Tommorrow is ash wednesday which marks the first day of lent. This is a 40 day time period where catholics and even christians alike are called to give something up or sacrifice something in their daily lives as a representation of Jesuss love and sacrifice on the cross for us. Jesus also suffered 40 days and 40 nights in the desert at one point with... was it Lucipher? ( it was the devil to say the least) and was tempted many times by him. I kind of feel my lent came early this year and if i count from the 28th of January n the numbers add up correct i might keel over n faint!! Nyways what are you all giving up for this 40 day sacrifice for our lord?
I love the Lenten and Easter Season. I am currently going through the RCIA process and look forward to the day when i will be able to recieve full communion with the rest of my family, friends, neighbors, and community. I know God has a plan and it is good.

.. a few years back i volunteered at an inner city suop kitchen..St Pauls De Pour Toledo. I was workin in the kitchen n talkin with this older gent. He says to me about lent..n i will never forget this..ever " For lent i give up my nightly glass of wine. I then put a dollar in a jar each night to donate to a family in need at the end of lent. I do this because what good is my sacrifice (just giving up wine) if it does not benefit others (hence the offering in the jar)!"

And just so you know, believers are believers in my eyes; I chose Catholicism b/c it fits me; I leave any judging up to the Almighty. :)
Instead of giving something up, I try to do more 'good deeds', try to be aware of the need in others' eyes.
I'm leading a ladies' bible study for 6 weeks and also the Family Activities for our parish for this season. Our parish is involved in 'Disciples In Mission', it is a 3 year commitment for the parish, and these studies are part of that program. My ladies and I met for the first time in Monday, and they are GREAT!!!
I grew up Lutheran in a German family, but did RCIA myself in 1996 b/4 I married my Catholic hubby. Now I'm teaching Catholics about their religion--lol go figure!

Just an FYI..i was baptized an raised as a baptist..i fell in love with the catholic faith at the age of 18 when my sis married into a catholic family. My grandparents, mom, dad etc are catholic as well. My parents just choose to not raise us (meaning my sis and I) as catholic because at the time i guess.. of us growin up.. they felt a disconnect ( for what reason i dont know, but i do have my ideas) from the church. Either way i am proud of all my roots..cause in the end they trace back to one place..and i gauruntee its the same place for all of us! One love yall!!
Welcome yall to the Easter season...my favorite season and time of year!! Emanuel..he is with us but not for too much longer..the earth is begining to get lighter and the tress leaves spring blossoms are giving way to new life...soon he will be gone again..so walk these 40 days in his footsteps..have and expierence empathy for him (Jesus) as well as others..i bet youd learn n feel alot about your own selves too!! Im going to do lots of prayin on what my sacrifice should be..we have till the mornin anyways : )..nyone else wanna go first? i usually say cookies n screw myself cuz its Girl Scout cookie season lol..lots of us women do that..you d think the girls scouts could plan their timing just a lil better ; )
