There's no reason to work for the man in this wonderful country of ours. Just met with my husbands , now my business partner to go over the details of the new company . He and my spouse ave been working on patents for sometime and he's has quite a few and other ventures and seeing how he has some free time now we decided upon our venture of passive income bringing in about 15 g a day to start. I'm gonna be busy doing the marketing portion since I have all the contacts until it gets going and off the ground and then well, fishing, writing a few songs.
Love when the arenas, be it The Joe, Palace, Ford Field, or Comerica, play Boston's 'Can't stop Believing.' Each and every fan stands up and sings at the top of their lungs. "BORN AND RAISED IN SOUTH DETROIT." We have a Southwest side and a Southeast side, we have a Northwest and a Northeast side, but no South Detroit, that is why we sing that so loud, cuz our South Detroit neighbors are actually our fine neighbors whom live in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. So proud of the Wings tonight. WOW, we have to keep this game going. GO WINGS!!!
It just never gets old to me -- the incomparable sound of Stevie Ray Vaughan's music. Lately his CDs have been getting non-stop play at my house. HE JUST SHOULD NOT BE DEAD!!! He died too soon. Of course, the same could be said about so many singers and musicians, such as -- for starters:
Elvis, John Lennon, George Harrison, Glenn Miller, Billie Holiday, Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison and Patsy Cline to name just a few; and, from the so-called 27 Club: Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain and sadly, of course, the latest addition being Amy Winehouse.
Besides our mutual love for Kid Rock, we all have different interests and tastes in music, and we all come from different eras and walks of life. So, upon hearing the sad news of a great singer or musician's untimely death, the twinge of heartbreak varies among us.
I mean I LOVE ELVIS -- now. But, I was young when he died, and so I didn't fully grasp the magnitude of his passing. After all, they're talking about the singer who wears the funny white suits with the long side-burns; and, although I liked his songs well enough, what WAS all the fuss about?!! Of course, not long after, I would realize that there was a lot more to Elvis Presley than what my 12-year-old eyes perceived.
And, not to say the MURDER of John Lennon didn't make me very mad and sad; but, had I been a teenager when the Beatles invaded America (George was my favorite ; ) I'm sure the sense of loss would have been much deeper. The suicides of Kurt Cobain and Michael Hutchence were hard to hear, as was the latest news about Amy Winehouse.
But, for me, I'd say it's Stevie Ray's death that affected me the most. Not sure I can explain why exactly. Maybe it's my LOVE of Blues music, or the fact that he's one of the greatest guitarist of all time? Or perhaps because, at the time of his death, he wasn't on the road to self-destruction with addictions; but, instead died from a tragic helicopter accident -- making the news about his death that much harder to hear. And, beyond his awesome talent, he just seemed like a great guy. But, in the end, the affect of one's death doesn't need to be "qualified" of course.
With that being said -- which singer or musician's death affected you the most?
PS: SRV was nominated for 12 Grammys, and won six. He won five W. C. Handy Awards and was posthumously inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 2000.

PSS: Kid Rock's gonna live to a ripe old age -- still rockin' in his rocking chair, on the wrap-around porch at his farm house enjoying the scenery -- just so you know, so we won't even "entertain the thought"!

I am way younger than the tragedy of the 1959 plane crash that killed Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper. But as I was reading your post, this song came to mind:
"Bye bye Miss American Pie
Drove My Chevy to the levy but the levy was dry
Them good ole' boys are drinking whisky and rye
Singing this will be the day that I die...
This will be the day that I die..."
Also too young for the Queen Miss Patsy Cline who died in a plane crash on March 5, 1963.
Even though I wasn't born until '77, I can say that these artists have had a huge impact on my life, as they were always playing on my Dad's car stereo when I was growing up.
I would say, that the artists death that has affected me the most in my own lifetime would have to be Kurt Cobain...as I was a grunge girl in my teens. Also being from Washington, Kurt was kind of a hero for us here (and still is to some extent). Live on baby doll dresses and combat boots!!! (lol with love and memories, not that I still wear that particular style)
I'm one, not till after he died though, My husband is a huge fan, I liked his music but I wasn't nuts about it, When my husband got news of his death, he called to talk because was on a business trip for the entire month. it really upset him, That was when I stopped with the Disney Channel music crap for my one year old and started putting on real music. Now I can proudly say my children all have SRV on their iPods.
Oh, that's right, I forgot about John Denver and how he died!! I knew I was bound to leave some notables out like he and Croce, but how on earth did I forget about Marvin Gaye?!! He's probably gonna be next to get played non-stop. Thanks RSMS.
I will never forget when Elvis died.... It was felt throughout my whole family and community... I was only around 9 yrs old....but I knew as I watched my mom cry, that was a truly special man.... My mom (now 60yr), still gets goosebumps when she hears his voice....
When my son got his first Ipod at 9yrs old.... I loaded it with the oldies.... Lots of Elvis, Johnny Cash, Beatles, BeachBoys, and Motown.... I wanted him to know the music I loved....and to appreciate where music came from....before he got into the Lady GaGa crap.. there is no soul in her music....just sounds......
heard SRV on the radio today and thought of your post LK. He was something.
October 3, 1954 -- August 27, 1990 --- booo!!!! :`(

Jim Croce and John Denver would have had some nice songs, too, as would have Marvin Gaye.
Stevie sure was the best.
