My heart breaks and bleeds...I'm at a loss for words. Thoughts and Prayers for Our Fellow Villagers in Oklahoma.
I accept completely that times change, along with values, viewpoints etc etc and i admire Kid Rock for doing what he has done (his own thing). It's obvious that 'Born Free' completely contrasts to his earlier albums in lots of ways and don't get me wrong i've downloaded loads of Kid Rock country music, from Luckenbach Texas with Kenny Chesney to Willie Nelson Last stand in open country covers! I don't have an issue with the whole country thing.
What is a little shocking from the new album is the complete switch and a 'forgetting the past' vibe it emits. I have no problem with his country music yet the song 'Care' , which is probably the best on the album has a rap interlude. Kid Rock gained so many followers through the rap genre of music yet he doesn't even feature on this section of the song.
The same can be said when i bought a copy of Racing Father Time. The 'alternative version' of Lonely road of faith misses out the best part...The explosion in the middle.
It comes across as though that he wants to distance himself from this completely and from listening to the album, although i like it i just get the vibe he wants to create a whole new image for himself and leave the past behind, which is upsetting as a die hard fan!

I agree Lyonkind and Bell. I understand that he wasn't inpired by rap or hiphop right now cuz it does suck now a days. But, I agree... HE can change that. I want him on his next record to come out big and say..."For all of you that said I am too country or too soft... Fuck off!" and then just rock hard! That would be sweet. HA! I hope he stays true to what he said to Rick Rubin that, (which I don't agree, he shouldn't "ask" Rick Rubin..again..he DOES NOT need his help)..but he said that he asked RR, "Can the next album have like 5 heavy hard rock songs?" I hope he does that. I guess if he doesn't want to rap that is fine and least rock hard. I will say again I do really like all the songs on the new record.. I guess to me it isn't the music I want to put on to feel pumped up and happy. It is more songs I like to sing along too and hear his sexy voice. And if KR is reading this... I love you to pieces and I will always be a hardcore fan. I have watched the Born Free documentary like 10 times and counting. I honestly love to watch you during interviews. I just love your attitude, voice, wit, humor and coolness. You are the best.
Think he's shot himself in the foot with having a rap interlude in care. Wonder if he anticipated TI going to jail, such bad news for him as he is forced to do that interlude himself ......maybe he'll get Vanilla Ice his long time friend to help him out this time haha
It's not the direction he's gone that's provoked this reaction it's the way he's gone about it and the comments made along the way. Still love the guy though but if you don't like the way hip hop is nowadays don't just fuck it off grab it by the horns and make it good again, change it, that's what the real musical legends do and that's what people are remembered for.
I think he believed there's no future as cockys record sales didn't compare to DWAC or HOR. But that album was alot more country rap than the others were.
I enjoy Bob rapping But He has an AWESOME RAPPER in his Band. Heres hoping Paradime will be doing The rapping in CARE!!!!!!
Remember please that someone else produced this current work...I as well miss that the direction part was left out of lonley road of faith, for its my faviorite part and will b my wedding march someday if God allows.
I don't think you can ever really call what Kid Rock is going to do. I admit this is his mellowest album to date. However I think it had more to do with exploring his song writing skills and expanding his catalog as far as those great rock anthems. I think he did a really good job on it. I know he has said I believe on the Fuse interview that Rap/Hip hop just hasn't inspired him lately. As with everything in life we go through stages and changes and it all eventually comes full circle. I wouldn't say the rap was done though because I don't honestly think it is. Ahh an keep in mind he raps the part in Care live in concert or at least he has so far every time they do the song live. We just got to let him go in whatever direction he feels drawn to because the music has to be genuine. If the rap thing isn't inspiring him than I don't expect him to write the same kinds of songs.
I feel the same too I want kid rock to rip shit up again on the next album! I hope we get another cocky album with good rock rap slow fast songs I loved cocky when I first got it because it has it all. I agree 100% about midnight train if that song took out the rap in the middle it would not be as great but might get played on the radio. It's one of my favourite kid rock songs because it has the upbeat change. I think David Spade should produce the next album lol
I really enjoyed reading that Dana nice to know there's others who feel the same
The thing that cuts deep about that Midnight train to memphis quote you mentioned is the fact that it's a brilliant song and that song it's brings out so many emotions. It basically starts off sad and paints a picture of someone who is missing something in their life and can't cope then at the end it explodes and basically says FUCK THIS I'M KID ROCK and becomes so positive! Everytime i listened to that song i felt alive and it is everything about that song which works well together.
The David Spade interlude says "what is this K snooze?". I think even kid rock knew the song needed spicing up in the middle at the time otherwise why do it? Songs can't stay the same all the way through or they go flat and he was the best for keepin' it real and being original! Rock and Roll jesus took me a while to get into but in the end i loved it, it was out there, completely different and real.I like this new album but i don't ''love it'', there's a difference and in my opinion all the tracks blend into one.
The thing is i think it's a bit disrespectful to us as fans because we loved and lived by those songs and now with his new album and quotes like that, it's like he's regretting who he was. I think you're deffo right about the rick rubin thing. Kid has been quoted so many times as saying "Rick has told me that there's no need for me to keep telling the world i'm kid rock because they already know!"
Rap is a very personal genre of music and i don't think eminem would be where he is today without letting the world know about eminem!
I also heard he went into country from hip hop because he heard it was going too pop. What i can't understand is that the guy is one of the best musical innovators there's ever been, so why should that put him off, i regarded him as a musical pioneer and if you and millions of fans have faith in you it shouldn't deter you!
I agree with you totally. I too like the new album. But, I love the rap rock stuff. My fave songs are the fun ones. He is all about fun and that is what I like to hear him sing. I think he should do albums like in the past that have rap, hard rock, and country on them. Since he can do anything, he should do just that. Don't get me wrong, I will love whatever he does. I just read what he said in Rollingstone about "Midnight train to Memphis"..that it could of been a timeless classic but it can't be because he has David Spade speak and then raps.."fuck a bitch"... No, I don't agree. That is Kid Rock's style and it's what we like about him. It feels real. I like in the song "Run off to LA" when the song sounds serious but that he says "but we don't fuck"... I love that. Kid, don't stop doing that like you did in this record. I want you to produce your next album...no Rick Rubin. I think the songs are good but I miss the fun! Too serious! I do love "Flyin' High though. That is fun. That is why we all can't wait to see him in concert...We love to hear- American Bad Ass, Motherfucker quite like me, Devil without a cause. etc.... I need to hear that Kid Rock!! I think it is fine he did an album like this this time, but next album...we want fun, hard..cocky, Kid Rock!!
I'm from Liverpool England so no never saw it but i'll go and find it now, sounds like Bobby jnr could be the shining light to show his dad the way again. I'm pretty sure the music industry could more than sustain another album like DWAC......Rick Rubins got inside his head too much!
IF he made the statement???lol I guess you didnt see the MTV documentary that was aired recently. Bobs son has a band called Hiprockrisy and they do some RockRap. Bob told his son that Train has come and gone...lol
If Kid Rock made that statement about rap rock being dead then i think it's rubbish. Limp Bizkit and Kid Rock not to mention Rage and Run DMC were so popular in the late 90's early 00's it was unbelievable. Rage seperated, Limp went absolutely dreadful after chocolate starfish and Run DMC i don't believe have released a rock rap album since crown royal in like 2000 or about that time! It was also at this time when kid rock started to go more country....... all around 2001!
Rap Rock at this time had never been bigger! all the big players stopped producing it so there was gap in the market and that still stands today, the only reason why it's not back is because no1 has ever been good enough to fill the shoes of the bands i have just mentioned!
If limp bizkit were capable of releasing albums like they used to and if rage pull themselves together again rap rock would be back with a bang!
Like i said i respect Kid Rock for everything he's done and i would defend him and his music until i had no breath left in my body but this fact remains.
When Kid Rock did Rap Rock and mixed this with other genres he was one of the best...if not the best, he stood head and shoulders above the rest. With what Kid Rock has decided to do now he doesn't reach that peak.....not even close, he just blends in and does not stand out as much. Rock and Roll jesus stood out as he had the attitude he has shown throughout his career.
This is just me venting the dissapointment of what i have stated early. I still like his music i have both born free and racing father time....all his other albums (original polyfuze, emsp and even star profile). I Just feel that he's trying to escape his past with this new album by creating a whole new image and i can't bond with it like the others!
Part of me thinks its more about when everyone else goes left, Bob goes right. Theres tons of Rappers out there doin there thing. But not any great Rock n Rollers....
I agree with Lyonkind on most of that post kid rock does seem to be cutting away from the rap an the comment about raprock being over is disappointing too. I remember that's what got me hooked to kid rock, I loved rock n roll and rap so when Bob mixed um together it was the best music I have ever heard. Bob is the best in the world at mixing the two an has a voice that is perfect for singing and rapping over. I hope for some more head banging songs too with or without the rap. It will be interesting to see what new set list is for this new tour, I can only hope for some old kid rock to be in there some where!
Truly I dont see him doing Rap. he has said RockRap is over and done ( Idisagree) But I feel strongly that he will be putting out some more head Banging Rock. lol
Well since the 2003 release of his self titled album i think it was blatantly obvious to all die hard fans that the tide was changing and rap was being phased out. But the extreme attitude and raw feeling that has been present in his songs was always there until now. This album is a complete chnage in the opposite direction. I'm not saying it's bad in any way but it all strengthens my thoughts that i've just said.
Not only that, i've lived and breathed the guy for so many years and he always said that his music wasn't meant to be deep and was just for fun and feel good, yet this album he clearly states the underlying morals and themes about the economy etc behind his songs. Obviously he's older now but there's been a definate change within the last few years (the Rick Rubin influence for on)e and although you have mentioned this rap album with Run i would be extremely surprised if it went ahead!
Considering That he still does Bawitaba, ABA < DWAC at his shows. I think this was just his Bob Seger Record and trying something different. lol Dont assume hes totally done rockin. he has talked about putting out another Rap album with Rev Run. He might not, But I wouldnt assume one album is a sign that he is changing his whole image lol
