    Whose your NFL team?...and why?
Connie Jo says (30 May '10)

My team is the KANSAS CITY CHIEFS! This first post is intentionally long...patience please, I'm introducing my Chiefs blood, no short cuts! :)

I was 'almost' born with red & gold blood, haha. My dad (RIP) became a Chiefs fan when they moved to KC in 1963 from Dallas, formerly the Dallas Texans. I remember in grade school dad watching a rare game or two aired on TV...Chiefs were AFL, no NFL as we know it today, not many games aired on TV.

Dad began giving me red & gold blood transfusions from 1963 on, by the time I was an adult red & gold was in my veins! haha He'd be very proud, seeing how I've carried on our Chiefs family bloodline! I've passed our red & gold blood down to my own daughter & son...now passing it down to my 10 yr old grandson & 4 yr old grand-daughter.

No lie...one of the first words my grandson spoke was "TADON"!...aka 'touchdown'. He would throw his arms in the air making the the TD signal at the same time!

When Brennen, grandson, was 5...his paternal grandma, not knowing much about NFL, rivalries, etc....bought him an Oakand Raiders shirt at a garage sale! His mom, my daughter, found the shirt stuffed in the garbage can, hidden, but she noticed a sleeve. When she questioned Brennen he said he didn't want to hurt his grandma's feelings, so he accepted the shirt & later hid it in the trash thinking no one would miss it...he wasn't about to wear it, lol. He told his mom, "the Raiders are BAD, we don't like them, just ask Nana!"...Nana would be 'me'...OOPS!

I sorta remember Super Bowl I, NFL Green Bay Packers vs AFL Chiefs...Chiefs lost.
By 1970 the merger between the NFL & AFL was nearing completion. The Chiefs made it to Super Bowl IV, played the Minnesota Vikings. Chiefs were the underdog, but they WON!! Sadly, for me & my Kid Rock friend Ricky, a Vikings fan & member here at KRC too...that was the last Super Bowl appearance for either of our teams to date. I've not given up hope...thinking God will allow me to witness my Chiefs making it to another SB before I have to watch from above, haha.

Now if I don't witness a Chiefs SB prior to leaving Earth...I fully intend to ask God when I meet up with him, to toss a hail stone or two at Chiefs GM Peterson, hopefully knocking some sense into the man! haha Wait...Peterson is older than me, I 'think'...he might not be on Earth by then either, haha. Oh well...I'm not sure I have that much pull with God anyway, lol.

I hold GM Peterson mostly responsible for the Chiefs not making it to a SB since 1970! He's been the Chiefs GM for 20 yrs...lots of great potential came & went, thanks to Peterson they went. Butthole traded the best linebacker we've seen since Derrick Thomas (RIP)! The good news...at least Jared Allan went to my friend Ricky's Vikings team, haha. Vike's very likely could be SB bound as a result, yeah, JD is that good! I guess you could call it Karma, since we beat the Vikes in SB IV. Karma for JD too...since Peterson treated him badly overall. I'd like to see JD with SB Ring on hand...shake Peterson's Super Bowl-less hand, thanking him for letting him go!

So...let's hear your story of your fav NFL team? Or not...you can just tell us who your fav team is too, haha.

I'm a Cheesehead fan Connie! Born and raised in central Wisconsin....living in Texas currently due to the fact that WI is freaking COLD!! Lol! Winning or loosing...I'm a devoted fan of the Green Bay Packers! My 2 oldest daughters were also born in Green Bay! And man-they are really proud of that fact!

Nice pic of you and Bobby though! Saweet!

Buffalo Bills...why? Because my second cousin was a lineman for them in the 80's. I have an autograph football signed by the whole team...IT is awesome...has Conrad Dobler's autograph...One of the most feared men in football..MEAN as fuck!

I don't really watch football right now. But my players are/were my nephews. They quarterbacked for the DuQuoin Indians...both of them did! ONE may do college football if that is what is in his heart not mine or everyone elses. We will all just have to see is all i can say...let the knee heal and let him make up his mind....NOT US...

Well if it makes ya feel any better when I was a Kid The Mami Dolphines was my team soly becaues of the Doliphin and colors.

BB we are pissed as Lions fans, Suh has to rein in his temper. Play rough, it is football after all, just not dirty. And when he watches the tape, then come to the podium and tries to justify what he did. No Go, Lions and especially Suh need to grow into themselves.

Detroit Lions, because Oklahoma does not have an NFL team and I Love Kid Rock plus its the only NFL staduium Ive ever been to

Born-n-Raised a SF 49er Fan--
Game was on every Sunday.. My Grandma would be in the Kitchen Cooking and Talking (well cussing about everybody watching damn football) My Grandpa, Uncle and myself (and the cousins if they were over) would be in the Family room watching our niners..
at 1/2 time my Grandpa would give all the Grandkids a tractor ride down to the creek and back--

GO PACK GO! Born in Milwaukee and watched Pack sitting on my daddy's knee as a baby. Ya never change teams if born and raised in Wisconsin - I'd bet you're a Packer Fan.

Pariots...but over the years....they haven't done much.

RSMS, so much more hopeful this year, a bunch of football insiders are saying at least 8 wins possibly 10 or 11 and a playoff run. We've got Suh, Stafford needs to stay healthy, We got that great draft pick. Who knows, now they just have to settle this stupid lockout!

rocksavedmysoul's picture

My poor Lions. Keep rooting for them, through thick and thin.

RAIDERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cant get any more insane fan than a RAIDER FAN!Total New Yorker, fell in love with them when I went to a game in Oakland in 1969,was HOOKED ever since.

I go with the Buffalo Bills. Yeah i know i am midwestern and why do i like them? My second cousin was a linemen throughout the 80's #72 Ken Jones. Big ole boy in them days. Now he would be a feather weight compared to most. I have an autograph football with Conrad Dobler's signature and many other Bills great. AND it sure the fuck don't have O.J.'s signature on there. I think i would burn it if it did.

Nowadays i just pretty much watch the Super Bowl. Most times i am busy with my head buried in books for school and trying to further my education at this point. With working and school i don't really have much free time @ this time in my life. What little free time i have i devote to music, ala going to concerts, listening to it, writing lyrics when inspired in my spare time etc. Sports will come back in when i got more time. I did go see a minor league game locally and want to go see a St. Louis Cardinals game @ the new Busch Stadium. I have only been there to see the Eagles concert. Nice place from what i could see...

J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS

Why? Because many years my friends dad had season tickets. We took those tickets over. Now we have the most entertaining coach ever. Back to back championship games, knocking on that door for the first time in my life. As Bart Scott once said, CANT WAIT!

KRLO's picture

@ Constance, 2 count them 2 curses have been broken, Road game wins, and 2 in a row against good teams. Also we beat the Vikings, even though 'send pictures of my junk QB' didn't play. Also 4 in a row. I really like the path that the Lions are on, finally got rid of Millen and we are rebuilding for real. Ndamukong Suh may be up for rookie of the year, is a Pro Bowler, and the best defense player I've ever seen. Defense wins games. Love the offense also, Calvin Johnson, also a Pro Bowler didn't even play. Looking so forward to the draft and I hope they have a very smart and incredible draft.

Philadelphia Eagles! Always has been, Always will be.

Constance another Lions fan! We are probably few and far between, I finally feel really hopeful 2011 will be a really good season!! Kinda hope Favre (send pics of my junk) starts on Sunday.

Lions fan 26+ years... got hooked when I was dating someone there...kept the team but not him!

I am a Colts fan through and through!!!!!

Please don't throw shit at me!!! :O

Finally my devotion to the losing Lions is paying off. We finally have a good GM (curses to Matt Millen,) a good coach in Schwartz, these two have done well with the draft, Stafford, Suh, Johnson, now just get a decent secondary. The D is a sports town thru and thru, and we see hope in the Lions. Strange feeling!

New Orleans Saints because they "ROCK" . We as fans are very supportive through thick and thin.

I was proud of my team, & fellow fans...but, was also proud of the Giants players too, the way they reacted, had sincere appreciation & gratitude. We also passed around fireman boots that day throughout the stadium, collected thousands of dollars to send back with the Giants to help NYC.

Well, I can't 'always' plan my schedule around Chiefs games...family, local friends events, other real life stuff sometimes can't be avoided, priority. Other times not, but I don't know how to tell people 'no' if they ask for my help, even on gameday, haha.

This yr I came up with a plan to avoid that problem! I'm hosting game day get togethers every couple wks...that way if someone calls, needs my help, whatever...I can say sorry, we have company coming for the game! haha

I'll debate game plays, players, etc....but, can't tell you tons of stats on every team or players, classic plays, etc....not like Kevin & others I know can. I have many etched in my mind, but not a stat expert by any means, haha. I do better with my Chiefs memory though, haha.

I'm definitely a "crazy" Chiefs & NFL diehard fan though, no doubt about it, haha. :)

OH NO!! I hate & get upset when 'historic' teams move from their native city! Win or lose don't matter when they're still the home team in heart, ya know? haha Winning is always more fun, but...just having a team you 'feel' is priceless IMO.

Besides, I agree with Dylan...the Lions have made vast improvements in recent yrs...I see them being in playoff contention soon. Keep the faith Kaye, haha!! :)

ShadyLynn's picture

I remember seeing that on the news. Watched with a lump in my throat, haha. I didn't get to see that game, I don't remember why. You must have been so proud of your team.

Yeah, I'm a football fan. Not like you crazies though, I don't plan my schedule around the games, hahaha. I don't remember stats and argue the plays of the game. LOL Your all nuts!!!

I love pretty much all sports. NY Rangers Hockey, NY Yankees Baseball, NY Knicks Basketball, NY Saints Lacrosse. If I happen to be watching a game that NY isn't playing, I'll support the underdog.

Connie Jo_3's picture

OMG!! LOL

Did he really streak on the field, or is that pic photoshopped? hahaha

He was a goofball...you do know that, right? lol He sure did'n't follow in Elways footsteps did he, haha. No one can fill Elways shoes, I even admit that one, haha.

September 24, 2001
It was on the team bus, several hundred yards from Arrowhead Stadium, that the Giants first knew they were heading for a different kind of football afternoon.

''All these people in Chiefs jerseys turned toward our bus to give us a thumbs up or a wave or even a salute,'' wide receiver Joe Jurevicius said.

Two hours later, the Giants were waiting in the stadium tunnel that connected their locker room and the Arrowhead field.

''People started leaning over the railing, which usually isn't allowed,'' running back Tiki Barber said. ''But they wanted to hold our hands during the singing of 'God Bless America.' So we held hands.''

When the Giants were introduced, they ran toward their sideline, Chiefs Players stood in two rows on the field for the Giants to run through the middle of, each of the Chiefs players honored the Giants & America by waving the American Flag in the air as Giants players passed through them. Holding flags in the air as well, fans in Arrowhead Stadium stood and cheered as the Giants were introduced simutaneously with the Chiefs team on the field.

''This today was by no means a New York thing,'' Giants end Michael Strahan said. ''This was for everybody in the country. People everywhere were wondering how we would react, and we owed it to people everywhere to show we weren't defeated. It wasn't about winning the game so much as it was about playing with a spirit of passion and pride.''

The game that followed, played before a crowd that was noisy but respectfully muted toward the Giants, had a similar theme. A simple, even colorless game ensued, but the atmosphere throughout was commemorative. The Giants took an early lead they never relinquished in a 13-3 victory over the Chiefs. Today's game ended as it started, with more cheering from the fans who declined to see a losing side. Chiefs fans appeared to desire a Giants victory over their Chiefs team.

''The best thing the N.F.L. did was not play last wee

Oh wow!! All these yrs we've known each other Shady...I didn't realize you were a football fan! YAY!! :) Though of course did know your native city was NYC, haha.

Mike, me, our adult son & his friend...were at the Chiefs -Giants game, Arrowhead Stadium, KC...Sept. 24, 2001. That was the first Sunday of NFL games scheduled following the tragic day of Sept. 11th...they had cancelled all games the Sunday prior, due to 9-11 of course, an NFL first ever. We debated whether to go or not, we had game tickets well in advance of 9-11, but there were many speculations & rumors across America relating to terrorists attacking NFL stadiums.

We decided we wouldn't surrender our lifestyle to terrorists, regardless of speculated risk...attended the game. I'm so glad we did for many reasons, but most importantly it was a historic & memorable day that will forever be in my heart as the most memorable Chiefs game ever attended...the same for many others who were there that day, including the Giants players.

There was no pre-planning or advance organization by fans to show Patriotism, or respect & honor towards the NY Giants...related to the tragedy & tremendous loss their city had endured just 13 days prior...it just worked out that way. It was a sight to behold that literally brought tears to all in the stadium & on the field. Chiefs fans throughout the stadium pulled together to support the Giants & NYC, show our Patriotism as well. It was such a historic day...a special wall at NFL HOF in Canton, OH, was dedicated to the Chiefs-Giants game, a couple of others...displaying photographs & facts of the day.

It was bittersweet...we felt so proud of America & how us Chiefs fans unknowingly came together the way we did in support of the Giants & NYC...yet it was so sad too, so very sad. I'll never forget the lump that stayed in my throat the entire game & on into the evening after we were back home.

I'm gonna post a med

I am a Giants fan. Born and raised in NY, will always support my hometown team, regardless of where I may live now or in the future and regardless of how well they play.

I do, try really hard, to stand behind the Lions, but it is hard. I think they need to be sold.... then maybe we will get somebody that gives a damn. I don't know. Help me out here Dylan....

I like that we can talk about this though... My kids, could give a shit....hahahaha
