer. I hope you finally get what you deserve in 2012 and can be completely happy with life! I appreciate your CARE tours and making concerts available to people all over the country. I saw you 3 times in 2011. And I get my 1st 2012 concert of you in March. Wish I could be on your cruise, but nothing available. Wishing you and your family the best! Thank you for what you do!

Happy New Year to you and your family. Thank you for what you give generously in sharing your music, your talent and your life with all of us. I totally understand the meaning of being "born free" I'm in the process of moving to another state(Kentucky). but i will NEVER forget my roots & the love i have for this great lake state, Michigan will always be my home, when i talk bout Michigan i will tell the people what Great people we have, we Care,we Give & most of all we Live. For the 1st time in a long time my life has come full circle, I'm being transferred from the FORD Dearborn truck plant to the Louisville assembly. I will miss so many friends & family but they all know that I'm doing the right thing, Life is a journey not a destination & where i end up before i die, is where I'll be. I will miss the concerts here in Detroit ..Kid i hope you visit KY i would love to see you there, take care & remember God bless everyday.

Your post is cool, most importantly it is authentic. Born Free album has truely helped me find an outlet when I have no one to turn to numerous times this past year. It's amazing how your lyrics and now this post makes me realize there's someone else out there that gets it too. I can relate to each song in one way or another. I'm still waiting for the long term of "For The Firrst Time in a long time". Keeping faith it will happen one day. 5 days before Christmas I had a close friend pass away so once again in my life," When it Rains" helps get me through. I want to thank you for all your work, all you do and you just being you. Happy New Year to you not only as an artist but truely as who you are. Stay cool, take good care and may God Bless you throughout the new year. Happy New Year !

I usually don't ask for favors but when they are not for me , I don't mind asking. I work as a registered nurse case manager, patient navigator, business developer, marketer, insurance specialist , nurse consultant, and educator in a skilled nursing facility. I recently met a woman who works in medical records who is a sweet, hard working, loving, black female who goes out of her way to help anyone. She has lost approx 50-70 lbs recently and the doctors told her she may have stomach cancer. She has not told her family or any other coworkers other than myself. She can't afford the money to have the surgery which requires 5000 down to remove the cancer and she continues to lose weight. I thought about doing a fun raiser to raise the money for her surgery but she doesn't want anyone to know. She recently found out that I was attending your show at Winstar on march 3, 2011 and was very excited exclaiming that you were one of her favorite artists. She asked me if I knew of any connections to get tickets and unfortunately my connection is ticket master which has just about sold out of tickets and the cheapest tickets were 95 which she could not afford and unfortunately they are no longer available due to ticket sellers buying them up and reselling them at double to quadruple the price. My tickets for VIP were 250 each for north 6th row ff and next day only tickets to be found in that area had doubled in price. I wish I could afford to get them for her but I'm still paying off Xmas bills buying for 27 people and feeding them all. I could pay for her trip up there or let her go with me if she had tickets. I don't normally ask for charity . I usually am the giver of charity but in this case I would be forever grateful if you could provide her with a ticket to the show on march 3. I would give mine up but my husband would be disappointed as they were a Xmas gift which I had been asking for a we were to go together as he loves you just as much as I do. Please message me.

Better than right is being right and cool at the same time. Born Free is the most inspirational album to ever hit the air (wish it hit the air waves here, in houston) but you know what I mean. Roll on Kid.

I want to thank you because listening to 'born free' I took different crazy decision in 2011. In 2012 if all keeps going I will make something that make myself feel free. I want to thank you, because I always listen to your music when I try to build my dream in the reality. I listen to u in the train, in the car, when I go to work, when I go to my different courses, when I go to university, when I am in the metro. Hope this year will be gorgeous for you and full of wonderful things and love.

Very clever. Brought a smile to my face. Here's hoping 2012 brings all the best to you and yours. May we all remember every day to count our blessings. Life, even with all its' madness, is still pretty darn good. May the road rise up to meet you. Cheers.

Just a warm/heart felt letter to all. It did bring tears to my eyes, mostly sad because of family that has passed in the last 3 years. But you are right, we do pick ourselves up and try to go on. Thanks for all that you do for others and our great state of Michigan! You all take CARE and a late Merry Christmas to you and yours and a very Happy New Year to all!!!
