I was telling another KRC member about when I became a Kid Rock fan. And I thought I'd pose the question to the rest of y'all. So, how or why did y'all become fans of his? Below is my story...
I can remember back with I was 16, 17yrs old and I was watching MTV and they were talking with this long haired guy. I had no idea who he was, but I remember thinking, damn he is hot! They introduced him as, "Kid Rock". So then he took the stage and preformed, "Bawitdaba". I LOVED it! I got into my car and went down to the music shop and purchased the, "Devil Without A Cause" tape. I jammed the hell out of that cassette tape for months! Memorized every song. I would sing along with him and my friends would tell me I was nuts and, "Kid Rock sucks".. I didn't care, by then I was in love with the man! LOL I've been a die hard fan ever since! I've only saw him live twice. Let me just say he had me with, "Bawitdaba" and his handsome looks! LOL
Loved Devil, but when I saw his Christmas special, he blew me away. I remember I was holding my baby and watching the special. Kid was amazing. Saw him rock Comerica. Totally hooked at that point!
Cool stuff! I enjoyed reading each and every post! :-)
I bought the "History of Rock" as a teenager and have matured right along with him......am truly inspired by the work since "Rock and Roll Jesus" and have seen him in concert many times. I truly feel blessed to be among such other amazing fans!
@ Lisa Kelly; truer words were never spoken.."he's a walking dichotomy"...
and that is one of the things that makes him the Creative Genius that he is!!!
Always a twist and a turn..never what you expect or think..alway REAL.
1998, not sure how it happened. I was hooked ever since. Have seen him dozens of times in concert, at some other special events and even got to meet him on Howard Stern in 2000! A dream come true :)
PS I was not the crazy chick that asked to get naked!
Seen him on MTV fashion show like Donna said below and was hooked! So ever since Devil Without A Cause. Cocky came out in 2001 and that was around the time I got internet service for the first time. Been following KR & TBT heavy ever since!! Listening to music, reading articles, checking out pictures and of course posting on KR chat boards like this one.
My first live show came shortly after the release of Cocky, and even though I have slowed down big time on my travels all over attending concerts and now more then 40 live shows later, I still love each and every show to this day! KR & TBT put on the very BEST live show in the music industry today and I truly feel that once someone who questions or is just not quite sure of this man and his band, once they attend a show, they themselves see the real truth! That being KR & TBT simply leaving them in awe and wanting more!
KID ROCK AND THE TWISTED BROWN TRUCKER BAND! FOREVER!!
bought the history of rock....but enjoying his last work a lot more than the previous
I'm a later fan...within the last 8 months or so! Sure I heard, loved, and rocked out to Cowboy and Bawitdaba
before that...what really got my attention (and forgive me if you've heard this story before) is when i picked up my Saginaw, Mi paper and the headline was 'Kid Rock to Kick Off tour at The Dow' or something along those lines. Front page! I thought, this guy is great, I have to check him out. Got on this website and looked around, read, saw the Born Free video and was hooked...went to my first show in Jan. 2011, was blown away..went out and bought every KR CD I could get my hands on (thanks,Meijer, lol) Began to notice all the good he does for the D...read all the interviews...the rest is history..:)
Donna i have listened to all kinds of music over the years. From Hank Jr to Zombie. I have seen a lot of music and met a few of those guys too. I have been into all kinds of music due to all kinds influences. From my older brothers to my peers in high school. Know what i mean? I have met several and there are several more i would like to meet.
My tastes are all over the map. If it is good and i like it and hear it i don't care who likes besides me or what they might think of what i listen to. Hell i could pull out old copies of Metal Edge and show you pics of the Kid Rock ad in the back pages. Usually it was on the last page or the back cover if i remember correctly. My paternal Grandma used to listen to Pasty Cline and dance around her kitchen as a kid i remember singing along. Along with Loretta Lynn as well.
It is funny looking back and the memories and attachments we have to them. I can remember the song i was listening to on the way to my sisters funeral. I can recall the best set of lyrics i came up with to express what i felt about it too. I guess you could say when it rains it pours...
2004 and It was because someone wanted me to find out what a KIDROCK was.
I can remember when Kid Rock first came out in a big way. No i am not talking about gay by any means. I remember reading the rock magazines back in the day and hell i read them into my 20's. How else can somebody who enjoys music find out about it pre-internet times? I saw Kid Rock Devil Without a Cause. I remember thinking who the fuck is this? The title was cool, it appealed to me. I was like well let me hear it. After hearing it i was like yeah it is good. But i was just a casual fan for quite awhile. I would hear a Kid Rock song on the radio and jam it. He looked so different. Honestly back in his earlier days music and fashion kind of went together.
He really caught my attention with Rock N' Roll Jesus. Then the first time i saw him live is where i would say i became a true fan of his. I was skeptical prior to that. I saw a video interview with him on some talk show. Kid was all like yeah i play all the instruments. I give the ppl a show and what they paid for. So when i bought that first ticket in 2008 i gave Kid Rock's show a chance. I gotta say i wasn't disappointed either.
So even though i haven't been a tried and true Kid Rock fan as long as some of you i have definitely been a casual one for many years. I guess partly because of coming up in the 80's i was more a rocker. Then i did listen to some Seattle bands. I listened to old school rap like Ice T, Cube, Public Enemy , 2LiveCrew, and a few others. And honestly i haven't listened to much in the last several years other then rock, pop, some country and a lot of Kid Rock. I think for most ppl they go back to their roots to an extent. I am always willing to listen to most new music, i just won't always like it.
Yes! It was like 1998. Some lady was interviewing him before he took the stage. I just keep thinking, I don't know who this guy is but I like what I'm seeing. Then he took the stage and not only was he good looking, he could lay it down musically. Been hooked ever since!
