Kid Rock Charity Show Rocks The Midland

Three hours before he took the stage at what would be a sold-out Midland theater, Kid Rock sat at a table, flanked by representatives of two Kansas City charities and facing a small assembly of cameras and reporters.

His concert Tuesday was a benefit for El Centro and Helping Hands Ministries. Rock (Bob Ritchie) agreed to appear at the press conference to spread the word about the virtues of each benefactor, with some reluctance. “This is the last thing on my list of things I like to do,” he said.

He was much more at ease later that evening as he took the stage with his 10-piece Twisted Brown Trucker Band. Rock graduated many years ago from theaters the size of the Midland to amphitheaters and arenas. In February he drew about 15,000 fans to the Sprint Center. On Tuesday nearly 3,000 fans packed the Midland (at $50 a person).

They were not shortchanged. He gave them a show that lasted as long as an arena show — nearly two hours — and comprised more than 20 songs. It lacked some of the lavish visual treats of the arena show, but it compensated for that by being inherently more intimate. (And though the sound was fine on the floor, it got weaker as you moved upstairs, especially in the top level).

The set list included most of his standards and hits: “Devil Without a Cause,” which opened the show, “Cocky,” “Cowboy,” “Bawitadaba,” “All Summer Long” and “Only God Knows Why.” It also showcased his versatility.

Thank you for using your talent and fame to CARE and help people in need. I would attend another concert in a heartbeat because I know the money would be going to a good cause. In return I get to see an amazing talented musician with his spectacular band that always perform their best and blow me away every time. Thank you again for choosing Kansas City for part of the CARE tour. I can't wait for you to come back again!

We were upstairs on the balcony and the sound was just fine. Almost perfect. The show as alway was awesome. I would see him again in that venue anytime. Kid Rock demands the stage and does not disappoint. We also say him at the Sprint Center in February and still can't tell you which show I like better. Totally different shows but both absolutely unbelieveable.

Thank YOU KR, TBT & CREW for giving to US a wonderful show. Especially being performed in the club venues and having the ticket prices be extremely fair for all. The fact that you are giving the money to charity is a ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++. God Bless You All!!!! As we all know, it's better to give, than to receive. :)

More celebrities should walk the walk, talk the talk. Most get behind causes for the publicity and reallly just give some face time and money. Kid Rock is true to his soul. He gives so much to our country, his community and Michigan. Love ya Bobby!

Sounds like a great time! Oh how I would have loved to go to one more of his shows with in the week (but 2 will do). Kid Rock really does "care" you can see the emotion in him when he talks about charitable work. I am sure, as others have stated, that the statement was either taken out of context of misunderstood.

Absolutely amazing energy! LOVED the intimate venue to be able to connect with him and the band in a personal way. Thank you Kid Rock and band for an unbelieveable performance, really enjoyed every minute of it!

SO AWESOME!!! Great comment by @ KASSROCK and I so agree!!! :)

The first thing I want to say is..where Kid said "This is the last thing on the list of things I like to do"..he said that because (if I am accurate) he doesn't like to "announce" when he contributes to anyone or charity. In the Piers Morgan interview..Peirs brought up a couple instances where Kid had given to persons he had read about in the city newspaper..where he and tbt were performing that nite. Piers said he had "dug this up" and Kid responded that he didn't like to publicize such things. The second thing is that I don't agree with the KC Star reporter saying that the "sound got weaker as you moved upstairs, especially in the top level"...I was not upstairs..but after such a giving concert in such a small venue..how could you say anything negative? I think that was in poor taste..and wrong..just my opinion. This was my 10th KR and TBT concert and it was so totally AWESOME!!! It was def for the fans as Kid said...I came expecting a more laid back..intimate show..but I was blown awayyy..it totally ROCKED and was the best KR and TBT I have seen. The smallest venue before this was my first KR concert at Muncipal Auditorium...Just the vibe..and the reason behind the show and the music...omgoodness..there are no words!!! I will never forget that nite..:) God Bless Kid Rock and TBT...Thanks so much :)

That was an AWESOME show. I was looking forward to seeing KID ROCK ! He is a skowman. Thanks for being one to CARE

I really don't understand the comment that "its one of the least favorite things Kid likes to do. Dude you put on a hell of a show, I've only seen one Comerica Sat Aug 13th,in the "D" and you are way too cocky for your own good but great show, one of the reason I continue to support and defend you is because I get it that you "CARE" and you do sooo much for fans and charities. Keep up the great work and take "CARE" of your self. your way too good to burn out too soon. OH yea and a year and 1moth from now I"M turnin FUCKIN 50. better start writing that song cause the 40's go by fast. LOL thanks for keeping it real.
