    Flag Controversy
    Memphis says (08 Mar '11)

DUDE! I had a large dissertation, extremely literate and intelligent, then lost it...It is probably for the best.

Here is a much shorter version:

I am continually discouraged by the lack of aptitude from the people who are in the position to educate or inform others.

It is the right of every American to have freedom of speech, but to boycott a deserved award to a man because of the use of a "Flag" shows ignorance. If the people involved in the boycott would do a small bit of research on the man, prior to making the decision to boycott, there would be nothing in the news to discuss. With the research tools we have today, if one feels the need to cause disorder or disruption, it is best to know as much history and/or facts of all people (Kid Rock) and things (Confederate Flag) involved.

I am a true, home grown Southerner, and know very well the judgments placed not only on the "Confederate Flag", but also on the presumption that Southern folks are "slow to understand", due to the fact that our speech is not the same as other regions of the United States. I do not profess to be more intellectual or educated than anyone else, but with the idiocy of a few of our fellow Americans, I, on occasion, feel quite clever.

Well, KRCVAL, I personally do not care what Kid Rock thinks, or what you think. The matter is a big news story, and it concerns Kid Rock, and he has had ample time to reply if he planned on replying.

Alisha, Yes, he feels it is a disgrace from the NAACP to give Kid Rock the award, due to the fact that Kid Rock flies the confederate flag. They have acknowledged the things Kid Rock has done, but remember, THE NAACP is an organization that has spent years upon years fighting the use of the Confederate flag, because of the hardships and hard feelings just seeing it causes Black People.

Adolph may or may not be a member of the Detroit Chapter of the NAACP, I do not know. I am not a member of the NAACP, I do not agree with some of the things the NAACP does, and really could care less about the NAACP or Adolph Mongo. However, a Black Politician or Black leader, or whatever he is, boycotting the NAACP over this whole situation makes alot of sense, as much as we as Kid Rock fans do not want to see the bigger picture.

Some of you, most of you will defend anything and everything Kid Rock does. That is fine. I surely do not believe Kid Rock is a racist, I surely do not think Kid Rock flies the rebel flag meaning to hurt anyone's feelings, however, facts are facts, over 500 radical loony racist groups today use the rebel flag as their symbol of hate, the Confederaate Flag, no matter how many different meanings, is considered a symbol of hate, and well, a group that has faught the use of this symbol of hate, honoring someone who flies it on a regular basis, is sort of absurd. I understand why some people are choosing to boycott.

Kevrock I feel you both right and wrong. The boycott is pointed at the NAACP however these protestors are also boycotting Kid receiving The Great Expectations. That asshole "M" thinks that is it a disgrace for the NAACP to give Kid the award. basically stating he is not worthy of the award. I have said it before and I will say it again, no matter how much you do and no matter how much you give there will ALWAYS be someone, somewhere ready to trash that person.

KevRock,
A.M. may be a member of the Detroit Chapter of the NAACP, I have not checked that fact out myself...
I assume he may be, or else why raise such a stink?
I am not suggesting we as fans remain silent IN GENERAL on this topic..I am suggesting we do so on this site in respect for Kid Rock until HE has something to say about the matter. I think that is fair.

I have been asked by numerous people, I have seen numerous people comment on it, and I will say what I feel. Anyone who thinks we as fans should remain silent on one of the biggest stories in the news in Detroit, well, shut up.

The Confederate Flag stands for a lot of different things, one of those things is slavery and the belief that black people were sub-human and not deserving of the same rights as white people. I do not for one second believe Kid Rock is a racist, I do not believe for one second Kid Rock flies the rebel flag as a middle finger to black people, but I do feel Kid Rock should rethink flying the rebel flag at all.

I do not care if people want to comment, or do not want to comment, it is a main news story and commentary is necessary. I can understand 100% why African Americans want to boycott the NAACP Dinner in which Kid Rock will be awarded. These people are not boycotting KID ROCK, they are boycotting the NAACP, an organization that has faught the use of the Confederate Flag, has faught for equal rights, and has faught against many of the things the Confederate Flag stands for. I do not blame these people in their protest, they have a freedome to protest.

I think what people need to understand first and foremost, these protesters for the most part are not boycotting Kid Rock. Most of them have made statements supporting all the great things Kid Rock has done for the city of Detroit. However, I am sure a Jewish Organization would not award someone who wears or flies a swastika,

I have seen many people from the south defend the Confederate Flag, and it disheartens me as a human being. I believe the South lost, and with that loss, Slavery was abolished, and we started to rebuild this country. I believe Kid Rock is a good man, I know Kid Rock is a good man, but I think people are losing the basis for this boycott because of Kid Rock's association. The boycott is pointed more at the NAACP than Kid Rock.

I'm sure it hurt him and stresses him out, he is on tour, so we will let this topic drift into the distance and not give the Supreme A$$ who started the controversy any glory. You guys/gals help me out in stifling any more talk about this until and IF we hear from the man himself on it.
No more posting on this, I Love Y'all!!!!

Yep we have have new name for that Asshole that started this whole mess. KRCVAL, you are probably right about Kid not wanting us to discuss this anymore. Can you imagine how he feels if he thought that people honestly felt he has those feelings of hate in his heart? He is a better person than that.

Hi Memphis,
We had a HUGE discussion on the board last night about this, and we decided not to bring it up anymore.
