Summer event season is in full swing in the Quad City area. And as the events go on, so does severe weather.
Event organizers must plan for any possible weather conditions. Burlington Steamboat Days President and Des Moines County Sheriff, Mike Johnson, said organizers run through exercises with emergency management crews.
"We think of all possible scenarios that could happen at Steamboat Days," he said.

I think everyone should get a grip. Its time the people in this country stopped wearing their feelings on their shoulders and stop crying over every little damn thing. Its a flag that has a very big part of our american history. It IS NOT something to be shoved away behind closed doors and forgotten about. As much as certain factions in this country are trying to bury it, it will always fly proud and fly high.Are we suppose to just forget our heritage and our past because these certain factions cry over the display of the Confederate Battle Flag? We are branded racist and bigots because we embrace our hertiage and celebrate our past with honor and pride. I say that if these factions think that way towards us then its them that are showing their racist attitudes and bigotry. The South may have lost the war way back when but we are still proud of our heritage and always will be. McLEAN, Va. Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address has inspired Americans for generations, but consider his jarring remarks in 1862 to a White House audience of free blacks, urging them to leave the U.S. and settle in Central America.
"For the sake of your race, you should sacrifice something of your present comfort for the purpose of being as grand in that respect as the white people," Lincoln said, promoting his idea of colonization: resettling blacks in foreign countries on the belief that whites and blacks could not coexist in the same nation.
Lincoln went on to say that free blacks who envisioned a permanent life in the United States were being "selfish" and he promoted Central America as an ideal location "especially because of the similarity of climate with your native land thus being suited to your physical condition."
As the nation celebrates the 150th anniversary of Lincoln's first inauguration Friday, a new book by a researcher at George Mason University in Fairfax makes the case that Lincoln was even more committed to colonizing blacks than previously known. The book, "Colonization After Emancipation," is based in part on newly uncovered documents that authors Philip Magness and Sebastian Page found at the British National Archives outside London and in the U.S. National Archives.
In an interview, Magness said he thinks the documents he uncovered reveal Lincoln's complexity.
"It makes his life more interesting, his racial legacy more controversial," said Magness, who is also an adjuct professor at American University.

There was no way they could afford to actually pay people to do that work. So money was a major cause i will give you that. I should know this as well my grandfather was a farmer til the day he died. That's so NOT a new schtick for Kid to drop the rebel flag. Ever see him play Never Met a MotherFucker Quite Like Me in concert a few years ago? He dropped that flag then. Not a new thing. Regardless of what the flag means to you or I, we all have to agree on one thing. Kid has never meant to fly the flag in a way that would be insulting to anyone. He has always shown nothing but love and respect for all people. I hate to see some jackass like Mongo ruin a day for which Kid is to be recognized for all that he has done for his hometown and the people that live there. No matter who you are, how much you do, or how much you give, there will always be someone, somewhere, that is pissed off and runs his or her mouth. with all respect, VideoAce, that's just not true. not for all northerners (although it may be where you are from, I've never been to MI). I'd suggest that the next time you come here to The City ask around to get a different perspective, except that it would be dangerous for you to do that. Hopefully you know me well enough to just trust me when I say that in some Northern spots it is for sure a big deal.
