I MISS STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN : (

It just never gets old to me -- the incomparable sound of Stevie Ray Vaughan's music. Lately his CDs have been getting non-stop play at my house. HE JUST SHOULD NOT BE DEAD!!! He died too soon. Of course, the same could be said about so many singers and musicians, such as -- for starters:

Elvis, John Lennon, George Harrison, Glenn Miller, Billie Holiday, Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison and Patsy Cline to name just a few; and, from the so-called 27 Club: Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain and sadly, of course, the latest addition being Amy Winehouse.

Besides our mutual love for Kid Rock, we all have different interests and tastes in music, and we all come from different eras and walks of life. So, upon hearing the sad news of a great singer or musician's untimely death, the twinge of heartbreak varies among us.

I mean I LOVE ELVIS -- now. But, I was young when he died, and so I didn't fully grasp the magnitude of his passing. After all, they're talking about the singer who wears the funny white suits with the long side-burns; and, although I liked his songs well enough, what WAS all the fuss about?!! Of course, not long after, I would realize that there was a lot more to Elvis Presley than what my 12-year-old eyes perceived.

And, not to say the MURDER of John Lennon didn't make me very mad and sad; but, had I been a teenager when the Beatles invaded America (George was my favorite ; ) I'm sure the sense of loss would have been much deeper. The suicides of Kurt Cobain and Michael Hutchence were hard to hear, as was the latest news about Amy Winehouse.

But, for me, I'd say it's Stevie Ray's death that affected me the most. Not sure I can explain why exactly. Maybe it's my LOVE of Blues music, or the fact that he's one of the greatest guitarist of all time? Or perhaps because, at the time of his death, he wasn't on the road to self-destruction with addictions; but, instead died from a tragic helicopter accident -- making the news about his death that much harder to hear. And, beyond his awesome talent, he just seemed like a great guy. But, in the end, the affect of one's death doesn't need to be "qualified" of course.

With that being said -- which singer or musician's death affected you the most?

PS: SRV was nominated for 12 Grammys, and won six. He won five W. C. Handy Awards and was posthumously inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 2000.
