There ain't no paczki like a Detroit paczki...
    rocksavedmysoul says (08 Mar '11)

I just heard a Fox 2 news reporter begin the song "There ain't no paczki like a Detroit paczki" in a Hamtramck bakery.   A customer replied, "and a Detroit paczki don't stop."  It was hilarious.  For those who are not aware of this time-honored tradition in the "D," today is Fat Tuesday (day before Lent begins) which means everyone is filling up on paczkis (pronounced poonch, ki).  Hamtramck is known for their paczkis (polish donut).  Customers line up hours before the polish bakeries in Hamtramck open and there are lines out the door.  Paczkis are fatter than regular filled donuts, crunchier, and are filled with either raspberry, custard, (my personal favorites), lemon, strawberry, plum, and I think blueberry, too.  Anyway, I know KID and the TBT know what they are and I'm sorry they are missing out.  I just thought I would post to let KID know how his music even influenced Paczki Day in his hometown! Happy Fat Tuesday everyone!

@KRLO & Angel-Prunes are the original Paczki flavor. Poles love their Prunes. Trust me, I'm so Polish my Grandparents met at a "Paczki Ball" or "Donut Ball" as my Grandmother called it.
No Paczki for this Pole though! Someone needs to make a gluten free one for Celiacs like me.

I have not idea why they would put prunes in a paczki or any donut. But come once a year there are always prune filled paczkis available. Come to think of it those are the ones that are always half off, when lent starts.

Darn, wha, prunes is that a bathroom issue, lol!!

PRUNE FILLED???????? Why would you ruin a perfectly good pastry by putting prunes in it? man o man

Had to bring this up, someone in a contest ate, get this, 33 paczki's. 18 in the morning, in one contest, and 15 in the evening in another contest. Geez I'd hate to be around that bathroom, bet you he ate the prune filled ones to make room!

Sorry @KRLO, you can't taste "em. Feel better.

I have a nasty cold, and can't taste anything, so I get to get fat w/out tasting them.

ha ha @mrscedarmichigan I just popped some Advil because I now have a sugar headache! I still have ten in the box (for my crew) and refuse to have any more although they keep tempting me.

I ate my annual tradition of 2 today..... and later take my annual tradition nap, from the sugar crash...

I'm on a SUGAR HIGH right now from two of those suckers. Thank goodness they make them only once a year!

@KRA: they really are good! Usually someone in the offices all around Detroit brings them in as a treat. Hamtramck bakeries ship them out to bakeries across the "D." People order them weeks in advance. I just thought it was really funny when the reporter spontaneously started singing a Kid song during a live report.

Thats great hahaha i want one

They are yummilicious!!
Some of the bakeries in Bay City have the real thing, but most around here go with the 'fake' paczki's, they're like a jelly-filled donut, not as authentic. I've seen them with powdered sugar or glaze on top, I prefer the powdered sugar.
