Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has picked a Kid Rock anthem as his campaign theme song.

Romney, a Detroit native who grew up in southeast Michigan and was the son of former Michigan Gov. George Romney, is using Kid Rock's "Born Free."

Ryan Williams, a Romney campaign spokesman, confirmed the move.

Kid Rock, whose real name is Bob Ritchie, was born in Romeo and has been a supporter of the Republican party and George W. Bush. Kid Rock is a big booster of Michigan and Detroit causes.

He's sold more than 20 million records in the United States.

"Born Free" is the title track off his 2010 album — his sixth platinum record.

"I just started to think about no matter where somebody was born in this world, how lucky you are, just be the grace of God to be born free," Kid Rock told MTV in 2010.

Then-candidate Barack Obama in 2008 also used a song by a Michigan native for his campaign. Obama often used Saginaw-native Stevie Wonder's "Signed, Sealed, Delivered."

It was performed live on the final night of the Democratic National Convention in 2008.

Yikes!!!! Romney doesn't deserve your words. I wonder if he can see your heart? Because he is blind on alot things and if i was a beating person he hasn't looked down deep in your eyes nor can he see your heart. You are Born Free to support whom you wish!!! Romney will be yelling from a mountain (podium) high BS

You have got to be kidding me. The Republican party only cares about protecting the rich and making sure they do not have to pay taxes. Also Romney would not support the bailout of the car companies but supported the bailout of the banks which in turn gave bonuses with the bailout money instead of saving the companies. I have always voted for the lesser of two evils but not anymore – the Republicans are trying to kill the middle class so that we may become like most other countries – a few rich and the rest poor and suffering….

Is this how you sit in the middle and try to live your life?VERY DISAPOINTING ROCK!!! Romney,BadAss politcian,LOL.He was born free, then became a morman.LOL.You could have at least let Newt use it,if you were gonna jump on the 1% band wagon,At least Newt plays the BadASS Part.Still love ya man,but very dissapointed in this.

Really??? Romney was very vocal about letting Detroit and the Big 3 go down when they needed help the most!! He does not support Detroit- or Michigan, for that matter...Now, he wants to bring your fans to his side??? I say we all write in Kid Rock for President- a man who leads by example!!! Who said the White House shouldn't have pole dancers at the Christmas Tree lighting???

Ok people please do not ruin yet another great site with a debate on the morals of GOP or DEMS. They have none!!!! Vote on the issues that you feel are right. Also just to clear something up, Kid said on Piers Morgan, He is in the middle , but leans toward the GOP,. As do I . Whether your for Donkey or Elephant, I think we can all agree Born Free is a great song and Bobby should run for office.

Aw heck this is where it all falls apart .. "sitting in the middle" well the GOP is not in the middle Kid. I really have a great fantasy life with you except for this one thing... You know they all pretty much have sold their souls before the public ever knows they are alive. You are better than that... :-)

There will never, ever be a perfect candidate. Everyone has skeletons of one sort or another. Will I vote for Romney? I don't know yet but I DO know this. I will vote for whoever wins the GOP ticket. As for Kid Rock, I love his heart for people and that he puts actions behind his words. Most of us can't do what Bob Ritchie does because we don't have those resources. But- what little things can we do that make a difference in our own sphere of influence? We can ALL care & put that into action in some small way. :) Bob, you rock!

Mitt Romney's anthem should be Fortunate Son by CCR instead. Mitt is an over educated white collar son of a politician who has never worked a full day in his life. I will only vote for a self made man. Too bad there's not one person running for President like that. Maybe Bob Ritchie should run!
