There is no bigger Kid Rock & TBT fan than yours truly..been to over 60 shows since 1999..I just purchased the new cd, Born Free..I am very disappointed..to be blunt.. It SUX..what a waste of $13.
It almost put me to sleep.. I feel like Bob has abandoned the fans who he rode to the top of the music business. why is every song labeled "folk" under genre on the cd? are you trying to win a grammy or what? you need to kick Rick Rubin to the curb..I traveled 900 miles both ways to see the shows at the DTE in August..didn't like any of the new songs at the show..Born free was ok. thought there would be some good ones on there that he didn't play at the show..boy, was I mistaken...don't think I'm going to waste my money on any of the shows in 2011..if that's the crap he's going to be playin.. I want the old Bobby Ritchie back..not the country sell out version..disappointed in Prattville, Alabama

Damn, KID'S got some PASSIONATE FANS !!!
Funny ... & It's All out of LOVE ...
... for what was ... what is ... and what is to come ... :))))
Fist, ditto to what angel and bell typed. I apologize for taking such quick offense to the statement about not knowing my gender. FYI, I am female and have been married for close to 24 years. Yipes. I love the direction he is going and would love if he did another album like this but I respect your reasons for not liking it, so I guess we agree to disagree.
I does not suck. It rocks. Just expanding himself and just keeps getting better. Let the boy grow his talents. Go back and listen to Devil without a Cause if you are needing some head banging. It's all good.
Mean no disrespect. Of course you have the right to your own opinion!
Well said FISTOFRAGE79!! See I am all for freedom of speech and you have a right to feel the way you do. I also hope his next album is something you really dig. Thanks for keeping it real, honesty is always a good thing even if it isn't an opinion you agree with. :-)
Well Said Fistof Rage..... I like that alot better Than Hes a sellout and his album sux.
And even if I dont feel the same. I feel your disappointment. And I hope The next album is exactly what you hope for!!!!!!!
(This is the first of a 3 part post)
First, I want to Thank Kid Rock for giving us the opportunity to voice our emotions and opinions, of him and the music he writes on this website.I believe Im the biggest Kid Rock fan in the world..as Im sure all of his fans do..but just because I dont like the direction his music is takin doesnt mean I love him any less..Let me just say that it would be the thrill of a lifetime to meet my musical hero..I didnt and dont live in Michigan or anywhere close, so I wasnt there in the beginning. But, I have seen several TBT shows(63 total) on every tour since 1999. I have seen every big time Rock act except for the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, the Doors, etc., who broke up or died before I had the chance. I did see Elvis live when I was 11.. when he was at his peak in 1972 .there was never a performer except for Elvis..who (*as the Kid says..If its real.. youll feel it.) touched something in my soul the way Bobby Ritchie does. To me.. he is The King. I have never liked listening to country or folk music..whatever you want to call it. Doesnt mean its not good music. I bought the cd Born Free..and listened to it several times just dont like it. The Kid has earned the right to perform whatever kind of music he wants to perform.. ..live or on disc. But I have noticed the change..or whatever you want to call it.. in his discs and shows. We all change..thats a fact..we grow.. and become different people. And we do let what other people think of us affect that growth and change. Its only human. What Ive noticed changing gradually over the years at shows are playing other peoples music..I dont go to TBT shows to hear other artists songs.. I go to hear your stuff. I dont like the way you cut the old songs short and the way they dont sound like they used to at the old shows(like the recordings).
Instead of playing other artists songs..play your old stuff in its place I dont go to hear country style or folk songs..if I wanted that..Id go to a Garth Brooks or Tim McGraw show or heaven forbid.. Jamey Johnson. At the dte on aug 13th..in the middle of the show you said were going go way back..I kept waiting but you never did..instead you started playing all that put me to sleep stuff off the new album. I guess you could call Whats my name going way back..but compared to your other old stuff that song sux. Ive seen where on other sites and on this one .people are accusing you of ripping off other peoples music to go along with your lyrics on 3 of the songs on this album. I hope it isnt true.
I know you dont give a crap what I think..but this is an open forum and Im going to voice my frustration. You dont have to prove anything to anybody as some people have suggested. Your true fans know you can write and perform any genre of music. I just wish there was 1 or 2 true rooted Kid Rock songs on this album. I dont think your going to gain any new fans or change peoples opinions about you just because of this album with no Old Kid Rock style RocknRoll or Rock rap songs. Ive traveled to lots of different cities(from Michigan to Florida) to hear you perform on every tour. The best were the few shows you did summer of 2005 and fall of 2007. I saw them all on these tours except for 3 of them. The Pelham Alabama show 2005 was the best performance I have ever seen anyone give. Your soul glowed like Ive never seen before or since. All the shows on that 2005 tour were incredible. The Ryman and Tabernacle 2007 shows were equally impressive. My favorite and I think the best song youve ever done is Ya keep On its a masterpiece. The last time I heard it live was the 2005 tour. I know people are gonna laugh and ridicule that comment....but it is. The performance of that song at Pelham in 2005 in the rain, wind, thunder and lightning, with a full moon in the sky, was magical and something Ill never forget. I think it should be a staple song on every show. Ive sold my copy of Born free that I purchased to another eager fan on ebay. I hope they enjoy it. I hope Kid Rock understands why I dont like it even though I know and understand why he wouldnt give a crap what I think. I will eagerly await his next recording and hope it has at least a couple of true Kid Rock songs on it. Please forgive my back and forth use of 1st an 2nd person when speaking about Kid Rock. These are my feelings about my musical hero and his music and I appreciate the forum to let them out.
Bell, I have 2 kids in college, one about to go, and I am dreading the empty nest but we are also looking forward to it. Your 40's will be fun.
My kids first concert was J Geils at Pine Knob (DTE energy), second concert was The Stones at Tiger Stadium (Comerica Park) They go to indy concerts all the time now from rap, to rock and roll, to oldies, to country. I love that they really embrace all types of music, and they are also very good students. Their next concert is KR at 40 Field.
Thanks SAL29711, I would say no one better to turn 40 with :-) 40 isn't old either, it's when you enter the prime of your life. Or at least that's what I tell myself so I don't dread it. ROFL
KRLO we will have to see how 40 feels :-D I'll have 3 grown kids when I am 42, then I say GAME ON! hahaha
Angel of course that doesn't make them bad fans. Everyone has their own likes and dislikes that is part of the fun of people. My only point is was that yes this album is softer but he has a ton of rock and rap that he still does in concert. The old faves won't get tossed aside in place of this new album. I am sure there are a lot of those older songs that Bob himself still loves and wants to do now. The impression I got was that the songs off this album that they will play live will take the place of some of the cover tunes he did in concert. So now he will do mostly his own music, trust me I am sure not everyone was a huge fan of the classics when they first came out.
I didn't really like the song Cocky at first, then one day I had my KR playlist going when I was working on the book I am currently writing (or attempting to LOL) and I started jamming to it and fell in love with it years after it's release. I just don't want people to go this sucks and move on without giving it a chance. As people we are resistant to change and when something is drastically different it's easy to say oh forget this, but you never know, you could fall in love with it years from now. I'm just the kind of person if I don't like something than I put it on the shelf and come back to it later. Maybe at this moment in time it isn't what someone needs. But that can change and a lot of times does. :-D
I agree with all of you Kidrockangel, Bell, and KRLO....you have made very good valid points on all respects. I guess...for myself...I will just go down at 40 in Jan...hey at least I'm not alone...KR will be with me...right??? LOL :)
There are fans that have been with Kid Rock since day one and spent 1000"s of dollars following the band around the country. and they miss the Hard Rock and the rap. and Thats cool. I miss it some too. That doesnt make them Bad fans. If we all liked the same thing it would be a sad boring world.
He may not be banging strippers everynight but Hes still a rockstar and living the good life. There will be plenty more rock...lol
Bell, I loved my 30's and 40's, have to admit turning 50 was a bit much but now that I am 51, I kind of like it. I know all about the turnip 20's!!!!
Angel, I agree with you on that one. No one has to like everything that a person creates. My thing has always been to at least respect the artist. He has to be true to who he is and what he feels and if this album does that then he has accomplished what he set out to do. He has an amazing back catalog of music to draw from and rocks the house live. We change and grow as the years pass, sometimes we need to do things a little different to see where we want to go in life. No one can stay the same all the time, KR isn't done. He's only 39 and still has a lot to write about, just because it's softer doesn't mean it has less heart.
I can guarantee he could party me under the table, I'm a light weight!
KRLO I think I will stick to being 32 than ;-) I wasn't an awkward 12 year old but I have a 12 year old daughter and I honestly love being in my 30's. I was dumb as a turnip in my 20's!! LOL
Ok Now I have to go back the other way. lol There are plenty of Good Kid Rock fans that dont like this album. Thats cool as long as they dont call him names and say hes old and dead to them. lol Cause I pretty much guarantee he can party any of us under the table.
Bell, By that logic (tha tlogic I will stick to, till my dying day) would make me 31 and I could handle that, but not 12, I was by far the geekiest 12 year old ever born. Icky haircuts, acne, no boobs, and all the other girls had huge ones. Mine finally finished the race but not till I was about 16. I'm not minding 51 at all, oops, meant 31.
Gawd KRLO what does that make me 12? ROFL I don't know if I wanna be 12 again. LOL
Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I happen to like the new album. I like that as an artist he took the time to work with someone he respected and admired. If he never works with Rick again than okay, but I really think this album does round out his writing as an artist. He had to dig deep, test himself and walk this path as a person. If you don't dig it than no biggie, just wait, I'm sure the next album will be more to your liking. I know most of his fans are used to the rock/rap stuff and I agree it's amazing. I fell in love with DWAC and it rolled from there. I just think if you take the time to search out the messages in the songs that maybe at least you can have a mutual respect for it. I also have to add, that this stupid idea of a country sell out version is ridiculous. We grew up in the Midwest, what has the Midwest always been? A melting pot of musical styles, turn the dial you will find about every major genre of music on there. In the south it's more Blues based, in the North east it's more Rock based. But here in the Midwest we are in the heart of it all. I have said it before, I like everything from Classical to Death Metal. Motown was a huge influence in this area but so was Dwight Yoakam, after all I went to the same high school as he did in central Ohio. Despite what he told people he didn't grow up in Kentucky he grew up in Ohio. Lil Bow Wow went to the same middle school that my daughter goes too for example.
Kid Rock is just taping what are already natural roots. I can dress goth, head bang with the best of them, talk inner city, or reflect my half country, half city upbringing. People are people but they don't fit in molds
HEY CHECK IT OUT. THIS MESSAGE GOES OUT TO ALL THE HATERS THAT ARE HATING ON THIS ALBUM. YOU JUST WISH YOU HAD A TENTH OF 1 % OF THE MUSICAL TALENT THAT ROCK HAS. HE IS IN HIS 40'S NOW. HE IS GROWING AND MUTUREING AS A MUSICTION AND NOT A " SELL OUT " AS YOU PUT IT. HE IS TRUE AND REALLY. SO IF YOU DONT LIKE IT QUIT WHINNING ABOUT IT AND JUST DONT BYE THE NEW ALBUM. IM PRETTY SURE THAT HE CAN CASH THAT SELL OUT CHECK AT THE END OF THE DAY AND IT WONT MAKE A BIT OF DIFFRENCE. AND OH BY THE WAY YOUR NOT TRUE KID ROCK FANS AT ALL.
Sometimes in life you find yourself, if your lucky, content with who you are. No need to scream, shout and cuss everyone out and say "hey yall this is me, look at me. Maybe im reading too much into something thats simply music, but i think Bobby has always saturated his music with himself, as a friend in spirit, and a huge fan id love it for him to have found that in life. I think everyone deserves that, if only for a fleeting time, at some point in life and sadly, many never get there. Every redneck hellraiser has a little bit of a laid back country/folk side in them, i know i do! :) As always much love! ~Peaches
But if you look at this logically, and I have had a couple of beers, so my logic might not be all there (hey it's always 5PM somewhere) then 40 would be the new 20, 30 would be the new 10, and 20 would be the new 0! Glad I'm not 20 it would suck to be 0 again.
Haha...KRLO...I think you might be right!!! ;)
I love that cover also, only problem is, I have to belt out I'm friggin 50, and I lied I'm 51. But I heard somewhere that 50 is the new 30!!
Thanks...KidRockAngel...:) I just deleted it. I do not declare to know everything about him...by any manys...just one of the simple fans. :) Still like the cover...and think it fits and is hilarious! ;)
Not that it matters. one bit.. LOL it still fits!!!
Just FYI. Forty isnt his song. Its a cover. lol
This is the original by John Eddie, The same guy who wrote lowLife

First off...I don't think it has ANYTHING to do with being a man or a women..or that I all I do is live and breathe for KR!...IT has to do with being mature...maybe...and being a little more open minded and the willingness to live outside your box a little. I will also say...I do not LOVE every song...on every ablum...in fact I have never been a huge fan of rap...however...KR has several rap songs...do I love them....No...do I listen to them...yes...are they my favorites..no....and I will tell you some of them have grown on me. So your biased opinion that all women love everything he does...or every song writes because we just love him...is just ridiculous.. I do LOVE the fact as I said...that he is so versatile! That he can play a country song, or a rap song, or a rock song...and do it well! I love the part of KR that he puts himself, where he is from, and his own life experiences in his music...and you can feel that from head to toe.I listen to his words...and music...it is that what speaks to me! I am sorry you feel that the new album doesn't live up to your expectations...but really you need to broaden your horizons...if you are complaining about the $13...I am sure you have wasted more money other ways in your life ...and if you haven't you really need to get a life...I feel sorry for you if you only listen to KR ...and now you are disappointed because you are that blinded by your own close minded expectation.. and that if you do own any other music...you must love EVERY song..on those albums?? I do agree with the others...you have to listen to it a few times...It is very different from his last album...but I don't think in a bad way what-so-ever...just different!! Life would again, be boring...if we didn't allow change, or experiment with new and different things! Kidrockangel...sure...it would be fun.
When I first got this cd I did what I always do an skipped through the tracks trying to find the up beat rock songs. I was disappointed not to find any so I can see why fists is upset. It's taken a while but I have got in to most of the album now I think this album is catchy an alot of people will love it, but for me I would love bob to bring back some of the in your face attitude next time round an hope that don't take too many years! I think this next tour will be just as good as always just because the band will rock all the new tracks. I hope the are more old songs played than new but will have to wait an see.
