I was hit last night with a very disturbing incident with some Kid Rock tickets and I know the KID would be very pissed off if he knew the extent to this unfortunate situation.
I'm not a crazed fan who would make up this story..I'm simply a middle-classed working mother who was looking forward to a "Perfect Date Night" with my husband.
I am a third grade teacher and I took my son to basketball yesterday morning. I sat with my friends who are also parents of a student of mine, who are also doctors in the area. All I did was mention that I would do ANYTHING to be at the Kid Rock concert that evening and the next thing I knew, that parent was on Craig's List, ordering me tickets. The tickets were advertised as $250.00 each for section 127, Row 5. She "lent" me the money to go pick up two tickets. Now, mind you, I would've ordered the tickets myself when they went onsale but with the holiday coming, I couldn't justify purchasing tickets to go to the concert and take that Christmas money away from my children.
My husband and I met in Macomb Township to meet the man, we exchanged $500.00 cash for the tickets. They were printed directly from Ticketmaster...the cardboard version. If they were internet tickets, the transaction wouldn't have taken place. We scrambled to get babysitters for our children and we were on our way to the D for a night out..I was like a little kid going on an adventure to the City!
We met some friends at the Detroiter then got on the shuttle to head to Ford Field. The feeling on that shuttle was incredible, all of the true Detroiters who love and appreciate the city as much as the Kid...the feeling he gives us in this city is absolutely amazing. I couldn't think of anywhere else in the world I wanted to be at that moment, than on my way to Kid Rock's 40th birthday party.
Once we got to Ford Field, we stood in line with 99.5 blaring, people cheering, and with comaradery I've never felt before..it was an experience of a lifetime..I felt truly blessed to be standing in that line. (The security was incredible too, and I told my husband, Kid wouldn't want it any other way...For us to be safe!)
We made it through the physical pat down, went to the ticket scanners and they scanned my husband's ticket. It came up "invalid" at which point, my husband's heart dropped to the floor! They scanned mine and it read "invalid." They directed us to the ticket window at which point, after about three minutes, the window clerk handed us back the tickets with a big, fat "Void" across them. We went directly to the Macomb County Sheriff's Department to file a report. The deputy "Greg" was absolutely incredible..he went to the gas station where the transaction took place, tried to obtain surveillance videos and searched the trash cans where the seller disposed of the cash envelope, after he collected the money out of it. He also went the guy's house and spoke to his neighbors. He called me around 11:30 with an update of what he found...
Come to find out, "Tim", the person I got the tickets from, was also scammed by a man on eBay. He was an innocent "in between man" and he met us today to give us our money back. Amazing....He had just came from the Roseville police Department to file a report, only to find out there were about 500 other people who had also been scammed by the same RAT!
Kid...I don't want anything in return from you...all I want is for you to be aware that this happened and maybe help in some way to alleviate this in the future..no one can make more of an impact in this situation than you because I listen to your music and I know you think this is BULLSHIT! There are some nasty, cruel people in this world...to screw over two good-hearted people who just wanted a Date Night with the Kid on his 40th Birthday...you are admired and respected and you are a true Michiganian...so, if you are feeling some sympathy for this situation, all I request is a SKYPE session between you and my third graders who are learning about Michigan and LOVE you as much as I do! (I had to ask!) One of your MANY number one fans....YooperGirl
i think with the way technology is these days its very easy to make authentic looking tickets.
my only suggestion would be to take pictures of the people you are buying the tickets from in case of an incident such as yours.
creeps like that should be made examples of to discourage others from doing the same.
They did catch one guy but it's not our guy. We got our tickets off of Craigslist the night before the concert because we kept on waiting for Ticketmaster to release more tickets, which didn't happen.
My friend and her husband picked up tickets from this guy and paid $150.00 each, $600.00 total.
We were scammed as well and like the story you told YooperGirl, it was going to be a long overdue night out. I don't know how these punks sleep at night.
thats so sad.
Thank you for posting and coming out with it....cause I am sure, it will always be a big part in our lives and maybe we all will be more careful of who and where we buy from.
big hugs to all of you scammed people.
Your story is almost identical to mine... very sad that we had to go through this. My boyfriend lost his son 15 weeks ago and it was his first time out. I was trying to give him a nice night out that we could get our mind off the stresses we have been under. We invited another couple. We paid $600 for 4 tickets and that we bought off the scammer. They looked so real...hard ticket master tickets. We were devistated when we were turned away at the door. "All Summer Long" and "Picture" are our favorite songs and we were so sad not to be able to see them performed and that we weren't able to share in Kid's 40th party! I have never seen him in concert and still hope to be able to again some day. I did take the plate number down of the scammer who sold me the tickets and so hopefully that helped catch him. I heard they have someone in custody today, but not sure where it will go. Still doesn't make up for the huge disappointment, but hopefully justice will be served.
One of the ticket scammers were caught but it isn't my scammer guy so I wonder how many are out there. You are so right, there are bigger fish to fry. I was so happy to hear they caught the serial rapist and I am so sad about Larry N, a Livonia police officer losing his life in the line of duty. These things make our situations minute. However, the scammers have to feel some pain and OCJ would be a nice place for them to play for a while!
Hey KIDROCKSDETROIT..I'm so glad you posted, I'm just sorry you experienced the same thing. Even though I tried to reflect on what's REALLY important in life and tried to chalk this up to some bad luck and there are "bigger fish to fry" in this crazy world, it's WRONG and something needs to be done. The more the plot thickens, the more upset I get and no matter how much I tell myself to just let it go, I can't. It eats at me that people can be so cruel...I agree..the hometown love I felt in the D that night was like absolutely incredible and so exciting! It's not that I'll never be at another one of his concerts, but his BIRTHDAY PARTY???? I'm so bummed!
Hi YooperGirl! I feel your pain. I too was so excited to share Kid's night with him and all the crazy fans. Kid makes all of us Michiganders feel good. He is very giving and very deserving of the awesome birthday celebration. I absolutely love his hometown dedication! My 3 friends and I were ready to rock the night away. We started the celebration on Friday when I purchased 4 tickets @ $150 ea from a guy on Craigslist. We met in front of a WalMart. The tickets appeared very authentic and I didn't question anything. I have sold tix on Craigslist 3 times before only because I had access to better seats so I thought I'd go to CraigsList as well. We partied at Elwoods across from the stadium. We stood in line with frozen toes and cold wet noses, made some friends in line and even roared with the crowd when the doors opened. The excitement in the air was thrilling. Got patted down and then advanced to the scanning device and the lady said our tickets were invalid and we had to go to the ticket counter. A gal took our tickets and spent about 10 minutes looking them over with other employees and asked where we got the tickets. She stated that we needed to find that person to get our money back. When we arrived at the counter, there were 2 other couples at other windows to the right of us and by the time we left, there were about 30 other people in line. We talked to 2 couples in line who stated their tickets scanned invalid as well. We have filed a police report in the city where the ticket/money exchange took place. They told us point blank that more than likely, no actions would take place. I believe Ticketmaster should take this very seriously because someone is making their name look bad and if they don't they are inviting more fraud to defame their name. If I could, I'd spend another $600 just to have this guy caught. Surveillance cameras and some investigation should be pulled and these fraudulent cases taken seriously....
Is it true? Did they really get the RAT?????
KIDROCKGURL..if you can think of anything I can do to help in the investigation, please let me know..I am so sad for Tim...what a guy...if I could have afforded it, I would've told him to keep the money!
Now this is tragic. This is the kind of story that makes me feel bad. These internet scam jobs, these scammers on the street. Poor Girl.
Thanks for posting this. It will surley help us Kid Rock Fan's Beware !!! I'm sorry you missed the Birthday Bash, but at least you got your money back. I Hope they catch the Scum Bag Scammer.
All I can say...I had an AWESOME guy TIM rectify the situation for me...I can only hope he gets his money back...I was so grateful that I happened to get one of the nice, decent, respectable guys in this whole debackle! What really sucks, is I missed the Kid's 40th birthday party...so sad!
"Tim" was a victim as well as I was in Roseville. In fact he filed a report the same time I did. He was so upset and felt so bad about the tickets.
I can say that all of us are trying as hard as we can to get this guy caught. You are lucky you had someone go right out and investigate. I have the exact time and location where my transaction happened to make it easy to pull the tape and nothing has been done yet to my knowledge. I had a story in the Det News this am and a follow up tomorrow morning. A story will also be airing on Channel 4 tonight @ 530.

AMEN girlfriend! I'm also a working/college student, & mother. We got scammed by this guy as well! My boyfriend & I haven't been out in months & we wasted $300 on tix from the same guy. I heard the story about the guy from Roseville. : ) Poor guy... He's out even more money than the rest of us. I've been posting & e-mailing with dozens of people for the past 24 hrs. Someone sent me the info of the person with plate # in question? We're going to try Warren police again later.
