Kid Rock Songs. Have a wonderful weekend everyone.
Hey all,
I was watching tv and happened to see on the guide tonight kid rock's name. It was for a new 30 minute special on CMT. Kid rock living his life and talking about his new album born free and his upcoming tour. Now to go back to 1998. I was in high school and my friend happened to get devil without a cause album very soon after it came out, months before it was playing on the radio. First time I heard it I couldn't stop listening every single track kicked major A$$. I blew out all the speakers on anything with a cd player. Fast forward to watching this show tonight. Kid rock's son wants him to listen to some songs that him and his band had recorded. The music style of his son's band is rock rap. After listening to the first songs KID says to his son "rock rap is dead", and to the effects long been dead. Being a loyal fan for all these years I can't believe those words came out of his mouth and am really wondering how or why.
I have had no issues with the evolution of his music. I have bought every CD faithfully. For him to say this I just can't believe and am just takin aback. In my opinion he is the KING of rock rap. If it is dead it is only because he would let it die. It is his roots, how can you not only turn on your roots but make the statement that they are dead. I am wondering who told him this or where he could have gotten this idea from. I have full faith in the fact that kid rock could make another rock rap album that could blow away any album he has done since devil without a cause. Ya he is getting older and matured and is doing different things but a track or two of some real kid can't hurt anything by any means. I have met kid rock after a concert before and have gone faithfully to every concert that comes to my area sometimes two in one tour. So there is more to this story that I could tell but will leave it to another time/discussion.
KID/BOB or anyone else feel free to add a comment, let me know what you think about this subject and/or the album. You can also hit me up- aim is leethedeuce@aim.com

I cant get CMT in the UK so sa sad to say that I will not be able to watch Kid rock but am sure it will be a great show
Crossing my fingers for some head banging rock too! I still hope for a little bit of rapping from kid and believe he still enjoys the rap scene of old. Thats why his always at the hip-hop honours.
I doubt that after going platinum am many times as dwac did all the fans that bought it have totally gone off that style of music.....well I know I havent!!!!
Missy's coment --- so well said!
My hope is that he is having a midlife crisis. He hasn't figured out that the old people over 70 are listening to music different than him because that is the music of their time. I am over 40 with kids from 26 to 10 and to say that 30 minutes in my car (mimivan) alone with the any Kid album ( till this past one ) is how I keep my sanity! My hope is that he realizes that being a parent sober and what ever else does not mean being a piece of manila paper. If this new style is here to stay great for him as for me I will listen to his other albums and hope for concerts that reflect his loyal fans wants and needs.
What I don't understand is all the coments about the lyrics, the old lyrics are impressive also and there are many slower songs with no cus words and they don't all sound like one long song.
Happy Holidays
please read the post...Lee all I said is alot of artists start out in different genre's ......
Hey LeeTheDeuce :) to comment on your ?...It's not the 'style', It's the composition.
The way it was lay'd down, the players, the thread, the tone. Kid 'wrote' this, Reuben just produced it. 'The Band' with KR ~ remarkable. Classic. The range of musical talent 'represented' ~ vocals, instrumentals, & genre's ~ impeccable ! And of course, the lyrics...superlative! imho ~ Have a Nice Thanksgiving :)
Haven't see/heard this done before :) And where Kid went ? !!!
Kid's vision + Rick's experience ? ... Out of The Water!
(or was it Rock's experience + Rubin's vision ...?...) :))))
Someone mentioned the same analagy "Rap is out" and proceded to give reason as to why (selfrightous B.S.) I quickley shut them down...It/it's anit/not going anywhere/nowhere!
i was a little shocked at his comment to when i first heard it. the more i thought about it, i think what he was trying to say to his son was find something that is real to you. dont just fall back and take the easy way that was paved by your old man. in the last part of the interview he did say, "in the end you gotta let em figure it out for himself". i did think he was a little hard on him though. but hey who am i to judge
Jade, I agree. I think someone mentioned it here somewhere - regardless of whether it is really dead or not it seems to be for him, at least for now.
@Kev lol.....must of blinked.
Secrets out. lol I am sure Jr, heard what his dad said yet the funny part about that is Jr, expressions when Bob/Kid talks....Like he is saying Dad you don't even know the half of it..lol That is classic teenage/parent exchange...It was nice to see I ain't the only one who gets those kinda looks :)
I think Rock wants his son to suceed and as a parent, and one that relates to their child, constuctive critism is needed. So what he said to his son and than what he said to the interview is basically what he is feeling and just where he might be going professionally with music. Anyhow it was a great thing to watch.
I don't believe Rock/Rap is dead, in fact I would like to hear more of it. I think record labels and the music industry and getting another artist's copyright blessing to use, does not help in the process of gettin themusic out there. I look forward to Em's release's s to see what Rock he is gonna add in the mix and he picks some great stuff and blends it well. I think he helps the younger generation open-mindedness on checking in on music. I mean for Recovery my kid is like is that Ozzy, I am like NO it's Black Sabbath, with Ozzy singing lol. Yet they wanted to know more, That's a cool thing.
Just some of my fast -fleeting thoughts today.
Sounds Good Hiprockricy!
you're right, my mistake. he said the word "dead" during the interview segment and said to his son something like "do you think people still listen to that stuff?"
I still think even that particular interview section was more about him wanting his son to succeed than it was about deep thoughts about the music industry. And he knew his son would see that part, too, so its still about the interaction with his son.
he has talked plenty in other interviews his concerns about making music that people listen to over the long haul and I think thats more interesting to talk about and consider than this one comment in this particular context.
When he says rock/rap is dead, it is actually in an interview portion of the show. He is talking about his interaction with his son, but not talking to his son. He was actually pretty careful about what he said in front of his son about the music. I would say it was a considered statement.
this will probably be unpopular or sound silly, but I'm not sure that rap/rock ever really existed. there was a handful of artists that identified that way, and that's gone by the wayside. Music genres have always flowed into each other and influenced each other, but you don't hear about every possible combination of genres as its own thing... you generally don't talk about "blues/rock" or "country/rock" or whatever. There are rock bands that are infused with a blues sound, country that uses rock, etc. Rock singers have used rap here and there since not long after rap showed up on the scene. Remember Blondie doing that stupid rap stuff? It isn't all that new and its still being done. Rap artists as well have always pulled all sorts of stuff into their music... one of the joys of rap.
and, frankly, people say things in passing. He was talking casually with his kid. I don't know if its worth it to pick apart everything that gets mentioned like that. music exists, people listen to it. who cares what label is slapped on it?
And call it what you will, Hiprockricy sounds awesome. I think its new and interesting and I'm looking forward to hearing more from them.
A recent interviewer stated to Kid that his "new" music sounds like it could be on a Chevy commerical and Kid says "thank you." I have been to his concerts from Vegas to Alantic City and always came away spent, but now it seems after this new shift and slower songs off of last CD i guess he is ...in his own words..."too old to kid and too soft to rock."
By the way, I think the old Kid would have told the interviewer that he'd never sell out and to get out before he meet "a fist of rage."
KevRock says (23 hours ago)
Rap-Rock is not dead. Never died. Hell, now more then ever rappers are using more rock infused beats. I think Kid Rock justifies his moving on by saying its dead, but Linkin Park is still thriving, Eminem's album was very much rock infused. If Kid decided to do a Rock-Rap Album it would sell, and would go over well,
EXACTLY what I was thinking well said Jenn W
Kev- Well said!
lol Kev, You and Player Jesus were the best part lol oh and Shakes lol Cracked me up. lol
More Importantly, Did you see me? I was on there for 1.5 seconds.

Boston- I could definitely name some "rock rap" albums. Are they kid rock rap albums no. But still very popular and basically rock rap.
PKL- and willie nelson wouldn't say blues is dead.
everyone gotta start with a genre right? willie nelson was into blues yes Slick Willie started out as a BLUES musician and went on from there...they all gotta start out somewhere..personally I think the Boy will also make it 4 fold big with alot of work and belief ;)
Here's a question, can anyone name a rap/rock album in the last few years that you've enjoyed?
....
Gotta side with Kid on this one.
GW, I think He was Dead serious only because he has said the same thing in several interviews. I completely disagree with him, I dont believe any Genre truly dies or goes away, Just maybe falls out of popularity for awhile.
Lisa, As for this album being Trendsetting, I think you will have to hear the songs live. Which Im sure will sound a little different in most cases. As my Buddies Jade and Kev say. They will lose the RUBEN FILTER....
LOL@ Missy. Agreed. I love rock/rap, I certainly hope it is not dead, but at least I have my cds.
As for being a trendsetter, I have to ask what is "new" about the Born Free Album other than being a somewhat new sound (more of an evolution of course) for him? Don't get me wrong, I like it, but it sounds like a mix of classic rock and country which has been coming out of Nashville for awhile now. Am I missing something? By all means, educate me, I do not claim to be a music genre expert.
limp bizkit fell of the map and people forgot about the sound
Somebody better let Eminem Know ASAP lmao
gorillawoman- I don't think i'm taking everything he says so serious. It's not only what he is saying but what he is doing. His actions show that he thinks rock rap is dead and that may be why he isn't doing any of it.
and to D- I dunno that this latest album is breaking any molds are uncharted area. I think this style of music has definitely been done plenty. Just maybe not by kid/bob
I thought it was funny, because his rock/rap was what got me to finally listen to rap and enjoy it, but to me it was just a typical parent type thing to say, no more than that and please people stop taking everything the man says so fucking serious!
imho, I think 'to him', it's dead. Kid Rock has always been ahead of his time. In his career, he has always 'charted a new course'. Kid frequently mentions statements to the effect of...'that's been done before,' He Thrives on 'going where no man has gone before'. He breaks the mold ...tries new things, seeks new horizons, and is a 'trend setter'. I probably missed a few, and this is just my opinion...But I must say, even the more recent country video scene changed following "All Summer Long". So...for Bob/Rock, it's dead...he's moved on.
Keep the Faith, D
I agree Lee, Theres too many of us that still love it, for it to be dead. but im guessin, hes been there , Done that and there will never be another DWAC. So he wants to move on.. I see him doing alot more bluesy Rock stuff and hopefully some Headbanging Hard rock. JMHO
