I am a musician. I did not attend college and barley made it out of high school. I try my hardest to keep my ticket prices low, THIS I HAVE CONTROL OF.!! I can not control nor do i understand how the fuck the scalpers and all the secondary websites and bullshit get them. IF I COULD CONFRONT EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM FACE TO FACE I WOULD AND IT WOULD NOT WORK OUT TO WELL FOR THEM I GAURANTEE ALL OF YOU. I hate them, i feel like someone is beating up a close friend or family member while im chained to a chair. I try to understand it, i try to ask my managers and people in the buisness i know to help me understand it, but it seems they dont either. The only way i know right now to stop it is to not buy from these people or wait till the last minute when there scared they cant sell em and have to sell them cheap. I am not gonna apologize for something i cant control and it you wanna hate or blame me for it, go for it. But if your really pissed about it, research it and try to find out why its going on and let me know. alot of us are trying to figure out a better way, trust me, the last thing i want is some bottom of the barrel lazy fuck who wont get a real job ripping off my fans to get rich. And no, this post was not consulted w my mangers or publicist, they would probly say not to post it, but thats not how i do things. This is right from my computer to yours. I hope it helps to understand at least how i feel about people trying to get tickets in my fan club or any other way that turns out to be a let down, THAT IS NOT MY INTENTION OR WHY I GOT INTO MUSIC AT ALL. Maybe i should shut down the fan club, because i dont want anyone to think im screwing them and i cant keep the "bottom feeders" from joining it, YET! I try to think of better ways to do things all the time, especially for the fans, but my main focus is always my son and then writing good songs, without those two things, nothing is happening. I will keep my mind spinning trying to figure out a better way to get good tickets to my true fans, and it brings to mind a new song on the new cd "the least that i can do is care" unfortunatley thats not gonna be enuff in this case. trust me im on top of this and doing what i can. thx

Hi - Saw you at dinner last night (we were at the main bar when you left). Really wanted to say hello, but didn't want to bother you. Now I feel bad about not saying hi - since you walked right past me at the bar when you left. What I wanted to say was Thank you for the tribute to Michigan at the AMA's. It was wonderful and we all appreciate you so much. Maybe someday I'll get to say hello. It was good to see you. All the best -

Thanks, Kid. Currently serving in Afghanistan and can't wait to get home in FEB 2001 so I can make it to the show in Louisville. Couldn't get any of the $100 seats but got some good lower arena seats (8) for me and my buds and our bitches. Never missed a Kid rock or ZZTOP concert as long as I live. Some people don't understand the new music but I'm here to tell you to keep on doing it like you're doin. I've listened to some of Jamey's music too and I think you're gonna have a great show. Thanks for the free download of "Born Free" for us troops, too. Listen to every day and it helps when I go out on missions. Stay safe, my brother and I'll see you in "Da Ville" in 2011!!!! Peace!

I used to work for the company that merged with TM mentioned below. I took orders via phone for all event tickets. The venues have contracts with ticketing agencies like TM and the artists cannot do anything about that unless they do not want to play there. If that happened, we as fans would not have the opportunity to see these artists. Granted, it's not 100% of the venues but it is all of the shows that you see for sale on TM (the majority). We used to fight over which 1st day on sale concerts we wanted to work because some shows were so outrageously priced, it was a nightmare listening to the upset customers (I understood their frustration but after 3000 to 5000 calls, well you get the picture). I always worked the Kid Rock sales because he keeps his prices reasonable, even with the additional fees. The other thing, which if totally off topic, was that certain artists have the most obnoxious unreasonable fans. The best fans were, without a doubt, KR fans. The truth is TM is who we as fans get upset with, but it's a combination of several greedy businesses that have caused these problems. Red tape, my grandfather used to talk about it all the time, I finally get it. Peace, good luck with getting your tickets, and always check TM periodically, especially as it gets closer to the show, you'd be surprised how often tickets show up (like the middle of the night).

Carrie, you cleared a lot up, that is what I found also, it is different in every state, city, township etc. Everyone can make their own law. It needs to be cleared up state by state, either legal or not, My husband got ticketed for trying to resell a Red Wing tkt that his friend paid for but couldn't use at the last minute, Wings tkts are hot sellers here, he did not want more than what was spent and would have sold it for lower just to recoup some money for his friend. We just paid the fine, but apparently you can butt f*** people over the internet and that is fine but what my husband tried to do is criminal. Starting to think the scheming pieces of nothing come in first all the time.

Dear Bob, I checked your site to see if you had dates for the Clev-Pgh area when I stumbled on your comments about ticket scalping. I agree with your stance and looked up some info about it. Laws governing scalping are controversial & complex. Oh (my state) has given control of ticket re-sales to the local govt's, so you have to follow the city or township laws which either outlaw sales or allows them with a small price increase (oh revised code 715.48) MI strictly forbids scalping. Here is a govt website that breaks down scalping laws by state: http://www.cga.ct.gov/2006/rpt/2006-R-0761.htm I also found that promoters and other insiders like ticket brokers have been known to bribe authorized ticket agents to buy large quantities of tickets. This is called ICE and it's generally a misdemeanor or the agent can have their license suspended. An interesting case to check out is the WISEGUYS trial. U.S. v. Lowson, 10-cr-114, U.S. District Court, District of New Jersey. 3 men dubbed the WISEGUYS are accused of beating computer security to buy and scalp 1.5 million tickets. They had technology to beat CAPTCHA (which requires users to read and re-type jumbled letters). They re-sold their tickets making more than $28.9 Million from 2005-2008. I would lobby lawmakers to crack down on this and make a psa to help people become aware of the problem. Best of luck & happy birthday, Carrie cnemi@wfmj.com **Is the car on the born free album the same one Webb Pierce had on his Cross Country album? My Grandmother is a huge fan of his & thought I recognized the car.

I really applaud KR that he cares......... however once you sell your concert tix on TicketBastard you really can't complain about "scalping". First, there's TicketMaster excessive fees: convience, order processing , ticket pick-up, facility, handling fees and on & on. This alone is a HUGE rip-off. Something lik $500,000 for ford field show that TicketBardard pocketed in 18 minutes. They get sued all the time and if it weren't for their multi-million dollar legal team , they'd be outta business. Now how bout this: once u purchase ur tix on TicketBastard, they allow you to re-sell (broker/sclap) your tix on their "TicketExchange" program which they charge you another 10%, thus encouraging you to mark-up these tix even more. Bottom Line: the monoply of TicketMaster (which recently bought out LiveNation, their only true competion) basically allows legal scalping is only duplicated by others down the concert tix food chain. I'm sure people look at it like "if TicketBastard makes their $$$, then I'll make mine". Sad but true & it don't make it right. I plan on hittin several shows on this tour, ROCK on Bobbie !!!!!

It appears that possibly some have misconstued my posts. At no time have I written or implied anything critical of Kid Rock. I applaud his effort, his talent, and his love for this state which so many others have abandoned. He is one of our own and is a representitive of us throughout the world. I think that his love and passion for his craft and his home state are to be complimented. We owe him a debt of gratitude and given the chance, that is exactly what I would say to him. If this is that chance, so be it: "Kid Rock, I salute you! You are an excellent musician, songwriter, and entertainer. I have no doubt that you are a good friend. You are a fine spokeperson for many, in your own inimitable way! You represent us well and I am proud to call you a fellow Michigander! Keep up the good work and keep spreading the word!"

Jen32, what I have posted on this site has nothing to do with Robert, but rather the bottom feeders that make it almost impossible, if not affordable to buy tickets. Read before you post please :)

kid rock is trying his best and I think you all should cut him some slack and back off a bit he has a son if you dont like what I had to say tough luck
Michiganrockfan's picture

I think that your point is that you have some seats for sale and figure that this is a good place to advertise them. Maybe the criticism is a little profane but the gleam in your customers eyes is offset by the tears in the eyes of many on here. A blog about scalping and possible remedies is a strange place to seek future sales. I guess we all got our daily dose of irony here today!
iamblessed's picture

Danielman, do you have four tickets at regular price that my husband and I could buy from you for the Dow event center in Saginaw. I can't for the life of me believe that you are as selfish as your post's come across. I am willing to pay ONLY the regular price. Please, this meant the world to me.
danielman's picture

You should have seen the gleam in the eye of the couple that bought my tix today though! I usually deal over the internet exclusively but sold this through cl since stubhub didn't have the dadgum show up yet. You are getting too caught up in cursing and ad hominem attacks. My whole point is that Kid and the other artists could drive down prices by having more concerts or selling tix at the venue day of for the best seats.
Michiganrockfan's picture

Daniel, it wasn't enough that you landed some great seats, you came on here to gloat and advertise. Now you're taunting the very people that already disliked you intensely. You must love the hate! I checked out your "ad" and see that you have almost 3500 transactions with ebay in the last nine years. I also checked out your ebay store. The site would suggest that you do more than dabble in the ticket business. While the system allows you to capitalize on your connections and abilities, a little discretion and empathy would go a long way here. Advertising on this site borders on arrogance and is a direct slap at Kid Rock and his fans. While you may eventually get what you are asking for the tickets that you have, I would say that it is a safe bet that the buyer does not come from this site. You are the personification of everything that so many detest in brokers! In fact, I know a lot of brokers and you are an embarrassment to them!
iamblessed's picture

danielman, I am not miserable. I am Disgusted. You say, "But why not make a couple easy extra thousand a year when the system allows it?" Fuck you, you miserable opportunist! You say you live comfortably, and a thousand bucks a year makes a difference? You are talking out your ass. A thousand bucks is nothing! Like I said, people like you make me sick. You just don't get it do you? People like you took something from me. I have always done things the right way, and people like you stick it in my ass this time. Have you NO conscience? You just go ahead and sit behind your computer screen and laugh at me if it helps your cause. When you lay your head on your pillow tonight, I want you to think of what you helped deny me, a night out with my husband, a well deserved nightout I might add.
danielman's picture

Not bragging, just pointing out ways he could fix things if he really could and how my services allow fans to get tickets they wouldn't have been able to otherwise. The artists could easily fix the problem if they realized the laws of supply and demand and adjust the factors the can (supply) or in the case of Kid at least listen to what his managers tell him if they actually understand these principles. And danielboywannabe?? So is that saying I am a man but "wannabe" a boy?? I can see man wannabe...think about it and get back to me lol.
Cindy_107's picture

daneilman? ha! such an inappropriate name,,,more like danielboywannabe. YOU know more than Kid? You're the expert. What an ass. Thats why you scalp tickets. Think you profited? Karma baby...it'll come back and bite you. Posting your email address. I think you should be removed from here...bragging about your low life way of making a buck off Kid Rocks concerts.
danielman's picture

Garth is another example of this strategy. He opened up nine concerts saturating the market with tickets driving the prices down to in some cases less than half face value.
Michiganrockfan's picture

My last post dwelled on one aspect of the problem. Here are a few suggestions for consideration. Block all sales outside the immediate area. When a fan can access seats for a show in another state, so can brokers. Thousands of seats are sold to people that have no intention of going to the show but geography and a lenient system allow them to punch seats. Limit the seats to those in the immediate area of the show and you cut off the potential abuse outstate. Paperless tickets are a pain in the neck for almost everyone, but they severely hinder the aftermarket. Will call tickets which require a photo ID and the credit/debit card used to purchase, then immediate entry into the venue after picking up, goes a long way to deter ticket transfer. Multiple shows by the artist, not always a possibility, undercuts the secondary market. Double the supply, you cut the demand in half. About 15 years ago, Bob Seger played a series of six shows at the Palace. On the heels of Purple Rain, Prince played Joe Louis until everyone had seen it! Finally, clamp down on ebay and Craigslist. The very instrument (computers and internet) that make it possible to acquire the tickets have turned everyone into a potential broker. While almost everyone would agree that a person walking the sidewalk in front of the venue selling tickets for two or three times face is scalping, online sales are somehow considered acceptable, or worse, legal. Some, like a recent post, will even rationalize that they are providing a service and are somehow honorable for doing so. There is no simple solution to this problem because there will always be someone willing to pay extra for the convenience (I've done it) and someone willing to put in the extra effort to secure the seats and sell for a profit.
danielman's picture

IAMBLESSED: I have a job and live a very comfortable life. But why not make a couple easy extra thousand a year when the system allows it? My point was that this is a problem with the system and like MICHIGAN said if someone takes out the head of the problem it can be stopped. You not buying tickets is not going to fix anything as there are plenty of fans that are willing to pay. It only makes you miserable. Or you can check out my ad: http://cgi.ebay.com/2-Tickets-Kid-Rock-1-15-Ford-Field-Detroit-/350343769735?pt=US_Tickets_all_in_one&hash=item51921dae87#ht_4734wt_1139 danielman1@hmamail.com

KRLO, I thank you for your empathy. One of my daughters is so bewildered that her mom is upset, because they have never witnessed me being "all about me". But she also knows how important this was for me. She said, "mom, just go on ebay, or buy from a scalper outside the arena, they're all over the place mom!" I quickly reminded her I'd be giving back to the bottom feeders that caused this situation in the first place! She understood then. As for you daneilman; Who the fuck are you? FUCK you, you gloating prick, you justify your teeny profit because you made some guy and his wife happy? You don't care if they were "true" fans or not. You are stealing from people, no matter how you slice it. You sir, are the definition of a whistle dick, useless. Why don't you get a real job. People like you make me sick.
Michiganrockfan's picture

Kid, I admire your indignation with the problem, but I am wondering something: how can you condemn the brokers that are cashing in on your success (at your fans expense) yet say nothing about the fact that TICKETMASTER charged $12.70 in service fees for a $30.00 ticket for your show at Ford Field? Ticketmaster added over a 40% markup for printing the ticket. (The $85.00 seats had a $16.95 fee added.) Brokers, or anyone in the business world, would love a gauranteed 40% profit margin. Carry this math out further and you will see that Ticketmaster took in over a half million dollars for your birthday show alone! 45,000 tickets x $12.70 (minimum) per ticket service fee = $571,500.00. Pretty nice haul for one nights work! They didn't build the building, didn't write any of the songs, didn't construct the stage, entertain anyone, etc., yet they made off with a King's Ransom! Pretty good pay for printing some tickets! I would think that for a half million dollars, you could have hired someone else to sell the tickets. Oh wait, that isn't posssible because Ticketmaster is a monopoly and owns the rights to sell concert tickets at Ford Field and virtually every other concert venue in America. I would suggest that you look at the problem of scalping from another angle: Instead of concentrating on those that benefit the most obviously from it, the brokers, instead focus on those that coupld prevent it but don't! The technology exists to monitor every ticket sold, yet no one does it. A simple post sellout audit could track every ticket sold. If you find that 100's or even 1,000's of tickets are being sold in some other state, you can rest assured that those tickets are headed for the secondary market. Brokers are the obvious target for anger but they are just the benefactors of a system that allows it. To stop the problem, find the source. Cut off the head, the body will wither away. Then the biggest problem will be fans that scalp their fellow fans!
danielman's picture

If Kid really doesn't understand the market forces behind the scalping industry he just doesn't have much going on. Sorry. He and his venues make a lot of money off the presales. Other artists like Garth, Hagar and Springsteen have ways they beat scalpers. If kid wanted to he could too. Problem is at the end of the day he doesn't lose a dime over scalping, and still has arenas full of fans to play for. I just sold two tickets for over $75 markup today. Did I deprive someone of a ticket on ticketmaster? Yes. But I was able to offer a true fan some great tickets that he and his wife were more than thrilled to receive. Without people like me these fans would have no avenue to see the show. If they are willing to pay face value and more I am willing to bet they are true fans too. Just because you aren't unemployed and poor doesn't mean you can't be a "true kid rock fan." Sorry but this is the truth. danielman1@hmamail.com

IAMBLESSED, understand your tears, and sailor mouth, tried for Pine Knob w/ no luck, words flew out of my mouth I didn't know that I knew, if that makes any sense. I have 2 in college and one about to attend, so I understand no $ for yourself, all goes to kids, as it should be, but one concert for you and your friends is not too much to ask for, There is no easy answer to scalping, think first and foremost no one buys from scalpers, think that is the basis of supply and demand, no demand, supply is worthless, Next maybe we write our state reps and senators to address this problem. I realize MI has bigger fish to fry, but brokers and scalpers have an advantage over all regular moral people, they will go to any length to sell their mother or rip off their neighbor. I don't have the ability or means to scoop up tickets for resale, and if In did have the means, and ability, I wouldn't, because it is just wrong. Never once while reading your post did I think you were blaming Kid. Good luck to your kids going to college.
iamblessed's picture

I am 51 years old, wanted to take my husband and my cousin and his wife to see Robert in Saginaw Mi. I sat at my computer for 15 minutes until ticketmaster opened selling, I hit on it exactly at 10am. Before I knew it, it was 11am. I tried to call the box office, busy, busy, busy. NOT being able to get tickets drove me to tears, and trust me, it takes a lot, I've raised two daughters, and I thought my tears had all gone away ;( I have spent the past 18 years of my life buying tickets for disney on ice, anything my daughters wanted, we did for them. With my girls heading off to college in Jan. I thought AWESOME, finally a date with my husband, and another couple, we are going to FINALLY spend some cash on tickets for US!! (this is where it gets ugly) I was SO PISSED OFF! I weaved a ribbon of words in my home that would make a sailor blush...I don't ask for much in this fucking life, I just wanted four tickets...FUCK!! I don't understand what pre-sale bullshit is, I guess I'm not as smart as I thought I was, I was going by what the venue said, tickets go on sale at 10am sharp! I see e-bay is loaded with tickets, how these fucks do that I'll never know, and don't care to. What I do know is they took, no they stole an opportunity from four true fans of Roberts music, I'm not a fan of his, I don't know him, and will probably never meet him, but I love his music, it brings back my youth.....I'll will tell you, I am NOT going to buy tickets from a scalper, dirty bastards that they are, but if they at all have a heart and read this, you pricks made me cry, you can kiss my ass too. P.S. to you kid rock fans that read this, I'm not attacking Robert himself, only the fucking bottom feeders.
