    WHAT ABOUT THE POLICE?
    J Doe says (07 Aug '10)

How do you feel about police officers in general?

Do they "protect and serve" as is their oath and duty?

Have you ever been helped by a police officer?

Have you ever been harassed by a police officer?

Have your civil rights ever been violated or defended by a police officer?

Has a police officer ever made a false statement against you for a traffic or other violation?

Has a police officer ever saved you or protected you when you were in a vulnerable situation?

Whatever your response, please be careful to not implicate yourself or someone else.

Can't wait to read your responses and stories.

Holy Moly Jade Scary shit.

in a parallel universe kinda story to Angels, several years ago I got Tboned here in the city. the guy that hit us? a drunk off duty cop.

glad your kids were ok, Angel. that's gotta be scary. Last year my sister got in a bad car accident... her car was totaled. it was the first time in many years that she had no kids in the car with her (she has 4 small kids, she's almost never without at least one child!) which was some kind of Universe luck & blessings, because the kid's car seat that was in the back seat was torn into bits... any child sitting in it would surely been killed. It freaked us all out pretty bad.

Yep, those airbags are a trip. Thank God we have them, though...think of how many lives have been saved.

kidrockangel's picture

And just in case you have never been in an accident where airbag deploys....... It goes off with Gunpowder so it immediatly smells like smoke and fire. Which convinces you the vehichle is on fire when in fact mine was not. But it raises the panic level substantially.

Several years ago when kids were little. (still in car seats) I got Tboned by napa autoparts truck. Thank God i was driving my big dually. Everyone was ok, kids didnt even drop their sippy cups. But the whole side of my truck was caved in and the air bag beat the shit outta me. I couldnt get out cause he hit me right at my door. And ofcourse I was freakin out to get to kids. The cops were there in like 2 minutes, Had the kids sitting on the grass, gave them stuffed animals. Distracted them from there hysterical mother who couldnt stop shaking and crying. They couldnt have done a better job...

scary story T, and probably not unique for around here. The sad thing is that I'm sure there are good cops here, too. and its got to be incredibly hard to be a cop here. but man, its just not worth the risk! keep your head down and try and handle your own problems here and hope you survive to get out of the city... that's been pretty much my plan!
Annie--I"m glad you're someplace good, too!

Iam You--just wanted to thank you for deciding to come back and post these interesting discussions... they've been good!

Some cities/towns have good cops and some have bad cops. I wouldn't even know where to begin to tell my story. Let's just say it's in the past where it belongs. But I am thankful for now living in a town where good cops do exist.

Jade, I've seen pictures of that second hand!!
My boyfriend at the time loved to take pics. He and a friend went to NY City on business. They were sitting in a pizza place against the window and there was some dude leaning against either a sign post or traffic light post I honestly don't remember. Anyway, they were sitting there eating pizza and my BF's view was of the man leaning against the pole. All of a sudden outta nowhere, 3 cops roll up, and start beating the hell outta this dude. Who knows why they did it, if they even had a justifiable reason, (what justifies that thou?) but they beat him bad. He took pics, good thing it was light out and he didn't need to use the flash, cause I think they wouldn't have been to happy about it, if they knew! Brood friggin daylight...Sorry to say, that always did it for me and going to Visit NY. I've never been to the city, I have been to rural NY several times years ago.

Most of my own personal encounters with law enforcement have been positive ones, except where I was in the wrong and either received a ticket or an escort to the station. And even when I was escorted, I have to say I was treated fairly. I've been fortunate so far, I just hope it remains that way!

I have much respect for cops generally. its gotta be a tough job. but I come from a city where you stay the hell away from cops for your own protection... 'nough said.

kidrockangel's picture

Oh and just for the helluva it. I could never be a cop cause I have seen many put up with a buncha shit i would never tolerate... You kick me punch me spit on me....Im gonna pull out my gun and shoot your ass. lol seriously...

kidrockangel's picture

Just to add a side note to this blog...I did a family genealogy (like a family tree, but w/detailed info on each family member's life) many years ago. To my surprise, I discovered that the vast majority of my EXTENDED family is/are state troopers, police/sheriffs, deputy sheriffs and correctional officers AND a lot of the other members of my EXTENDED family have served or are serving time in jail or prison for a variety of criminal violations. No one in my immediate family falls into either of those categories. The family members who I've know, on both sides of the line, some are bad people and some are good people. Some of the law officials have served and protected and some have exploited and abused their positions. Some of the non-law abiding family members who have or are serving time deserve to be where they are and some should not ever have been arrested in the first place. All of this is one small part of why I went to law school. Only thing I learned there, besides the mental gymnastics and analytical analysis is that the entire system has corruption woven throughout it. Laws are applied arbitrarily and legal reasoning is twisted so that a judge or a lawyer can get their desired end result, which usually has little to do with the defendant's case. And no matter what judicial rules of ethics say, all judges bring their own personal views to the bench and those personal views influence their decisions on allowable evidentiary evidence, motions back n forth and the ultimate decision made in each case. No one is truly impartial, despite an oath to be so. Sometimes that works in ones favor and sometimes it doesn't. Easier to staay outta trouble than to get outta trouble.

Glad to help, KRLO. It could not have been done without those brave cops on the inside that recognized the problems and had the courage to implement them, and that's the truth.

Citizen revolt began on the highways. People got sick of waiting in parking lots. Cops were tired off the construction delays and being road kill. They started blocking off lanes miles ahead of the construction. One day a bunch of people just got out of their cars in the searing heat and exchanged emails and phone numbers.
That was after the police stood down, and closed the construction site, opening all lanes for the first time in months.

Didn't help that the casinos were sites for abuse and overtime, and that they used students at UCONN during spring break as punching bags. People will only take so much.

This group never made the state paper or news channels. Just a bunch of folks in suits who got sick and tired of being sick and tired.

KRLO's picture

That won't happen here, our supervisor is not a very nice person, IN MY OPINION. The Sheriff of our county is running for Governor so the more law and order he is, the better for his campaign, he could care less about abuse, IN MY OPINION. This isn't a new policy here either. My son and friend were brought home by the cops for 'ding dong ditching' (ringing doorbells) when he was 11, he is 19 now, the cop that brought him home told me this was very serious crime. but he was going to give them a break, thank you mr ossifer. what an idiot, IN MY OPINION. I said to the cop 'Are you kidding they were ringing doorbells,' with my full approval, told them no soap, wax, eggs, just ring bells of people you know. They rang a bell of the worst house they could have chosen, the old fart calls the cops for everything. We've gotten our doorbell rang, and toilet papered, etc. It's annoying not cop worthy. Bluesuedeshoe, I'd love to know how CT started the grass roots effort to reform the police cuz no on here in MI seems to give a fuck, IN MY OPINION.

bluesuedeshoe's picture

There are yahoos everywhere, the problem is, they don't get reported to their supervisors for "counseling" if they get power drunk or abusive. Supervisors' don't know, because the clowns are always on their best behavior around them. Any good police supervisor will listen to you, if you are not abusive telling of the incident.

Irish here, we protect and serve. More cousins in more local police/fire departments and on the State Police than you can shake a stick at. Rode in patrol cars with all my Uncles and two were clueless jerks who endangered their entire departments while on duty. Used to like to mess with kids and the unprotected. Unforgivable, may they burn when their time comes.

But, you cannot just lay down and accept bad cops. The CT State Police took the federal grant and installed video cams in each car for a reason. This next year, they get the "wear on your shoulder" video cams. Why? Because they were jerks, and the citizenry of this state stood up and said no more. Surprisingly, once the nonsense was documented, we got some very good cops.

Power corrupts. Absolutely. Always.

KRLO's picture

Ohh hot topic, I come from a family of police so I do have respect for their job, However the local police where I am from are Yahoos. Three separate cop cars when they pull over a Mom for speeding, a tragedy 2 years ago, a Senior from our HS committed suicide 1 week before graduation, cops pulled over one of his close friends who was running late and ticketed her and also told her he could care less about why she was speeding, she was on her way to the funeral. Here they do not protect and serve, they want to ticket the citizens to save their jobs. I have a gazillion more, but won't bore anyone and they almost always involve teens. Just want to add if anyone is coming to DTE for KR's August shows, follow EVERY driving law or you will be pulled over by the County. I guarantee it, there are not 5 facts of life, there are 6, the sun rises in the east, sets in the west, we're born, we pay taxes, we die, and our county men in brown WILL pull you over.

bluesuedeshoe's picture

Yep, intriguing is the word for Will. LOL!

j doe's picture

LMAO!!! Agreed, Bluesuedeshoe! I have plenty of my own experiences/stories, both good and bad, involving police interaction. I like NOT tellin my stories in my blogs so as to not influence the flow of responses. I learned that from readin Natureboy's blogs, which are intriguing.

bluesuedeshoe's picture

My goodness, girl, you are getting downright profound. LOL!

Bad cops kill good cops. And the good cops know it.
