I think he sung the song with passion. I think the words of the song mean so much to him, and anyone from the city that if he is not passionate, if he is not on his A game, he might get choked up the way I do when I listen to it. The words are soooo real.
As for everyone speculating as to why he was in a bad mood or whatever. I think too many people are too quick to find reasons to defend his actions, and I think other people overthink the situation. Maybe he just really didn't feel like doing Ellen and Conan? I think Kid Rock is the last person to give a fuck what anyone has to say about him or his music. HE IS HIS OWN BIGGEST CRITIC.
KevRock, I totally agree with you. I couldn't wait until his performance last night and was glad to see that he chose this song. I kinda figured he was gonna do Born Free again. I'm not tired of Born Free but was glad to see a different performance. I can't wait for the Nashville, TN, or the Birmingham, AL concert. Both are only 2 hours drive from me and I can't decide which one yet. I would love to do both (and any others that are within a few hours drive), but financially it ain't happenin! I'm gonna do good to scrape together enough for one concert this year. :-(
Angel beat me to it, but I was gonna say something similar. I have no idea how KR as a person deals with crowds and critics, but ultimately, he's as human as the rest of us. Maybe Angel is right. or maybe he woke up in a bad mood or not feeling well. or maybe he was exhausted dealing with crowds all day and had enough. Maybe some personal or business issue just came up that complicated his life 5 minutes before he was there in public. IDK, but I've had all those things happen to me before (minus the fame issue) and I'm sure it happens to him and everyone else as well.
To be honest, and I mean no disrespect here, but this is kinda why I have no deep urge to meet the man. I've said this before and I'll say it again, me being a fan and listening/enjoying his music is way more important to me than meeting him. If I caught him on an off day or I was having an off day or our personalities clashed, it would effect me listening to his music. so I'll take the music and leave him be, thanks. He's got plenty of friends, family, lovers and stalkers...er... I mean fans... to hang out with as he chooses. and got my people to be with as well. So I say let the man have his privacy and allow him grace to have his moods and lets just enjoy his performances and the music and the things he does offer to the public.

I agree with Lynette, At the AMA rehersals, he did not look or act like he was in a good mood. He made a statement about everyone putting there camera's and phones away, because he does not want his pictures an F*ing twitter or facebook. When I asked him for a quick a picture, he just looked at me and half assed shook his head no, then sat outside smoked his cigar. The people around him said he was pissed off, so he in not wanting to deal with anybody.
This bugged me, but as time has passed, I realize he is only human, and how knows what is going on in his personal life.
Ok Kev. dont you live in Detriot?? what happened?? The wk his cd came out he cancelled shows on Ellen /Conan. Others-- Tonight he sang he looked like he lost his best friend- Something happened to him. It hit him in his heart- watch the video- he was singin to someone something that happened- It was not the Kid the world knows. He sound great did an AWESOME job- but something was not right. I thought of all people you would of notice- something is up??

I was lucky enough to see him reherase this song for the AMA's, and it sounded just as good tonight on tv as it did live.

On a show where bigger seems to be better or so they say. Kid just went up there and did what he does best, lets his talent speak for him. Times like these is an incredible song, when I first came across it on youtube it made me cry. Even my kids stopped talking and watched his performance tonight. My husband looked at me with tears in his eyes. Kid Rock showed what true talent was tonight and he was AMAZING!
Awesome. After all the autotune and lip-synching performances, he went up there with just him and 2 guitars and rocked it. His voice is sounding great these days and that is a great song. Good stuff.
