I am a musician. I did not attend college and barley made it out of high school. I try my hardest to keep my ticket prices low, THIS I HAVE CONTROL OF.!! I can not control nor do i understand how the fuck the scalpers and all the secondary websites and bullshit get them. IF I COULD CONFRONT EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM FACE TO FACE I WOULD AND IT WOULD NOT WORK OUT TO WELL FOR THEM I GAURANTEE ALL OF YOU. I hate them, i feel like someone is beating up a close friend or family member while im chained to a chair. I try to understand it, i try to ask my managers and people in the buisness i know to help me understand it, but it seems they dont either. The only way i know right now to stop it is to not buy from these people or wait till the last minute when there scared they cant sell em and have to sell them cheap. I am not gonna apologize for something i cant control and it you wanna hate or blame me for it, go for it. But if your really pissed about it, research it and try to find out why its going on and let me know. alot of us are trying to figure out a better way, trust me, the last thing i want is some bottom of the barrel lazy fuck who wont get a real job ripping off my fans to get rich. And no, this post was not consulted w my mangers or publicist, they would probly say not to post it, but thats not how i do things. This is right from my computer to yours. I hope it helps to understand at least how i feel about people trying to get tickets in my fan club or any other way that turns out to be a let down, THAT IS NOT MY INTENTION OR WHY I GOT INTO MUSIC AT ALL. Maybe i should shut down the fan club, because i dont want anyone to think im screwing them and i cant keep the "bottom feeders" from joining it, YET! I try to think of better ways to do things all the time, especially for the fans, but my main focus is always my son and then writing good songs, without those two things, nothing is happening. I will keep my mind spinning trying to figure out a better way to get good tickets to my true fans, and it brings to mind a new song on the new cd "the least that i can do is care" unfortunatley thats not gonna be enuff in this case. trust me im on top of this and doing what i can. thx

Closing down the fan site is not the solution, your true fans only end up hurt. Going to the show in January would have been awesome but hopefully we'll see you this summer. I am in Ontario and try to get to whatever shows you do that are near by. My husband and I have enjoyed your shows and understand that unfortunately that greed does exist so we do our best to avoid the greed the best we can. I'm glad you wrote to us, your fans, it really shows the person you are. We watched a documentary on the weekend on MTV about your upcoming tour and it was great, thanks for allowing all of us into your life for that brief moment. Keep being real and standing up for what you believe in, I know I do and sometimes you don't make friends because of it but I say, whatever, fuck em. Everyone needs people who are real around them, no time for phonies, the greedy and petty.

My friend and I considered this show, mostly because you are throwing yourself an awesome celebration and sure to have some special guest appearances by additional talent. Also, my friend is from Detroit. The cold and the fact that I assumed they would go fast-I mean come on-it will be one of your best all time concerts, of which I hope that you will record a live album and that will be the way I hear it?! We live in Utah and know you won't come here, so we are waiting for some of your western releases, where I know presales will pay off (or somewhere warm like Florida). My girlfriend said that the concert sold out in 3 minutes and asked if we want to try scalpers and I said, no, I don't give them my money (this was without even knowing the story here). At the palms, I did get my tickets presale, they were about 100 a piece, two friends could not go at the last minute and asked us to try and get face value for them-because of the number of scalpers I could not even get 1/2 of face value (scalpers were burned on that show because so few people showed up last minute to get tickets that they had to sell them low, it made me happy!) but it also bummed me out that I spent 30 minutes of my precious time trying to get my friends hard earned money back when I would have NEVER sold them for more than face value. Just not cool, but it is part of life in capitialist America. I am a lucky person, single mom with a good job who can occasionally afford to treat myself to a worthy show where my alter ego can come out...I appreciate your honesty and emotion on this issue. One thing I wish? That you would succumb to Itunes-for artists I love, like yourself, I usually end up purchasing the entire album, for many reasons, but sometimes it is nice to buy them as you fall in love with them. Looking foward to West Coast dates and to a live album from your Birthday Party?! have fun, stay true and keep putting your son first-that will pay off more than anything.

We got your back Kid! Everything you do is great and I have a lot of respect for you. If ppl are bitching about paying too much then wake up and deal with it. I can't afford to pay some of these prices but you do what you gotta do. Thank you for everything that you do, you are a very genuine person and your fans know it. Take care and lots of love to you.

Thanks for the feedback. I tried to get tickets to the Ford Field show and couldn't because it was sold out. Maybe it's a sign from god telling me I can't afford it (since I'd have to fly there from Jersey) haha. But I hate to think that tickets may have not been available because of money hungry assholes sucking up all the tickets just to scalp them. Thank you so much for all that you do & for reaching out to the fans as much as you can. I hope that bad experiences don't deter you from continuing to do so & I also hope you wouldn't shut down the fan club. One thing I REALLY appreciate is that the people from the Chillin the Most cruise had first dibs at the next cruise. I can't say enough how cool that is!!! It really felt like we all had something special. For as long as you do that cruise I will be there, for as long as you tour I will be there and for as long as you make music I will be there. To you we are just the tiniest little speck in a sea of faces but just know that some of us have been there all along and always will be there. Wish I could be there for your birthday, but much love to you. ~Daisy

Great Post! We know its not YOUR FAULT! You do not have control over who buys the tickets and what they do with them. Scalping has been around forever. I hate scalpers just as much as the next guy, but we end up buying them becuase we want to see our favorite performers that much. I was so excited to get tickets for your 40th bday show at Ford Field for by fiance for Christmas. We were not able to get tickets to the last two shows because we didnt have the money, but I thought I would suprise him with tickets this time! Well, that didnt happen! I couldnt believe it sold out that fast. I went online to check out the "slimeballs" on Craigslist and Ebay. OMG! there is no way I can pay $300 for two tickets and those are the cheap ones!!! I cant believe we are going to miss out on another show! Im glad I didnt tell him what I was up to because he would be so disappointed. (again) Hope to see you at DTE this year....or maybe I will get lucky and find some decent priced tickets for your bday show!! I know this will be the Kid Rock Show that will top all the rest. I hope something comes up that more tickets are released.

You do your fans good everyday! Born Free is excellent and now I love Jamey Johnson since i saw you play In Color @ the Meadowlands for Bon Jovi. I had KRC Presale tickets for Kid Rock/Bon Jovi and it was great!. Saw you 3 times last year, Jones Beach, Terminal 5 & Meadowlands. As always you were just amazing. I will see you at every show in NY/NJ when you announce dates for the North East I will be there. I just renewed my KRC membership just to have the opportunity for Pre-Sale seats. Fuck the haters! You Rock! Jesse

Thank you Kid, for the post. We all know you have a heart of Gold & this post shows whats in your heart. Many things in life are beyond our control. Please, don't close your Fan Club page !!!

I am not sure why people are pissed off...i bought my tickets the old fashioned way by calling ticket master. i tried buying tickets on the presale date but my computer is way to slow. I have not and will not buy anything from those lowlifes that sell outside of any event. mostly the cheap ass t-shirts they sell in the parking lots. and by the way my favorite song on the new cd is CARE... just keep rocking Richie cause i will pay any price to see you!!!!

GOOD FOR YOU and very well stated!!!!!!! I absolutely LOVE your work, as an extremely talented artist and as a "person" and single father. Kudos for all you that you do and all you believe in! I don't think you have to apologize for the bottom feeders, there are rotten people everywhere, it's up to people like you to show America that there really IS good people out there. You do what you can, and that's all that us Fans care about. At least the "true" fans! We'll keep on supporting you through all of the ups and downs. I've been to 3 of your shows already (all in Wisconsin) and and thanks to your Fan Club Pre-sale, me and my "ladies" are making the drive from Green Bay, WI to your Birthday Bash. SOOO excited!!! It'll all work out in the end!!! Stay true to who you are and F*ck the rest!!! :o)

I was one of your annoyed Fan Club members. Mostly because I thought I wouldn't have another way to get the tickets I wanted. Fortunately I kept searching and was able to get the $300 VIP tickets from Ticketmaster (even though I really wanted the $800 tickets). I am just very excited to celebrate your 40th with you and 60,000 of your closest friends.

K - your cool. Just relax and keep giving us the music we love.

Some venues have a ticketless option. Is that better? That sucks for the fans that really want to go see you. It better not happen at the concert that I am planning on going to!! We know that it is not your fault. Your true fans do : )
royjenandash's picture

Well, scalpers suck they always have and always will. They will find a way to make a buck. I don't think you will change that. Maybe ticketmaster/Livenation need to figure out a way to fix it. I am unfortunately not going to be at your 40th b-day party. I haven't missed a concert in years!! I even heard you play way back in the early nineties at some parties over on North Ave!! I will miss you but can't swing it right now. I bought the Born Free Deluxe Edition and uploaded to my Itunes and jammin to it right now!! What can I tell you that you don't know? You the Man!!! Keep on doin whatcha doin!! You do it good!!!!
Jeep Girl's picture

This has unfortunately been an issue for so many years....sucks, yes... How about the option of "will call" all ticket sales? All ticket sales would be will call and must be picked up by the purchaser(s) within 48 hours of the actual venue using the same credit card that they were purchased with. If you cannot use the tickets, you will get a refund from TicketMaster (or whomever) and the tickets go back into the pool to be availiable to another person. This would only leave a 48 hour window for the scalpers to get the tickets to their customers. I'm sure it will still happen, but with such a small window for them to work in, the impact will be reduced. I am sure there are some downsides to this option, but just a rambling running thought??

One of the items mentioned is regarding the fan club.. I hate to say it but Artist Arena seems to be a very small company that is not ready and prepared for these situations.. This is just one of the issues not the whole issue around scalpers, etc.. But regarding the fan site, as was witnessed this time by many of us - Page initially loaded with some HUGE image of ford field which took forever to download, you could tell the few web site developers realized this about 15 mins after the presale went on and changed the image to a managable size allowing users into the site - Shouldnt this have been tested prior?! There are other items with Artist Arena that I and others have witnessed.. Maybe one consideration would be a change in who manages the fanclub tickets? I know this will not solve the bigger issue but its a start...

It's just the way it is, we know you don't cause it. Just keep the rock coming, and we will keep coming. No matter what it costs. Love your tunes :)
Samantha Carter's picture

I think just about everything you could do to prevent this in the future would cause ticket prices to increase...but your fans will pay the scalpers so i think they'll still buy a legit ticket if your prices go up. I think it's a good sign for your career that you have this problem to begin with...I saw Bob Dylan (living legend) with Merl Haggard and they don't have this problem! :P Stay true to your mid western heart it's why we love you and why your album sales are doing well. With Love and support Samantha

Hey Kid! Perhaps it's time to put names and address's on the tickets and show ID at the door. Bit of a pain, but really wouldn't be that bad. Easier than getting on a plane! Cheers!!

I am a fan club member and from Grand Blanc. I was able to get two tickets through the presale and will use them myself. My wife and I will probably do an early dinner at The Woodshop and head down to Ford Field. We will also, hopefully, be going to Saginaw the next week. This will be our sixth Kid Rock concert. I would like to thank you Bob, for giving us the music that you do. You have given my wife and I many good memories at your concerts and listening to your albums together. My six year old hasn't stopped singing Born Free for over a week. He is working on lewarning to read, by studying to lyrics in the album cover. I understand the frustration. I have paid scalpers for the tickets in the past. That's not your fault, but I would love to see a Garth Brooks style ticketing for your shows. Be ticketless and require ID to get tickets at the shows. I have no idea how difficult that would be to do since you are not in one location every night, or what is even involved at the base level. Let's face it, greed is not going away anytime soon. While you and your crew continue to seek improvement, don't let the haters defeat you. Your fan club may have members that are fraudulent, but there are so many others that are not. Look at the caring that people, including myself, have that want to but together a food/clothing drive at the Ford Field show. If I could get a response, i would really like to get that put together. Please don't let the greed of some ruin it for the true fans. There has got to be a way to fix the system. Your love for your fans and respect that you have for the dollars that we spend to see you is remarkable. The fact that you have posted this letter shows your character and passion for who you are, what you do and all of us.

I completely understand it's not your fault and I am keeping my fingers crossed I get tix for your Chicago show. I am new to your fan club and have been reading all these comments. I do have ideas on how to control the scalping and I am happy to share them with u if u r interested. I also have other observations or ideas about how to better showcase your music to a wider audience. Last but not least, I have ideas about the way your Twitter, FB, etc pages are being utilized. Happy to share those as well. I am not Some whacked out fan trying to get. Close to you. I just love ur music and would like see you take full advantage of some of the tools available to get your music out . Happy to chat. My email is in your fan club data sorry so long of a note.

Thanks for being honest... I wish I could have waited to the last minute, but I had to make travel arrangements to fly to detroit for the concert... This is why they get away with it... Because someone like me who really wants to attend has to buy or not be able to make travel arrangements... Excited for the 40th Birthday Celebration... I decided to go because I will be turning 40 in February...

Dude. You're normal. That's why people love your work. They (I) can relate. I've got four kids. I went through a rotten divorce. I've lived that hard life and I survived too. Don't beat yourself up. Just keep being you and raising your son. In the end, no matter how successfull a man is, if he wasn't there for his kids, nothin' else matters. Still a fan. -caleb

...Give the scalpers & bottom of the barrel lazy fucks a big, Fuck You!

Hey Kid, I was one of the people that wrote to the fan club upset that I couldn't get tickets. I knew you would want to know about the situation. All your fans in the fan club love you and what you are all about. Selling tickets at affordable costs which I know is difficult is much appreciated. I know you will find a way to beat the brokers that have taken over!! I was fortunate enough to get tickets through ticketmaster, so I will see you at your Birthday Party!! I have been to at least 15 shows, and wouldn't miss it!!! One of your biggest fans :)
Dee T_2's picture

I hate to say this....but what about a limit on the number of tickets you can buy?? Not sure that would work....but just a thought. I was hoping for 5 tickets for me and my fam...wanted to bring my 17 year old son who had a stroke in May.....would have given him something to look forward to after the shitty summer he had in the ICU and rehab....but all tickets are gone! Can't afford to pay higher prices...and refuse to give lowlife scalpers my hard earned money!!

1) Don't shut down your fanclub 2) Continue to be the genuine person you are 3) And most importantly get ready for that kick ass show January 15th! I cannot wait!
